On one hand believers have the promise of redemption, and on the other lies the reality of indwelling sin. The church, just like any other family or group of people, has its problems, but Jesus loves His church despite all the messes! MESSY CHURCH is study of Paul s letters to a church that was a total mess the church in Corinth. In 1 Corinthians, the Apostle Paul charges the church at Corinth to remember that though God has shown grace in their lives, their brokenness and continual need for redemption is real and ever-present. Many of the issues the Corinthian church faced are issues that our church must address as well: lack of unity within the church, elevation of personal agendas, and the failure to remember our common identity in Christ. This series seeks to address some of the main obstacles we face as a church as we try to move toward maturity both individually and corporately. CHURCH PLANTING UPDATE COMMON TABLE CHURCH SEATTLE, WA We are really looking forward to spending some time with you at the end of April. Even though we have not personally met, the ministry of Bridges and your partnership with Common Table has been vital to the work here in downtown Seattle. It would not be an exaggeration to say that without you, we would not be able to live the reality of God s grace and the hope of the gospel within one of the fastest growing neighborhoods in the country. A Message From Dan and Joanie Jacobs Common Table Church, Seattle WA It will be such an honor to be able to share some of the amazing, challenging, joyous, frustrating, humorous, and heartbreaking stories that we, along with you because of your partnership, have been written into in just a few short years. When we are with you on the 24th, please take the opportunity to introduce yourselves to us. We are certainly grateful for the church, but the church is its people and we d love to be able to personally connect with as many friends as we can in the short time that we are with you. Please continue to pray for the Children s Ministry and the decisions the kids are making as they hear the story of Jesus. Believe it or not, summer is not far away. Some of you may be planning vacations in the sun and much needed getaways. While you are planning, please put a few dates on your calendar. WinShape is July 4-8, held here at Bridges, for kids who have completed 1st-9th grade. (See additional info on page 3) Also, I will be co-dean at Howell s Mill Camp for their Elementary 2 week which is July 17-22. This week of camp is for kids going into 2nd-5th grade. Speaking of Howell s Mill, we will be collecting Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Lucky Charms cereal throughout the month of April to help feed the kids attending camp this summer. We will have boxes in the lobby so you can drop cereal off at your leisure. Thank you in advance for your support of this wonderful camp.
Hello, First Look Friends! Love God. Love People. It s the greatest commandment in a nutshell. Your actions should show others that you love God and love people. As children get older, they come to realize that by APRIL 2016 loving others and serving them, they ARE loving God. And, they are sharing His love with those around them. It s been a fantastic development to watch, and it s one we pray will happen in every preschooler we touch with this month s curriculum. We ended March with Easter Sunday and we begin April with learning about the early church. Our preschoolers will learn that the early church wasn t about a building, but about a group of people meeting together to worship and share life with one another. They will learn that they can be just like those people in the early church. They can share and help each other and worship God together. Children will decorate bags to go home during week two with a parent note asking them to be returned with food on week four. Food pantries are notoriously low on supplies in the spring and need help as they gear up for the high needs of summer when children are out of school. MEMORY VERSE: Love the Lord your God with all your heart... Love your neighbor as yourself. Matthew 22:37-39, NIV The theme for April is, My Neighborhood, because we are to love our neighbor. Preschoolers are already learning about neighborhoods both at school and through their picture books at home. Throughout the unit, we will emphasize that we are to love each and every neighbor in our neighborhood as we talk about who those people might be. Because we are learning to love our neighbors this month, we have incorporated a food drive into the curriculum. April Food Drive On April 10, our preschool children will be decorating grocery bags and talking about ways they can help in their neighborhood. The children will be encouraged to bring their bag back to church on April 24 filled with food for our Kisses of Grace backpack food program. A list of suggested food items will be included with the bags. If you do not have a preschool child, but would like to help, please stop by and pick up a food list.

Finally, she would say, You know who I mean! As with other things, this has come back to get me as I do the same thing and I only have two children. Sometimes, I come into a room and just stand there trying to figure out why I came in. At times, in the middle of a conversation, I just go blank. Thankfully, the folks I am talking with allow me to get jump started and go again. I mention these because I still find humor in them. They remind me of our need for each other, the two heads are better than one policy. We need each other. There is a sweet sound in that. We see our extended family here at Bridges struggling and dealing with sadness and our heart becomes heavy, too. This is the way God created us to be, finding the time to offer our ear and shoulder to be a brother or sister to someone in need. We each have a calling and place and a time to offer our friendship. We may need to pray and ask God to afford us the right words to say or at times, the right words not to say. I appreciate the chance to see so many of you each week and I notice some that are missing. I assure you I miss a lot, too. We can all do this. Look around you, and when you see someone missing for a few weeks, find out why they are missing. If you are not sure how, we will sit down and go through the faces until we say yes, that is who I have not seen lately. I just saw a very good movie titled "Risen. It exposed me to just how the Romans and the Pharisees worked so hard to cover up the fact that Jesus had indeed risen as He said he would in three days. One scene that is so vivid in my mind is how they captured Bartholomew and after he is assured by the Roman leader he would not be harmed, he whispers where the disciples are by saying they are "Everywhere". This still gives me chills. It is so true, we are everywhere. My challenge to you is to rise to the call and be willing to lend a hand to someone in need, an ear to those who need to talk, a shoulder to someone who needs to cry. If not us, then who? I added a line to this article just this morning as I was helping our youth be door greeters on Sunday. I saw a face of a lady that had not been at church for a long time. The reason is not important, but the fact that several people kept showing love and concern for her over the past year lets me know that the time spent was well worth it. There are cards at the Information Counter that you can send out each week. They just say We have missed you. Thanks for all you do to make us a family. See you Sunday, John If you are in your 20 s, 30 s, or 40 s and have recently found yourself divorced and facing life as a single parent, we would like to invite you to Starting Over. We meet every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at 6:30 pm in the Evergreen Center. STARTING OVER
