Blood is a valuable natural resource within each of us. By donating blood we can share our joy in life and God s love with others. Many people think they can t donate, often due to outdated or misunderstood information. You can contact Vitalant (formerly United Blood Services) at 877-25-VITAL to check your eligibility and get more information. Blood, like love, is for sharing. Please be a volunteer blood donor at the Hackensack Lions Blood Drive on Wed., January 16 th at St. Paul s Lutheran Church in Hackensack. Call Faith in Action at 218-675-5435 to set up an appointment and let us know if you need a ride to get there. On behalf of patients who will benefit, thank you! PLEASE REMEMBER THE SEMI-ANNUAL CONGREGATIONAL MEETING coming up on Sunday, January 27 th, immediately following Sunday morning worship. This is the meeting at which the Congregation receives financial reports and approves the operating budget for the new year (2019). Please take note: January 27 th, and plan to attend this important meeting. THE OPEN AND AFFIRMING COALITION UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST The Open and Affirming Coalition was organized almost 50 years ago as a ministry of the United Church of Christ. No one could have predicted in 1972 that the organization would grow into a movement of more than 1,400 congregations today the largest and fastest growing LGBTQ affirming church movement in the world. In the United Church of Christ today, Open and Affirming churches are living out their faith with a courage that is changing and saving lives: Countless LBGTQ youth and young adults are alive today because they found a spiritual family where their capacity to love and seek love was affirmed as a blessing, not condemned as a curse. LBGTQ seniors, facing loneliness and despair in assisted-living communities and nursing homes that aren t prepared to serve their needs, are finding community and support. And our LGBTQ neighbors know that when their rights and dignity are under attack, Open and Affirming congregations will stand with them. The Open and Affirming Coalition is an independent non-profit organization that receives no regular financial support from Our Church s Wider Mission. Your gift now will enable them to carry out their mission to build and renew the movement for inclusion, justice and love. 6
