Those who abide in love abide in God. God revealed Himself most fully to humankind by sending His Son Jesus to become one of us. In particular, Jesus revealed to us that the way we can remain in God s love is by loving one another. So that we may come to share in the fullness of life and love in heaven, let us not tire of loving one another. Pope s Pastoral Works May 20 A disastrous flood or earthquake strikes a nation at the other end of the world. Immediately many countries rush in food, medicine, blankets, money, and trained people. Prominent among such aid is the financial help offered by the Holy Father to people in need. In the name of Catholics everywhere, he displays Christ s love and compassion for those who suffer. Each year at this time, Canadian Catholics are asked to give generously to this papal collection, which is passed on to the Holy Father for his use among those stricken by natural disasters. Living with Christ As you are aware we have at the Parish copies of the Living with Christ with daily readings which are used for daily Masses at the church, Heritage Lodge as well as Aspen House. Starting in July we will not have extra copies in the church. We want to let everyone know ahead so that those who use them and like, may have enough time to order for themselves. You can do so individually or we can assist you with that here at the parish, if you wish. The order for whole year which includes 12 months (plus extra edition for Christmas and Easter) is approx. $35 for the large print. Please consider this as it is a valuable way and give us an opportunity to take time for daily prayer and read the scriptures in our own homes. If you have any questions, please talk to fr. Ignacy or call the Parish office. Mother s Day Roses The CWL will be selling Mothers Day Roses at all Masses this weekend. Roses will be 1 for $3.00 or 2 for $5.00 with proceeds going towards the Pregnancy Crisis Centre. PLEASE PRAY FOR Vivian Wulff, Anne Wyman, Doris & children, Joanna Sehn, Louise Buttineau, Baby Weir, Carol Jean-Mosco, Ernie Wulff Also please pray for those who are going through any medical procedures and treatments Upcoming Events What When Where * Dust Angels - May 14 th, Monday 8:00 am - Church * Finance Committee meeting - May 17 th, Thursday 7:00 pm - Office Boardroom

Telling Our Story May 12/13, 2012 Volume 3 Issue 8 Greater St. Albert Catholic Schools, 6 St. Vital Ave. St. Albert, AB www.gsacrd.ab.ca Ph: 780.459.7711 Fax: 780.458.3213 S T. P R I M E A U, M O R I N V I L L E C O M M U N I T Y H I G H S C H O O L Honouring our Identity: Gathering and Sending Many value our schools from the perspective of our success in uniting home, school and parish within a Christ-centred value structure. When learning supports a value system that recognizes the God-given dignity of every student, and the pursuit of their personal fulfillment in the context of the common-good, great things happen to our children. The final phrase in the mission statement of our school division refers to nurturing each (student) to learn, live fully, and serve others. We are blessed with many different ways that our schools engage this mission in their learning environments. However, when schools embrace the joy of Christian giving by bringing it to their communities, province, nation, and the world, we really see this mission being realized to its fullest extent. This past month, three projects, originating from our school communities were honoured at volunteer recognition ceremonies in the City of St. Albert, and the Town of Morinville. Once more, a mission team comprised of our staff and students has returned from their service to those areas still devastated from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The profile of such work has been recommended by others for recognition, not that it is better than the many acts of kindness that occur among students or in classroom projects. These stories are honoured in our communities so they may be a beacon for others of how intentional, extensive, and beneficial the sending component of our educational mandate can be. They sustain our hope in what goodness the call to service brings to our world. In his book, Through Seasons of the Heart, John Powell writes: God sends each person into this world with a special message to deliver, with a special song to sing with a special act of love to bestow. The last words of the Sunday Mass are intended to send us forth as the Body of Christ to realize this outcome. Go in peace to love and serve the Lord. We are equally blessed that the daily work of our schools gives us examples of the justice, joy, and peace that is experienced when all of our students are commissioned to do the same. David Keohane, Superintendent of Schools

Telling Our Story Page 2 Sharing our Gifts and Talents at Notre Dame On April 12 th, Notre Dame Students participated in a Resurrection Celebration. The celebration was planned, prepared and led by the teachers and students of 2C and 2C/F. The students led everyone in prayer, intentions and song. We are truly blessed in having the opportunity to celebrate the joy of the resurrection, as a school. Mrs. Lutgen s grade four class participated in the St. Albert Rotary Music Festival in Choral Speech, where they received a gold certificate. Our school choir has been very busy performing at various locations. They also participated in the Music Festival and were awarded a silver certificate. Our choir had the opportunity to sing with Pro Coro and Jim Reader at the Morinville Community Cultural Centre. They opened the Morinville Trade Show by singing O Canada. We are very proud that they are sharing their talents under the direction of Ms. Winsor and Mrs. Lutgen. G.H. Primeau News G. H Primeau is embracing the Easter season! The school welcomed Father Ignacy to lead our school-wide Easter celebration. The celebration included Father, teachers and students, all sharing Scripture, prayers and the message of joy about our risen Lord. Our students continue to embrace the needs of others through our Charity Friday events as we collect money for the Roots of Change charity, raising money to put towards an educational endowment for young students in Nicaragua. A member of our staff was recognized for showcasing leadership and commitment in the field of Catholic education. Ryan O Gorman was awarded the Excellence in Catholic Education award for the Greater St. Albert School District, celebrating his commitment to building Catholic education within both the school and the community. Our Support for Development and Peace Recently, the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), a government agency whose mission is to lead Canada's international effort to help people living in poverty, announced that it will be drastically reducing funding to the Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CCODP). CCODP will be receiving $14.5 million over the next five years, compared to the $44.6 million previously. This decision will greatly impact the development projects in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East. Development and Peace relies on funding from CIDA as well as donations from Catholics across Canada to respond effectively to the cry of the poor in our world. Their major fundraising campaign, Share Lent, takes place each spring. The Board of Trustees, therefore, is advocating for renewed support of Development and Peace and has sent a letter to the Prime Minister s office expressing their concerns and requesting that funding be restored. Continued support of the Share Lent campaign will be vital to CCODP s mission. We encourage all Catholics to join in these efforts for the sake of Development and Peace and the many impoverished people who benefit from the projects they undertake.

Telling Our Story Page 3 G. P. Vanier News Students and staff will be giving particular attention to Mary this month. We will be praying the Hail Mary each morning to begin the day. On May 2nd, approximately 25 students participated in the Holy Childhood Mass at Holy Family Parish in St. Albert. Later that day, the School Council hosted a presentation by the RCMP on Anti-Bullying. Community members were invited to attend this presentation. Students will be preserving God's creation by participating in the Morinville Town-Wide Clean Up. Father Ignacy will be celebrating Mass with the Vanier Staff on May 18th which is our Professional Development day where staff will participate in a retreat led by GSACRD Divisional Religion Coordinator Louis Kloster. Morinville Community High School It is a tradition at MCHS for the graduating class to support a charity of their choice in their community and fundraising continues. The Grad Charity Committee is hosting a benefit concert on May 17 in the evening. During this event, we will have the opportunity to celebrate local musical talent at Morinville Community High School. The event begins at 7:00 pm and admission is $10.00. The event lasts for the evening (between two and three hours). Please join us! The Odd Job Mob are also continuing their work: raking, mowing, rock picking, window cleaning, fence painting, etc. These activities will be supervised and will require parental consent in order for the students to participate. If you require assistance with tasks around your home and business, please consider jobs with a very low degree of risk that would warrant a minimum donation of $15. You can also choose 2 or 3 smaller-scale jobs for that amount. Please contact MCHS at (780) 939-6891 for more information. On May 4, Morinville Community High School celebrated the accomplishments of our grade 12 students during our graduation ceremony. We were very pleased to have Father Ignacy, Father Mike, and Pastor Greg participate in the celebration of this important event. We had 127 students walk across the stage and a total of over 1250 guests for the celebration. While MCHS is a busy place, we are also mindful that the academic and citizenship aspects of school programming are intended to prepare students for the rest of their lives. The MCHS religion department will be hosting our annual spring Religion Retreat on June 4 and 5. This fun-filled, two-day adventure is the second one of the school year that gives students an opportunity to engage in a spiritual dialogue with peers, MCHS staff and camp staff.

Poem : God Bless The Mothers God bless the mothers, the ones who rock their children and place them in warm cradles. God bless the mothers, the ones who wrap their children and hide them from bullets and terror. God bless the mothers, those who take their children to the movies, and buy them popcorn. God bless the mothers those who feed them their own portion of food, saying they are not hungry. God bless the mother s the ones whose children do well in school, and get straight A s God bless the mothers the ones whose children steal cars, take drugs and drop out. God bless the mothers those who have children who are born perfect, whole and healthy. God bless the mothers whose children cannot walk or hear or see. God bless the mothers whose children grow up and have children of their own. God bless the mothers who lose a child, and spend a lifetime mourning. God bless the mothers who go to church on Sunday and take their children with them. God bless the mothers who stay home on Sunday and bake cookies and read. God bless the mothers who give money to charity and send food to the food banks. God bless the mothers who wait in line, hoping for a decent meal and a bed. God bless the mothers whose children pray at night beside their warm cozy beds. God bless the mothers whose children cry out in hunger. And shiver in the cold. God bless the mothers who sing to their children and rock them to sleep. God bless the mothers who sing without music and dance without reason. God bless the mothers. copyright 1999 Sally Meyer

Reflection Touching Many of us are afraid to touch other people. We give a few pennies to a beggar, but make sure there is no contact between us, not even eye-contact. Jesus didn t stand off or keep his distance. He wasn t afraid to touch others. He touched lepers, sinners, sick people, and even the dead. Physical contact is precisely what gives people, especially sick and wounded people, a sense of warmth and joy. By the very act of touching another person, we accept that person exactly as he or she is. Lord, give us a warm heart and kind hands. Youth For Christ Camp Youth For Christ Camp is the place to be to grow in faith and strengthen friendships. Children between the ages of 8-14 yrs are invited to come for a week or two as Campers.
