Syllabus, CBT II Page 2 I. COURSE DESCRIPTION: Prerequisite: BI 105. This course is a continuation of the chronological method. Thematic reinforcement, beginning in Genesis, leads to clear understanding of God s complete provision in salvation through the Lord Jesus Christ, and presents the ministry of the Holy Spirit in preparation for teaching the permanent indwelling of the Holy Spirit as presented in the Book of Acts. Foundations of doctrine in Romans and Ephesians are the next stage of the story of God, opening new believers understanding for teaching the remainder of the New Testament. Case studies will be used to demonstrate how teaching the Bible chronologically has proven to bring people to genuine faith in Christ, mature discipleship, and fruitful Christian service. II. RATIONALE: A. Biblical: 1. Students will strengthen their appreciation of God s grace and His complete provision for them in the Lord Jesus Christ; 2. Students will be provided with an overview of the book of Acts, giving them a historical and geographical background for other books of the New Testament. 1. Students will be provided with an understanding of the Apostle Paul s letter to the church in Rome and in Ephesus and to learn hoe the truths of these New Testament books can be applied in practical ways to their everyday lives. B. Philosophical 1. Students will be able to recognize that the CBT method proves the sufficiency and singular eternality of God s salvation through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. 2. Students will more greatly recognize that the CBT method is a model that may be used by indigenous church leaders among their own people. III. PREREQUISITES: BI 105 Chronological Bible Teaching I IV. TEXTBOOKS: A. The Bible (King James Version). B. McIlwain, Trevor. Firm Foundations, Secure in Christ; Growing in Christ: Acts; Growing in Christ: Romans; Growing in Christ; Ephesians V. COURSE REQUIREMENTS: A. Academic regulations: Students will read text from the KJV Bible as well as other supporting text as assigned by the instructor. 1. Students will memorize sixteen (8) verses for over the course of the semester pursuant to the course outline. a. KJV is the only acceptable format.

Syllabus, CBT I Page 3 b. Grading criteria for memory verses consists of word accuracy and order, and reference. c. Students are allowed five (5) mistakes before the entire verse is counted wrong. Each mistakes causes for a five (5) point deduction. f. Verses will be on exams. 2. Students will take notes relative to daily class lecture and discussion. 3. Students will maintain a class notebook that will contain points of emphasis as directed by the instructor. Student notebooks will be graded and weighted pursuant to course outline. 4. Students will write a term paper on one of the following topics as it the chronological method (Security in Christ, Acts, Romans, Ephesians) a. The body of the term paper will contain a minimum of six pages. b. BSWE Research Paper Guidelines will be followed regarding form c. The bibliography will contain a minimum of six (6) resources. d. Students must submit their topic to the instructor for approval pursuant to the course outline. f. Term papers must contain a thesis. g. Bible verses and references may not be footnoted; rather these references must be contained in the body of the body of the paper(e.g., Paul said it this way, For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain Philippians 1:21). h. Plagiarism is strictly prohibited. 5. Students will be given assigned reading pursuant to the course outline. 6. Students will take quizzes from reading, lectures, and discussions pursuant to the course outline. 7. Students will take tests from reading, lectures, and discussions pursuant to the course outline. 8. Students must turn in all work either early or on-time. No assignments (e.g., papers, projects, and reading assignments) will be accepted late (i.e., Late equals a grade of 0. ). B. Attendance Policies 1. A maximum of six (6) absences will be allowed for any reason with the exception of administrative absences. Any student missing more than six (6) classes will fail. 2. If a student is more than ten (10) minutes late to a class or leaves more than ten (10) minutes early, he/she may be counted absent. 3. Three (3) tardies will constitute an absence and will detract from the total allowable absences. C. Test Make-up Policies: 1. Make-up quizzes will only be permitted if the absence is excusable (sickness, death in the family, jury duty, reasonable emergency, etc.) 2. A written note or e-mail must be given to the teacher immediately upon returning after an absence stating the reason causing the absence.

Syllabus, CBT I Page 4 3. All make-up quizzes must be scheduled the day of returning to class and completed within one (1) week of the absence. 4. Major assessments (e.g., mid-term or final exams) can be made-up if the absence results from extenuating circumstances which are approved by the instructor. VI. COURSE OBJECTIVES: A. Cognitive 1. Memory verses, classroom discussion and daily question and answer will support student interpretation and comprehension. 2. Formal assessments, and term paper will further substantiate comprehension as well as information retention. A. Affective 1. Students will be able to develop a desire to search the Scriptures each day for discernment and application. 2. Students will be able to develop an understanding that eternal security is confirmed by a true knowledge of God. B. Experiential 1. Students will be able to reference God s Word to validate doctrinal beleifs. VII. COURSE METHODOLOGY: A. Lecture and discussion. B. Question and answer, survey. C. Discovery, oral, and written D. The total points possible and the total points earned will be used to determine the numeric average. Grades will be calculated from the following components: 1. Quizzes and Notebook Checks 10% 2. Memory Verse Quizzes 10% 3. Notebooks 20% (college students must be typed) 4. Midterm and Final Exams (2 @ 20% each) 40% 5. Term Paper (1) 20% B.
