THE SEOND SUNDAY OF EASTER April 8, 2018 A.D. Rev. Dr. ory J. Rajek (608)359-2646 Faith Ev. Lutheran hurch ierre, SD Senior astor Website: www.faithluth.com Email: faith@faithluth.com hurch hone (605)224-2216 hurch Fax (605)224-2226 A hrist aring eople Who Gather Around Word and Sacrament, Yoked Together, In ersonal Service to hrist in World Wide Missions AS WE GATHER Thomas is seldom remembered for anything other than his doubt. In our quest to find relatable biblical characters, we often leave Thomas as a man who needed evidence proof. We may miss his bold confession: My Lord and my God! While the other ten disciples had seen Jesus eight days earlier, none of them confessed as Thomas did. And none of them believed until Jesus appeared to them and spoke His Word to them. Focus today not on Thomas s doubt but rather on his confession of faith. WELOME and ANNOUNEMENTS If there are prayer concerns for you, your family, your friends, or your neighbors, please put them on the blue information card. Our Board of Elders are prayerful with our pastor about these joys and struggles of our earthly journey. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective. James 5:16b DIVINE SERVIE OENING SONG Stronger (Reuben Morgan and Ben Fielding) There is Love, that came for us, humbled to a sinner s cross. You broke my shame, and sinfulness. You rose again, victorious. Faithfulness none can deny; through the storm, and through the fire. There is truth that sets me free: Jesus hrist, who lives in me. (chorus) You are stronger, You are stronger. Sin is broken; You have saved me. It is written, hrist is risen. Jesus, You are Lord of all. No beginning, and no end. You re my hope, and my defense. You came to seek, and save the lost. You paid it all, upon the cross. (chorus 2x) 1

INVOATION In the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth. If You, O Lord, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? But with You there is forgiveness; therefore You are feared. Since we are gathered to hear God s Word, call upon Him in prayer and praise, and receive forgiveness from our Lord Jesus hrist through Word and Sacrament, let us first consider our unworthiness and confess before God and one another that we have sinned in thought, word, and deed, and that we cannot free ourselves from our sinful condition. Together as His people let us take refuge in the infinite mercy of God, our heavenly Father, seeking His grace for the sake of hrist, and saying: God, be merciful to me, a sinner. Almighty God, have mercy upon us, forgive us our sins, and lead us to everlasting life. Amen. Almighty God in His mercy has given His Son to die for you and for His sake forgives you all your sins. As a called and ordained servant of hrist, and by His authority, I therefore forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father and of the T Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. INTROIT s. 105:1 5, 8; antiphon: 1 eter 2:2 3 R Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up to salvation if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good. Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works! Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice! Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually! Remember the wondrous works that he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he uttered. He remembers his covenant forever, the word that he commanded, for a thousand generations. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up to salvation 2

Father of glory, remember Your hurch throughout the world, and strengthen all Your baptized people to be bold witnesses of our Lord s resurrection. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. Fount of wisdom everlasting, look in kindness upon our Synod, that all we undertake together may be to Your praise and glory. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. Ruler of all, to Your care and protection we commend all our elected officials and all who serve in our armed forces. Grant them wisdom and honor as they carry out their responsibilities. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. Heavenly King, Your Son promised that He does not break the bruised reed or quench the dimly burning wick. Remember in mercy all who struggle with the darkness of doubt and despair and bring to their hearts the peace of Your Son s resurrection victory. Lord, in Your 6

SERVIE OF THE SARAMENT 11:00am Service REFAE The Lord be with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give Him thanks and praise. It is truly good, right, and salutary that we should at all times and in all places give thanks to You, holy Lord, almighty Father, everlasting God, through Jesus hrist, our Lord, who at His 7

transfiguration revealed His glory to His disciples that they might be strengthened to proclaim His cross and resurrection and with all the faithful look forward to the glory of life everlasting. Therefore, with angels and archangels and with all the company of heaven we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying: SANTUS Holy, Holy, Holy (LSB 507) Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore Thee, asting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea; herubim and seraphim falling down before Thee, Which wert and art and evermore shalt be. Holy, holy, holy! God in three persons, blessèd Trinity! ublic domain RAYER OF THANKSGIVING Blessed are You, Lord of heaven and earth, for You have had mercy on those whom You created and sent Your only-begotten Son into our flesh to bear our sin and be our Savior. With repentant joy we receive the salvation accomplished for us by the all-availing sacrifice of His body and His blood on the cross. Gathered in the name and the remembrance of Jesus, we beg You, O Lord, to forgive, renew, and strengthen us with Your Word and Spirit. Grant us faithfully to eat His body and drink His blood as He bids us do in His own testament. Gather us together, we pray, from the ends of the earth to celebrate with all the faithful the marriage feast of the Lamb in His kingdom, which has no end. Graciously receive our prayers; deliver and preserve us. To You alone, O Father, be all glory, honor, and worship, with the Son and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. LOSING SONG Hallelujah for the ross (Ross King and Todd Wright) Up to the hill of al-vary, my Savior went coura-geously. And there He bled and died for me. Hallelujah for the cross! And on that day the world was changed; a final, perfect Lamb was slain. Let earth and heaven now proclaim: Hallelujah for the cross! (chorus) Hallelujah for the war He fought! Love has won, death has lost. Hallelujah for the souls He bought! Hallelujah for the cross! What good I ve done could never save; my debt too great for deeds to pay. But God, my Savior, made a way. Hallelujah for the cross! A slave to sin, my life was bound, but all my chains fell to the ground, When Jesus blood came flowing down. Hallelujah for the cross! (chorus) And when I breathe my final breath, I ll have no need to fear that rest. This hope will guide me into death: Hallelujah for the cross! (chorus 2x) Hallelujah for the cross! reaching this morning is Reverend ory Rajek, our Senior astor. Holy ommunion is celebrated at our 11:00 service this Sunday. In this Sacrament, our Lord gives His true body and blood for our forgiveness. Those who confess the faith declared at this altar and who desire to receive communion today are asked to read our communion statement, the blue communion card found in the pew rack and sign the bottom of the reverse side so that our communion records might be complete. Thank you. IN REGARD TO HOLY OMMUNION: According to Scripture, Holy ommunion should be celebrated by those who are: United in a common faith (1 or. 10:16-17, 21-22; Rom. 16:17); Repentant of sins (1 or. 5:11, Matt. 18:17-18); Able to examine their lives (1 or. 11:27-29); and believe that in this precious meal they receive the true body and blood of Jesus given and shed for the forgiveness of their sins (Luke 22:19-22). Since Scripture teaches that those people who do not fully understand the meaning of this meal eat and drink to their own harm (1or. 11:27-29), and because the Lord s Supper is the supreme act of stating our unity in faith and doctrine, we would ask those people who are visiting with us to please speak with one of our pastors, before communing, in order that we might fulfill our responsibility of properly instructing people in the right use of the precious Sacrament. First Sunday coffee will be held this Sunday since Easter and the egg bake breakfast were held last Sunday. Thank you to all the ladies who folded the palm crosses for alm Sunday. We would like to thank Mike Shoup for doing the visual effects this year with his lighting on both Good Friday and Easter. Thanks also to Heidi & Steve Kampfe, Ryan Noyes, and Michael Shoup for cutting and cooking the potatoes for our Easter breakfast and to all those who supplied egg bakes for the event. As always there was a great variety and an abundance of food. Thanks again!
