God s love is in all creation. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things. By God s love, we are daily nurtured. Love endures all things. Love never ends. Through God s love we find salvation. Now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love. Hymn 59 All people that on earth do dwell Prayer of Adoration Lord have mercy (Hymn 756) Assurance of Forgiveness God has loved us since the beginning, and God s love for us will never end. Do not fear, therefore, but have faith in God s steadfast love, God s healing power, and God s ability to make all things new. By the grace of Christ, God forgives us, and calls us to abide in faith, in hope, and in love. Thanks be to God!

Music Notes Ich habe genug, (I have enough), BWV 82, by JS Bach (1685 1750) is a church cantata for solo bass voice composed in 1727, while Bach was in Leipzig. It was set to be performed for the Feast of the Purification of Mary on February 2nd. This morning we will hear this work, accompanied by strings with organ continuo. It is enough, I have taken the Saviour, the hope the devout, into my eager arms; It is enough! I have looked on him, my faith has pressed Jesus to my heart; now I wish, even today with joy to depart from this world. During Communion Recitative Ich habe genug. It is enough. My comfort is this alone, that Jesus might be mine and I his. In faith I hold him, and there I see already, with Simeon, the joy of the life beyond. Let us go with this man! Ah! If only the Lord would free me from the chains of my body; Ah! If only my farewell were here, with joy I would say to you, world: It is enough.
Fall in slumber, you weary eyes, close softly and blissfully! World, I shall dwell no longer here, I own no part of you that to my soul would be of any use. Here I must reckon with misery, but there, there I shall behold sweet peace, quiet rest. My God! When will you say that love word: Now! when I shall journey forever in peace and rest in the cool soil of earth, and there, near you, in your bosom too? My farewells are made, world, good night! I myself delight in my death, ah, if it were only here already. Then I will escape all the distress which still confines me in the world. Communion Setting Hymn 756 Michael Dudman AM, (1938 94) studied organ at the NSW Conservatorium of Music with Norman Johnston. After graduation, he held organist positions in England at Ely Cathedral (Assistant) and at Grimsby Parish Church prior to his appointment as Organist and Choirmaster at Christ Church Anglican Cathedral, Newcastle, NSW, in 1968. He composed this setting of Holy Communion in 1979, and it became widely used throughout the Newcastle Anglican Diocese and is now sung in a good many Anglican and Uniting churches throughout Australia. The success of Dudman s setting and others over the past 40 years reflects the move from settings for choir to settings for congregations. At the time of his death, he held a personal chair of music at the University of Newcastle.
