The Grapevine New Covenant United Methodist Church June 2013 Blood Drive Only 3% do. Will you? Every two seconds someone in the US needs blood and more than 38,000 blood donations are needed every day. Whether it is a child with leukemia, a mother with sickle cell disease or a cancer patient undergoing chemotherapy, blood is essential to save lives. A blood drive will be held on Saturday, June 1, from 9:00 am to 1:30 pm in the Family Life Center. Please consider donating or inviting someone to c o m e d o n a t e. You can sign-up today at http://www.redcross blood.org or contact Jason Matzke or Robin Lanham. Corner Pastor s THOUGHTS OF THE PASTOR Summertime, And the livin' is easy Fish are jumpin' And the cotton is high. - George Gershwin I think of those words from the musical Porgy and Bess as I write words for our June church newsletter. June will bring graduation for our high school seniors. School days will give way to care-free days for students as the school bell grows silent. The beaches and the Blue Ridge Parkway will be a little more crowded this summer and the seats in Sunday worship will be a little less crowded as people take vacation. Summertime is probably the time of the year when more people take time for vacation. While some pastors might use this space this time of year to remind you that God never takes a vacation, I want to point out that God commands us to take vacation. In Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5, we find the Ten Commandments. Read again Exodus 20:8-11 where we find: 8-11 Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Work six days and do everything you need to do. But the seventh day is a Sabbath to GOD, your God. Don't do any work not you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your servant, nor your maid, nor your animals, not even the foreign guest visiting in your town. For in six days GOD made Heaven, Earth, and Sea, and everything in them; he rested on the seventh day. Therefore GOD blessed the Sabbath day; he set it apart as a holy day. (THE MESSAGE) Vacation at its best is not necessarily a trip to the coast or the mountains. No, vacation at its best is rest and Sabbath time. God does not merely suggest that humans take time to rest. No, God thought rest and Sabbath time was so important that he commands it. Whatever direction you travel this summer, I hope that it leads to a time and place to rest whether that rest is found in a faraway locale or in the comfort of your own home. Take time to rest, and be still and know that God is God. God bless. Pastor Randy Wall

Praise the Lord with all my soul!!!! What a wonderful month May has been. If you missed Youth Sunday, you missed a true blessing. I couldn't have been more proud and I must say, speechless as to what a great job was done by each of our Youth. We all see their efforts on Youth Sunday, but I want to let you know how they get to that Sunday. They began about a month in advance by us leaders putting them at a table and saying, "Youth Sunday is coming up, it is all yours." From there, they all wrote down a theme and then drew from a hat the theme they would use. We left them alone for the most part. I truly didn't see it all until Youth Sunday. The most beautiful part was seeing Jesus in all of them as they prepared. Here were a group of teenagers working together to serve the Lord. There was no arguing, no disagreements, no bickering or jealousy, only loving one another and wanting to worship for God. It is in those times that I thank God for Him working in and with them. As for June, we have a few exciting events coming up. On June 9th, we will welcome all our rising 6th graders to the Youth Group. Then on June 15th, the youth are beginning a new ministry. They agreed to host a dance for High School and Adults with Mental and Physical Disabilities. This is another event that also made me very proud, for the youth had a choice on this date to either go to Carowinds and see Skillet or put on the dance. With no hesitation, the Youth agreed to host the dance. We will be needing adult help for the dance. If you are interested in assisting with the dance, please contact me or one of our Youth. The Youth will be doing a lot of the set up and helping, but we also want them to enjoy dancing and talking with our special guests. As for Carowinds, we will be taking an outing in June for a day of fun. God Bless and thank you for all the love, prayers and support for our Youth Group and leaders. Love in Christ, Todd Guest Friends of New Covenant, thank you for your continued stewardship in the giving of your titles and offerings. Since the February 17th Sunday, when our services were cancelled and no offering was received, we have been running a little behind in our budget. Please prayerfully consider making up for the week we missed and help us stay on track. Thank you! New Covenant UMC Finance Committee William T.
