(VERSE 3) Holy, holy, holy! Though the darkness hide thee,
though the eye of sinful flesh thy glory may not see; only thou art holy; there is none beside thee, perfect in power in love and purity. (VERSE 4) Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! CHILDREN S MESSAGE Call to Confession Let us confess our sins to the Lord of all, who is generous to all who call upon him. Judy Potter Prayer of Confession Lord Jesus, we call upon you. Save us! We are intimidated by our circumstances,
distracted from your purposes, drowning in doubts and fears. We are presumptuous about your will, belittling others and magnifying ourselves. We envy the blessings of others, secretly despising their dreams. We have hardened our hearts to the suffering of our brothers and sisters, feeding ourselves in face of the injustice that holds them captive. [Silent Prayer] Declaration of Forgiveness Our God sees all, knows all, forgives all, restores all through our Lord Jesus Christ. No one who believes in him will be put to shame, for everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. from Feasting on the Word Worship Companion. 2015 SONG OF WORSHIP: I WILL SING OF MY REDEEMER (Hymn #492) PLEASE REMAIN SEATED I will sing of my Redeemer and his wondrous love to me; on the cruel cross he suffered from the curse to set me free. Mozart READING OF THE SCRIPTURES Mark 6:45-56 (NIV) Jesus Walks on the Water
45 Immediately Jesus made his disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to Bethsaida, while he dismissed the crowd. 46 After leaving them, he went up on a mountainside to pray. 47 Later that night, the boat was in the middle of the lake, and he was alone on land. 48 He saw the disciples straining at the oars, because the wind was against them. Shortly before dawn he went out to them, walking on the lake. He was about to pass by them, 49 but when they saw him walking on the lake, they thought he was a ghost. They cried out, 50 because they all saw him and were terrified. Immediately he spoke to them and said, Take courage! It is I. Don t be afraid. 51 Then he climbed into the boat with them, and the wind died down. They were completely amazed, 52 for they had not understood about the loaves; their hearts were hardened. 53 When they had crossed over, they landed at Gennesaret and anchored there. 54 As soon as they got out of the boat, people recognized Jesus. 55 They ran throughout that whole region and carried the sick on mats to wherever they heard he was. 56 And wherever he went into villages, towns or countryside they placed the sick in the marketplaces. They begged him to let them touch even the edge of his cloak, and all who touched it were healed. MESSAGE Seeing Jesus in The Dark *SONG OF WORSHIP: A MIGHTY FORTRESS IS OUR GOD (Hymn #43) (VERSE 1) A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing; our helper he, amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing.
For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe; his craft and power are great, and, armed with cruel hate, on earth is not his equal. (VERSE 2) Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing, were not the right man on our side, the man of God s own choosing. Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is he; Lord Sabaoth his name, from age to age the same, and he must win the battle. (VERSE 3) And though this world, with devils filled, should threaten to undo us, we will not fear, for God hath willed his truth to triumph through us. The Prince of Darkness grim, we tremble not for him; his rage we can endure, for lo, his doom is sure; one little word shall fell him. (VERSE 4) That word above all earthly powers, no thanks to them abideth; the Spirit and the gifts are ours thro him who with us sideth. Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also; the body they may kill: God s truth abideth still; his kingdom is forever. BENEDICTION POSTLUDE Lead On, O King Eternal Organ On the tune by Henry Smart Elder Galen Miller is available for prayer after the service. In the pulpit today: (M. Div.) was raised in a Christian church but exchanged his childhood faith for trust in science alone during his teen years and became an agnostic. While studying Education at the University of Idaho, he met
an Idaho farm girl who is responsible for exposing him to evangelical Bible study and prayer. This led to his conversion and marriage to Patty. (Praise our gracious God for both events!) Charlie taught school, then attended Denver seminary, and served as pastor of three community Bible churches over the last thirty years. Recently retired, he enjoys speaking, writing, and gardening.
