The Order of Worship The Prelude The Processional Hymn--------------------Holy, Holy, Holy--------------------CMEH #2 Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty! Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee; Holy, Holy, Holy! Merciful and Mighty! God in Three persons, blessed Trinity! Holy, Holy, Holy! All the saints adore Thee, Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea; Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee, Which wert and art and evermore shalt be. Holy, Holy, Holy! Tho the darkness hide Thee, Tho the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see, Only thou art holy; there is none beside thee, Perfect in pow r, in love and purity. Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty! All Thy works shall praise Thy name in earth and sky and sea; Holy, Holy, Holy! Merciful and mighty! God in Three persons, blessed Trinity! The Processional-------------------------------------------------------Clergy, Choir, Officers The Invocation-----------------------------------------------------Reverend Mitchell Modest The Call to Worship---------------------------------------------Reverend Mitchell Modest Leader: O come let us praise the Lord. People: The Lord is worthy to be praised. Leader: Let us sing unto the Lord. All: We will lift our voices in songs of Praise. For the Lord is good; Gods mercy is everlasting; and God s truth endureth to all generations. Let us praise the Lord! The Hymn of Praise-------------O for a Thousand Tongues--------------CMEH #17 O for a thousand tongues to sing My great Redeemer's praise, The glories of my God and King, The triumphs of His grace. My gracious Master and my God, Assist me to proclaim, To spread thru all the earth abroad The honors of thy name. Jesus! the name that charms our fears, That bids our sorrows cease, 'Tis music in the sinner's ears, 'Tis life, and health, and peace. He breaks the pow r of canceled sin, He sets the pris ner free, His blood can make the foulest clean His blood availed for me. Hear Him, ye deaf; His praise, ye dumb, Your loosened tongues employ; Ye blind, behold your Savior come; And leap, ye lame, for joy. Glory to God and praise and love Be ever, ever giv n By saints below and saints above The Church in earth and heav n.
The Modern Affirmation of Faith Leader: Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is the one true Church, apostolic and universal, whose holy faith let us now declare. All: We believe in God, the Father, infinite in wisdom, power and love, whose mercy is over all his works, and whose will is ever directed to his children s good. We believe in Jesus Christ, Son of God and Son of man, the gift of the Father s unfailing grace, the ground of our hope, and the promise of our deliverance from sin and death. We believe in the Holy Spirit as the divine presence in our lives, whereby we are kept in perpetual remembrance of the truth of Christ, and find strength and health in time of need. We believe that this faith should manifest itself in the service of love as set forth in the example of our blessed Lord, to the end that the kingdom of God may come upon the earth. Amen. The Ministry of Music-----------------------------------------------------The Temple Voices The Prayer of General Confession (Clergy and Congregation) Almighty God, Father of our Lord, Jesus Christ, Maker of all things, Judge of all people, we acknowledge and bewail our manifold sins and wickedness, which we from time to time most grievously have committed, by thought, word and deed, against Thy Divine Majesty, provoking most justly Thy wrath and indignation against us. We do earnestly repent, and are heartily sorry for these our misdoings; the remembrance of them is grievous unto us, have mercy upon us, have mercy upon us, most merciful Father; for Thy Son our Lord, Jesus Christ s sake, forgive us all that is past, and grant that we may hereafter serve and please Thee in the newness of life, to the honor and glory of Thy name, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen The Prayer of Absolution (Clergy) O Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, who of Thy great mercy has promised forgiveness of sins to all them that with hearty repentance and true faith turn to Thee; have mercy upon us; pardon and deliver us from all sins, confirm and strengthen us in all goodness, and bring us to everlasting life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen The Collect (Clergy and Congregation) Almighty God, unto whom all hearts be open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid; cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love Thee, and worthily magnify Thy Holy name, through Christ our Lord. Amen. The Sanctus Clergy: It is very meet, right, and our bounden duty, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto thee, O Lord, Holy Father, Almighty, Everlasting God! Clergy and Congregation Therefore, with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we laud and magnify thy glorious name, evermore praising thee, and saying, Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God of hosts, heaven and earth are full of Thy glory. Glory be to Thee, O Lord, Most High. Amen.
The Ministry of Music-----------------------------------------------------The Temple Voices The Old Testament Reading--------------Isaiah 53--------------Reverend Mitchell Modest The Gloria Patri Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen. The New Testament Reading-----------Luke 24:36-49----------Reverend Mitchell Modest The Steward Appeal The Ministry of Giving (Tithes, Offerings, Benevolent Offering) The Offertory Response "All things come of Thee, O Lord; And of Thine own have we given Thee. Amen." The Pastoral Concerns----------------------------------Reverend Denise Anders-Modest The Announcements The Introduction and Greeting of Visiting Worshippers The Preparatory Hymn---------------There Is a Fountain----------------CMEH #84 There is a fountain filled with blood Drawn from Immanuel's veins, And sinners plunged beneath that flood Lose all their guilty stains: Lose all their guilty stains, Lose all their guilty stains; And sinners plunged beneath that flood Lose all their guilty stains. The dying thief rejoiced to see That fountain in his day, And there may I, though vile as he, Wash all my sins away: Wash all my sins away, Wash all my sins away; And there may I, though vile as he, Wash all my sins away. Dear dying Lamb, Thy precious blood Shall never lose its pow r, Till all the ransomed Church of God Be saved, to sin no more: Be saved to sin no more, Be saved, to sin no more; Till all the ransomed Church of God Be saved, to sin no more. E'er since by faith I saw the stream Thy flowing wounds supply, Redeeming love has been my theme And shall be till I die: And shall be till I die, And shall be till I die; Redeeming love has been my theme And shall be till I die. When this poor lisping, stamm ring tongue Lies silent in the grave, Then in a nobler, sweeter song, I ll sing Thy pow r to save: I ll sing Thy pow r to save, I ll sing Thy pow r to save; Then in a nobler, sweeter song, I ll sing Thy pow r to save. The Communion Hymns The Peace Celebrant: The peace of Christ be with you. People: And also with you. The Great Thanksgiving Celebrant: People: Celebrant: People: Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give him thanks and praise. The Prayer of Humble Access (Celebrant) We do not presume to come to this thy table, O merciful Lord trusting in our own righteousness, but in Thy manifold and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under Thy table. But thou art the same Lord, whose property is always to have mercy; grant us, therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of Thy dear Son Jesus Christ and to drink His blood, that our sinful souls and bodies may be made clean by His death and washed through His most precious blood and that we may evermore dwell in Him and He in us. Amen The Prayer of Consecration (Celebrant) Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, who of Thy tender mercy didst give Thine only Son Jesus Christ to suffer death upon the cross for our redemption, who made there (by oblation of Himself once offered) a full, perfect, and sufficient sacrifice, oblation, and satisfaction for the sins of the whole world; and did institute, and in His Holy Gospel commanded us to continue, a perpetual memory of that His precious death until His coming again; hear us, O merciful Father, we most humbly beseech Thee, and grant that we, receiving these Thy creatures of bread and wine, according to Thy Son our Saviour Jesus Christ s holy institution, in remembrance of His death and passion, may be partakers of His most blessed body and blood; who in the same night that He was betrayed, took bread; and when He had given thanks, He brake it, and gave it to His disciples, saying, Take, eat; this is My body which is given for you: do this in remembrance of Me. Likewise after supper He took the cup; and when He had given thanks, He gave it to them saying, Drink ye all of this; for this is My blood of the New Testament, which is shed for you and for many, for the remission of sins, do this as oft as ye shall drink it, in remembrance of Me. Amen. (Ministers Will Commune) The Lord s Prayer Our Father which art in heaven. Hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses; As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. (The People Will Commune)
The Invitation (Celebrant) Ye that do truly and earnestly repent of your sins and are in love and charity with you neighbors, and intend to lead a new life, following the commandments of God and walking from henceforth in his holy ways, draw near with faith, and take this Holy Sacrament to your comfort, and make your humble confession to Almighty God, meekly kneeling upon your knees. Delivereth the Bread The body of the Lord Jesus Christ was given for thee, preserve thy soul and body unto everlasting life. Take and eat this in remembrance that Christ died for thee, and feed on Him in thy heart by faith with thanksgiving. Delivereth the Cup The blood of our Lord Jesus Christ which was shed for thee, preserve thy soul and body unto everlasting life. Drink this in remembrance that Christ's blood was shed for thee, and be thankful. The Prayer of Acceptance (Celebrant) O Lord and Heavenly Father, we Thy humble servants desire Thy Fatherly goodness, Mercifully to accept this our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, most humbly beseeching Thee to grant, that by the merits and death of Thy Son Jesus Christ, and through faith in His blood, we and Thy whole Church may obtain remission of our sins. And here we offer and present unto Thee, O Lord, ourselves, our souls and bodies, to be a reasonable, holy and lively sacrifice unto Thee; humbly beseeching Thee that all we who are partakers of this Holy Communion may be filled with Thy grace and heavenly benediction. And although we be unworthy, through our manifold sins, to offer unto Thee any sacrifice, yet we beseech Thee to accept this our bounden duty and service not weighing our merits, but pardoning our offenses, through Jesus Christ our Lord; by whom, and with whom, in the unity of the Holy Ghost all honor and glory be unto Thee, O Father, world without end. Amen The Gloria In Excelsis Glory be to God on high, and on earth peace, goodwill toward all persons. We praise Thee, we bless Thee, we worship Thee, we glorify Thee, we give thanks to Thee for Thy great glory, O Lord, God, Heavenly King, God the Father Almighty. O Lord, the only begotten Son, Jesus Christ; O Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, that takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us. Thou that takest away the sins of the world receive our prayer. Thou that sittest at the right hand of God, the Father, have mercy on us. For Thou only art Holy, Thou only art the Lord. Thou only, O Christ, with the Holy Ghost, art Most High in the glory of God the Father.
