The Second Lesson I Corinthians 10:12-13 12 So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don t fall! 13 No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
The Gospel - John 15:5-9 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. 9 As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM FOR AARON CAMPBELL TALBOTT, SON OF JACOB & JENNIFER TALBOTT Dear Friends in Christ, In Matthew's Gospel, Jesus commands us to make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. In the waters of Baptism, we are joined to the death and resurrection of our Lord and made members of the Body of Christ. Living in fellowship with Him and His people, we grow in faith, love and obedience to the will of God. The Gospel of Mark tells us that once some people brought children to Jesus for Him to touch them, but the disciples scolded those people. When Jesus noticed it, He was angry and said to the disciples, "Let the children come to Me and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the Kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." Then He took the children in his arms, placed His hands on them and blessed them. Jake and Jenni, you have presented Aaron for Holy Baptism. By doing so, you are accepting the responsibility of raising him in the Christian faith. Before God and this congregation I ask you then, do you promise to faithfully bring him to worship, read Scripture and pray together, teach him the Ten Commandments, the Creed, and the Lord's Prayer, and help him grow in Christian faith? If so, answer: "We will with the help of God." You who are sponsors of this child are to be witnesses of his baptism. You are also to remember him in your prayers and encourage him as he grows in Christian faith. If this is your intention, please answer: "We will with the help of God." Dear Congregation, Are you as Christ's community, ready to support these persons in their duties as parents and sponsors and to remember Aaron in your prayers? If so, answer: We are. (Please stand for the confession of faith.) Pastor: I address you now as parents, sponsors, and congregation. Do you renounce all the forces of evil, the devil, and all his empty promises? Congregation: We do. P: Do you believe in God the Father? C: I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. P: Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God? C: I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended into hell. On the third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. P: Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit? C: I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. Let us pray: God, the giver of all life, look with kindness upon Aaron s father and mother. Make them teachers and examples of righteousness for their children. Strengthen them in their own commitment so that they may live out the salvation you have given them, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Aaron Campbell Talbott, I baptize you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Receive the sign of the cross, on your head and on your heart, as a sign that you will know the Lord, the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his suffering. Let your light so shine before others that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven. Let us pray: Almighty and merciful God and Father, we give you thanks for freeing your sons and daughters from the power of sin and for raising them up to a new life through water and your Word. Pour out your Holy Spirit upon Aaron. Defend and keep him in your grace, that he may never depart from you, but may always live according to your will, finally receiving the fullness of your promise in your eternal kingdom, through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord. Amen. Pastor: This congregation has a new son in Christ. Congregation: We welcome Aaron into the Lord s family. We receive him as a fellow member of the body of Christ, a child of the same heavenly Father, and a worker with us in the Kingdom of God. Pastor: The blessing of almighty God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit be with you all. Peace be with you. Amen.
