Session Highlights Thank you all for the Christmas rose. What a lovely surprise...a bright spot when days are dark. I do appreciate your thoughtfulness!! Love, Polly Millhouser Look for session highlights in the March Redbud. Thank you so much for your prayers, cards and calls during my recent bout with bronchitis. Thank you for caring, Lucy Hewitt Little three-year-old Laurie was thrilled at the reception she got at church. Oh, mother, she cried, they sang a whole song just for me.. Laurie, Laurie, Hallelujah! A stranger entered the church in the middle of the sermon and seated himself on a back pew. After awhile he began to fidget. Leaning over to a whitehaired man at his side, evidently an old member of the congregation, he whispered, How long has he been preaching? 30 or 40 years, I think, the old man answered. I ll stay on, then, decided the stranger. He must be nearly through by now. The Sunday school teacher was telling her class about the difference between right and wrong. Now, children, let s take another case, she said. If I put my hand in a man s pocket and took all of his money, what would I be? A little boy raised his hand. You d be his wife! he answered. REMINDER: SOUPER BOWL OF CARING SUNDAY The Mission Committee is asking everyone to help fight hunger in our area by supporting Souper Bowl Sunday by donating cans of soup between now and Sunday, February 7, 2016. You may also give cash for this cause! 3
The Mission Committee would like to thank everyone who brought lotion that was given to Good Samaritan residents during the holidays. We were able to give out 112 bottles of lotion. Thanks! Iona Weeks wishes to thank her family and friends for the wonderful 100th birthday party. It was a lovely event. The decorations were great and the food was great! And to all of you who came to help her celebrate her day she sends you a great big THANK YOU!! A special thank you to those who gave donations in her honor. Everything was just perfect!! Laws or love? Businessman John Barrier, unrecognizable in jeans and a T-shirt, cashed a check at his longtime bank. But the teller refused to validate his parking ticket, saying Barrier hadn t made an official transaction. A manager agreed, saying rules were rules. Barrier then performed a major transaction, withdrawing $1 million and taking it elsewhere. He got his parking ticket validated after all. What a great illustration of the perils of legalism, when man-made laws become more important than people. Jesus repeatedly healed and worked on the Sabbath, much to the dismay of religious leaders. He was concerned about people s hearts, not their appearance. What matters more to you: laws or love? Appearance or substance? A heart examination may be in order! 4
