TOGETHER WE GROW 2 Mackay Street, Nhill 3418 P: 5391 2144 F: 5391 2022 E: admin@nhillls.vic.edu.au Term 3 Week 1 Issue 20 20th July 2017 Upcoming Dates JULY Thursday 20th Year 3/4 Camp Friday 21st Wednesday 26th Thursday 27th Friday 28th Year 3/4 Camp Prep/1 Excursion to Kaniva Dental Clinic Visiting Athletics Carnival AUG Tuesday 1st P&F Meeting @ Friday 4th Friday 18th 3.30pm Hockey 7s Tournament P&F Family Movie Night From the Principal Welcome back to the start of Term 3! I hope you all had a refreshing and safe holiday. We have an exciting term ahead of us with many activities planned such as camps, excursions, Athletics Day, Book Week, Book Fair, P&F movie night, Kinder visit, and the famous Father s Day footy match! (Phew and that s not all!) We welcome two new families to our school; Jeff and Michelle, Amaya (Year 4), Eden (Year 1) and Ruby Woodward; and Chris, Nicole, Charli (Year 2) and Oscar Rethus. Please make them feel welcome to our school community. This week we also welcome Maddison Argall who is doing her Year 11 work experience with us. I would like to say a very big Thank you to all parents who were rostered on to attend our midyear school clean. It was wonderful to see so many participate as the students really appreciate having such lovely clean learning spaces. Thank you to Kathy Koop from the Parents and Friends Association for co-ordinating the clean. Over the holidays we also got new carpet in the front entrance and upgrades to our IT programs and server. On Monday, we had a visit from the ABC who interviewed students and staff about the Karen book project and the Karen community in Nhill. The documentary is going to feature in their program, Life Matters. Due to the success of our dual Karen and English books last year, our senior class are designing and writing new storybooks with the intended audience being junior school aged children. The students will also be including how to pronounce the Karen words and are currently working hard to translate the stories themselves, with assistance from our Karen teacher Tha Hser. Currently our Year 3 and 4 students are enjoying their camp to Mount Gambier. The students are participating in a variety of activities and programs including the Naracoorte Caves, Penola mansion, Petticoat Lane, Umpherston sinkhole and the Millicent Museum. All activities align with the curriculum and students will be engaged in learning that will continue back in the classroom. Our Get em going early years program starts next week and already Mrs Alana Zanker has been busy getting activities organised. The session runs from 9.30 to 11.00am on Tuesdays. In addition, our pre- Foundation classes begin next term and this transition program is offered to all of our enrolled 2018 Foundation students. Yours with Christ, Tara Pritchard

Devotional Thought Miracles in a book In his disciples presence Jesus performed many other miracles which are not written down in this book. But these have been written in order that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through your faith in him you may have life. 19 When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, Peace be with you. 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. 21 Jesus said to them again, Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you. 22 When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained. 24 But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, We have seen the Lord. But he said to them, Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe. 26 A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, Peace be with you. 27 Then he said to Thomas, Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe. 28 Thomas answered him, My Lord and my God! 29 Jesus said to him, Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe. 30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. 31 But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name. I think I would have preferred to see the actual miracles. It would have been something to watch Jesus walk on water. Or be there when the water turned into wine. This term our chapel offerings will be sent in support to our orphanage school in Myanmar. Chapel will be held at 9am in the Multi Purpose Room. We invite parents and friends to join us for morning tea. Please see below for this week s church services times. Nhill: 9am Woorak: 9am Jeparit: 11am Church Office: 5391 1223 Each week we pray for someone in our School Community. This week we pray for.. Or see the joy on the faces of lame people who walked and dumb people who spoke. Or listen to the storm suddenly go quiet. Or witness a dead little girl come back to life. Then there s the greatest miracle of all: the agony of Jesus suffering and death transformed into the ecstasy of his return to life. How inspirational it would have been actually to be there. If I had seen these things with my own eyes, how much easier it would be to believe in him. Instead, I am left with a book, and miracles in a book. The thing I find puzzling is that, as I read that book, I somehow get caught up in its stories and wonders. And another miracle happens. I find I do believe! Crazy, isn t it? No, wonderful! Thank you, Holy Spirit, for the miracle of the Word, made living flesh for me. Amen. Chapel Offering Chapel Worship News Prayer of the Week Sidney Marshman and his family
