Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church January 2011 Volume VII, Issue 1 Words From the Pastor Unity By Way of the Cross of Christ Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I greet you in this blessed New Year with a renewed commitment to evangelism (leading the lost to Christ), teaching (edi ication/building a solid spiritual foundation for new Christians), and mentoring (nurturing through discipleship training, so that those mentored can become strong witnesses for Christ). It is with much gratefulness to our God that we are introducing our new mid week spiritual formation series S.E.E.D. (Spiritual Elements Essential for Discipleship). Implementing this new study will greatly enhance our present discipleship model (see below) as we continue to become the local Church that God has called us to be. BECAUSE OF CALVARY ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE! This year Union Chapel will experience God in a better way! Your Servant Leader, O. Wendell Davis

Remember Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. What s Important Local Events Celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr On February 4, 1968, exactly two months before Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated, he delivered his last sermon at Atlanta s Ebenezer Baptist Church. In it, he described his preferences for his own funeral. He didn t want people to mention his Nobel Peace Prize, his other awards or where he went to school; none of that was important, he said. Instead, he wanted his eulogist to say King tried to give his life serving others and tried to love somebody. In that sermon, King also said everybody can serve, regardless of background or educational level. The only requirements, he said, were a heart full of grace and a soul generated by love.
