Seriously if your family is like mine, it is more about stuffing ourselves with turkey and dressing and every dessert known to mankind than it is about why we truly need to give thanks and not just on the holiday but all year round. I found this article by Sharon Ely Pearson. She is a 30+ year Christian formation veteran, currently serving as an editor and the Christian Formation Specialist for Church Publishing Incorporated. Why not try some of these ideas with your children this Thanksgiving season: 1. Act it Out Read the story of the ten lepers (Luke 17:11-19). Remind your children that Jesus was pleased with the one man who returned to give thanks for being healed. Provide rags for bandages and let your children play the roles of the lepers and Jesus. 2. Make Some Noise Look up the story of the Israelites celebration after the walls of Jerusalem were rebuilt (Nehemiah 12:27-46). Talk about the instruments they used and the two great choirs that marched atop the walls to the temple; a joyous, active thanksgiving that could be heard far away (Nehemiah 12:43). Put together a home grown band using real or handmade instruments. Practice joyful praise songs and march around the walls. 3. Read a Book Share a book that expresses gratitude and thankfulness. For example, consider Corrie ten Boom s book The Hiding Place, it teaches a great lesson in thankfulness. Share Corrie s story, pointing out her struggle to be thankful in all things. She even thanked God for fleas in her barracks. She later learned that the fleas kept the guards away and allowed Corrie and others to study the Bible undisturbed. 4. Create a Chain Reaction Make a God is Good chain. Gather scissors, stickers, pencils, crayons, glue and construction paper. Cut the paper in strips and ask your kids to think about the many ways God is good. Have them write or draw these attributes on the strips, then connect them to for a chain and hang it in a place where it will remind your family of God s goodness. I remember my son Ben making an answered prayer chain with is 5th Grade class at school. What a testimony to those students in a visual form to remind them that our God does answer prayer! I hope you will get creative on how you celebrate Thanksgiving this season with your family! Blessings, Todd

PAGE 5 WMU News Hello Friends! As the days become longer, it also seems that the days become busier as the holiday season approaches. Hopefully this year, we can slow down some and absorb the true meaning of the many blessings God provides for us on a daily basis. WMU members wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy being with family and friends. We surpassed out goal of 200 toothbrushes that were collected as part of the Red Box ministry. All toothbrushes will be taken to Camp Mundo Vista on Friday, November 3rd. Many thanks to everyone who supported this mission project!! Great job everyone. On November 6th, all WMU members of the JBA are invited to attend the World Day of Prayer that will be held that Monday night at Clayton First Baptist. The program starts at 7 pm. All Deacon News God Shows Up For Both Sides Of the Struggle.EVERYTIME!!! Had a long conversation with a great friend yesterday. Our discussion was about an encountered situation we both have dealt with. It is so amazing to me how the Lord works all things to our understanding and His Glory. My schedule was not designed to even see this friend on Thursday. Understand though...god showed up Thought and prayed about it yesterday...when I got up WMU members are encouraged to attend. Our Mission Emphasis for November is our Baptist Children s Home that w support. Debbie Casey will be leading this mission emphasis. The Week of Prayer will start Sunday, November 12th and will run through Sunday, November 19th. Our goal this year is $1,500.00 and the ingathering will also be on Sunday, the 19th. These homes provide a safe place for children who are taken from their home for one reason or another. The staff at these homes are nurturing, they provide structure, basic physical needs, and they demonstrate Christ s love to all the children that are housed at these homes. How blessed we are to be able and willing to help these children who are in dire need of love and support this morning.this is the verse that stood out to me The Bible says, The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9) My weak spot in life is trying to control all situations that fall in my small realm on this Earth. I am only kidding myself. We truly believe we have total control. Our blessed assurance is that Jesus came for all our concerns and long sufferings. during some of the saddest times of their young life. Thank you for your many prayers and any financial assistance you may provide. On Thursday morning, November 16th, two WMU members will be packing bags of food at Pine Level Elementary to send home with the children who may need food during the weekend. Thank you for your prayers and financial assistance as we try and help others. We could not accomplish our mission outreach projects without you! Sincerely, God be with you and bless you always. Beth Thomas WMu The concern here in the Scriptures is being changed. God s love is relentless to reach everyone. Saved and Unsaved...We must understand REPENTANCE is an ongoing CONTINUUM.
