Introducing Today s Sermon Ecclesiastes 10: How to Waste Your Life A little foolishness goes a long way! Solomon has spent a great deal of time and print speaking of the value and advantages of wisdom. A man s wisdom maketh his face to shine... (8:1)....Wisdom is better than strength... (9:16). Wisdom is better than weapons of war... (9:18). To drive home his point, he moves to the other side of the ledger. Folly, fool, fool s, fools, foolish, and foolishness are mentioned over thirty times in Ecclesiastes, and nine of those thirty are found in chapter ten! We all know what the characteristics of the wise man are; now a vivid picture of the idiot, the silly, the stupid is painted for us. It is not difficult for me to see myself! Look familiar? Example: A fool also is full of words: a man cannot tell what shall be; and what shall be after him, who can tell him? or in other words, you never know what is coming out next! 6 10:30 A.M. MISSIONARY MINUTE Here are some Highlights from this week s missionary. Read it. It will take you a minute. By Mike Ireland I pray that God s blessings are on your life and that your walk with Him is strong and faithful. We again marvel at how God has blessed us thorough your faithful support. Your prayers have held us together through this trying time and have been a true comfort to us. We love you and give glory to our Savior Jesus Christ for such a wonderful family like you. Updates on things in Ukraine: The churches are safe, as God has been merciful to them during this time of upheaval. Though it has been hard for them to watch their country being torn apart, they have remained faithful to God. Let me give a little history of what has taken place. Since the time that Ukraine gained its independence from the USSR, it has been buried in corruption. From the traffic police on the street, right up through most judges and politicians, everyone seemed to be on the take. It was a known fact that in order to get anything done, you have to pay a bribe. There was such a gap between the rich and the regular people, and the only way to get ahead seemed to be the dishonest way. The people finally had their fill, and thus started the demonstrations in the street. Most of the headlines in the West s media seemed to think the reason for the revolt was the difference of turning toward the EU or Russia. This in fact had little to do with it. The heat really turned up on the demonstrations when the government tried to strong arm the opposition. People came out in droves to stand together and say, Enough is enough. Vladimir Putin seemed to think that this was the time to claim Crimea as his own. Of course in a country that is poor and ridden with corruption, one of the things that suffers is the military. Ukraine is in no shape to face off Russia. However, they are calling up all able bodied men to defend Ukraine from invasion. This basically means all but two of our men from our churches will be recruited. If Putin invades Ukraine, the doors for mission work will be closed the same way they are in Russia. We have been in contact with the leaders of the churches, and they seem determined to be about the Father s business. Pasha has also done a great job at keeping the Fostive church focused on the Cross. Please continue to pray for the Christians in Ukraine, and pray that the Gospel continues to go forth. Update on Robin: First we want to thank you for all the prayer support on Robin s behalf. We know God has strengthened her via the prayers of our brothers and sisters. Her health seems to be improving day by day. She is working on building up her strength, and was even able to attend church. The surgery the doctors did on her eye was a success in the fact they were able to clean out the blood to actually see what happened. Until now they were not able to get a clear view into the back of her eye, and were guessing at what exactly happened. They told her there is absolutely no chance for her to get the sight back in the left eye. But, praise the Lord, her right eye is healthy, she just needs to continue to adjust to seeing with only one eye. The goal now is to get her off the steroids without having any reaction in her joints. They are still exploring some possibilities of how to do that. She has been on steroids for a year now, and she is starting to suffer too many side effects from them. Our goal is to return to Ukraine in the fall, as long as the doctors give us the go ahead. I am planning a trip in the spring to visit the churches if Robin s health would allow it. We also will need to start the visa application all over again. But, God has proven to be continually faithful, and we trust Him with this too! Prayer requests: Leaders of the churches: Pasha, Greecia, Edik, Valentine, Yura, Maxim, Sasha. Protection of Ukraine against Russia. That the Ukrainians would stay open to the Gospel, and for peaceful elections in May. Robin s continued recovery. Kayla as she finishes up high school and prepares for college. Our son Michael as he prepares to graduate from Bible Institute, and get married. Pray for God s direction. Your Missionaries, The Irelands
