TM THE BIBLE MEETS LIFE: Parents, in today s session, your child heard that Simeon and Anna saw Jesus when He was a baby. Simeon knew he saw the Messiah and praised God for keeping His promise. How does your family praise Jesus, God s Son? JESUS KIDS LEVEL OF BIBLICAL LEARNING God sent Jesus to earth in human form. SIMEON AND ANNA MET JESUS When Jesus was a little baby, Mary and Joseph followed God s rules and took Him to the temple to present Him to God. There was an older man at the temple whose name was Simeon (SIM-ee-uhn). He was a good and godly man. The Holy Spirit guided Simeon to the temple on the very same day that Jesus was there. The Holy Spirit had promised Simeon that he would not die until he saw the Messiah, God s Son. When Mary and Joseph brought Baby Jesus into the temple, Simeon saw them. He took Jesus into his arms and praised God. Lord, Simeon prayed, now I can die in peace. For my eyes have seen Your salvation, just as you promised! LIVE IT OUT: Does your child fully understand who Jesus is? The words of 1 John 4:14 speak to who Jesus is. Help your child memorize the words of this verse to give her reassurance that Jesus is God s Son, sent to save her and all people. DAILY BIBLE READING: Sunday: 1 John 4:14 Monday: Matthew 16:16 Tuesday: Matthew 16:24 Wednesday: Luke 2:49 Thursday: Luke 2:30 Friday: Matthew 16:18 Saturday: Luke 3:23 WEEKLY BIBLE VERSE 1 John 4:14 Mary and Joseph were amazed at Simeon s words. Then Simeon blessed them. An older widow named Anna was there to see Jesus, too. Anna stayed on the temple grounds, serving God and praying. When she saw Jesus, she came to Him and thanked God for sending Him. Anna told the people who were waiting for a Savior that He had arrived! After Mary and Joseph presented Jesus at the temple, they returned to their home in Nazareth. Jesus grew and became strong. He was filled with wisdom, and God s grace was on Him. based on Luke 2:21-40 TAKE IT FURTHER: Check out the Simeon and Anna Met Jesus section of the Bible Studies for Life: Kids Family App.

TM THE BIBLE MEETS LIFE: Parents, in today s Bible story your child learned about Jesus when He was a boy. Jesus went to the temple with Mary and Joseph. Help your child understand that Jesus was a real person who understood what it meant to be human. JESUS KIDS LEVEL OF BIBLICAL LEARNING Jesus understands what it is like to be human. JESUS WENT TO THE TEMPLE Every year Mary and Joseph traveled to Jerusalem for the Passover Festival. When Jesus was 12 years old, He went with them. When the festival was over, Mary and Joseph and those traveling with them began their journey home. Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but His parents did not know it! Perhaps Mary thought that Jesus was with the men and boys, and perhaps Joseph thought that Jesus was walking with the women and children. Mary and Joseph had traveled on the way back to Nazareth an entire day before they realized that Jesus was not in their group. They looked everywhere for Him. They asked their relatives and friends about Him. No one had seen Jesus! LIVE IT OUT: Recall with your child that Jesus was a person, in addition to being God. Jesus experienced some of the same things your child experiences during her childhood. Help your child be thankful that she can worship Jesus, who understands her struggles and knows just what she needs. DAILY BIBLE READING: Sunday: Luke 2:52 Monday: Luke 2:46 Tuesday: Matthew 17:5 Wednesday: Luke 1:46 Thursday: Luke 2:51 Friday: Acts 3:22 Saturday: Luke 1:51 WEEKLY BIBLE VERSE Luke 2:52 When Mary and Joseph could not find Jesus, they hurried back to Jerusalem to look for Him there. After three days, they found Jesus in the temple. He was sitting with the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. All the teachers were amazed at Jesus understanding and at His answers. When Mary and Joseph saw Jesus, they also were amazed. Mary said to Jesus, Son, why have You treated us like this? Your father and I have been searching for You. We were so worried! Jesus asked them, Why were you searching for Me? Didn t you know that I had to be in My Father s house? Mary and Joseph didn t understand what Jesus was saying to them. Jesus left Jerusalem and returned to Nazareth with Mary and Joseph, and He obeyed them. Mary thought about everything that had happened. She never forgot about this time in the temple. Jesus continued to grow. He grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and with people. based on Luke 2:40-52 TAKE IT FURTHER: Check out the Jesus Went to the Temple section of the Bible Studies for Life: Kids Family App.

TM THE BIBLE MEETS LIFE: Parents, your child learned about John the Baptist and that John baptized Jesus. Jesus was baptized as an act of obedience to God. How can your family members follow Jesus example and be more like Him? JESUS KIDS LEVEL OF BIBLICAL LEARNING Jesus taught about faith, trust, and obedience to God. JOHN THE BAPTIST The angel, Gabriel, visited Zechariah, a priest. Your wife will have a son, Gabriel announced. He will lead many people to the Lord their God. Zechariah did not believe the angel. Zechariah asked Gabriel, How can I know this? I m an old man! My wife is getting old, too! Gabriel said, I was sent to speak to you. Because you did not believe me, you will be silent until your son is born. Months passed and the time came for Elizabeth to give birth. Zechariah wrote on a tablet that the baby would be named John, and then Zechariah could speak. Zechariah said that John would be a prophet of God. LIVE IT OUT: As you think about this week s Bible story, help your child remember that everything Jesus did was an act of obedience to God. Discuss ways your child can follow Jesus example and become more like Him. DAILY BIBLE READING: Sunday: John 13:15 Monday: Matthew 2:2 Tuesday: Matthew 19:26 Wednesday: Mark 10:23 Thursday: Matthew 3:13 Friday: Mark 10:14 Saturday: Matthew 2:9 WEEKLY BIBLE VERSE John 13:15 When John grew up, he began to preach. He told people, Repent! God s kingdom is near! People came to hear John speak and to be baptized in the Jordan River. Share your possessions, John preached. Be honest. Be content with what you have! Some of the people asked if John was the Messiah, God s Son. John said, I am just a voice crying out in the wilderness to tell people that the Messiah is coming. He is more powerful than I am. I m not worthy to untie His sandals! Jesus came from Galilee to see John at the Jordan River. Jesus wanted John to baptize Him. John didn t think he should baptize Jesus, though. John said, I need to be baptized by You! Why do You want me to baptize You? Jesus answered him, Do this, because this is what God wants. So John baptized Jesus. As soon as Jesus came up out of the water, God s Spirit came down on Jesus like a dove, and a voice from heaven said, This is My beloved Son. I am pleased with Him! The next day John and two friends saw Jesus coming. Here is the Lamb of God! John said. The men who were with John believed Jesus was God s Son and followed Jesus. based on Matthew 3:13-17; Luke 1:1-25,57-80; 3:1-22; John 1:19-37 TAKE IT FURTHER: Check out the John the Baptist section of the Bible Studies for Life: Kids Family App.

TM THE BIBLE MEETS LIFE: Parents, today your child learned that Satan tempted Jesus, but Jesus defeated temptation and did not sin. Help your child understand that with Jesus help, people can say no to temptation. JESUS KIDS LEVEL OF BIBLICAL LEARNING Jesus was human and resisted temptation. JESUS WAS TEMPTED God s Spirit led Jesus into the wilderness. For 40 days and nights, Jesus prayed and did not eat any food. He was hungry! After 40 days of praying and fasting Satan came to Jesus and said, If You are the Son of God, command these stones to become bread! Jesus said, It is written, Man must not live on bread alone. Man must live on every word that comes from God. LIVE IT OUT: Remind your child that Jesus used Scripture to help resist the temptations of Satan. Help your child find Bible verses he can memorize to help him resist temptation. Write down these verses and memorize them together. Then Satan took Jesus to the very top of the temple in Jerusalem. If you are the Son of God, Satan said, Throw yourself down. The Scriptures say that God will send angels to protect you! Jesus answered, The Scriptures also say, Do not test the Lord your God! Next, Satan took Jesus to a very high mountain where they could see all the kingdoms of the world. Satan said, I will give You all these kingdoms if you worship me. Go away, Satan! Jesus said. It is written, Worship and serve God only! Satan left, and immediately, angels came to Jesus and cared for Him. based on Matthew 4:1-11 DAILY BIBLE READING: Sunday: Psalm 119:34 Monday: Matthew 4:4 Tuesday: Mark 10:17 Wednesday: Luke 2:42 Thursday: Matthew 4:10 Friday: Mark 11:9 Saturday: Matthew 13:34 WEEKLY BIBLE VERSE Psalm 119:34 TAKE IT FURTHER: Check out the Jesus Was Tempted section of the Bible Studies for Life: Kids Family App.

TM THE BIBLE MEETS LIFE: Parents, your child heard about two miracles Jesus performed healing a man with a skin disease and healing a centurion s servant. Does your family believe that miracles can happen today? JESUS KIDS LEVEL OF BIBLICAL LEARNING Jesus performed miracles through the power of God. JESUS PERFORMED MIRACLES Jesus came down from a mountain where He had taught a large crowd of people. As the crowds followed Him, a man with a serious skin disease, a leper, came and fell down to his knees in front of Jesus. The man begged Him, Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean. Jesus felt sorry for the man. He reached out His hand and touched him, saying, I am willing. Be clean. LIVE IT OUT: The Bible records many miracles performed by Jesus. Do you know of any miracles that occur today? Talk with your child and discuss any miracles he may have witnessed. You and your child might be surprised how many you can recall. Immediately, the disease left the man, and he was healed. Jesus told the man to quietly go to the priest and not tell anyone what had happened. Jesus encouraged him to show thankfulness with his actions and not just with his words. When Jesus entered the town of Capernaum, a centurion came to Jesus and pleaded with Him. The centurion was a military commander. He told Jesus that his servant was at his home, paralyzed, and in great pain. Jesus told the centurion that He would go to the house and heal the servant. The centurion answered, I am not worthy to have You come to my house. If you will just speak the word, my servant will be healed. DAILY BIBLE READING: Sunday: Luke 18:27 Monday: Acts 8:37 Tuesday: Mark 12:10 Wednesday: John 1:29 Thursday: Matthew 8:13 Friday: Mark 12:11 Saturday: John 1:34 When Jesus heard the centurion s belief, He was amazed. Jesus explained that He had not found anyone in Israel with such great faith. Jesus told the centurion, Go. As you have believed, let it be done for you. At that very moment the centurion s servant was healed. based on Matthew 8:1-13 WEEKLY BIBLE VERSE Luke 18:27 TAKE IT FURTHER: Check out the Jesus Performed Miracles section of the Bible Studies for Life: Kids Family App.

TM THE BIBLE MEETS LIFE: Parents, today your child heard about Jesus triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Jesus entry into Jerusalem fulfilled a prophecy and proclaimed Jesus as a king. Your family can be thankful that Jesus came to save people from their sins. JESUS KIDS LEVEL OF BIBLICAL LEARNING Jesus is the Messiah and Savior. THE TRIUMPHAL ENTRY It was the time of year when the Israelites celebrated the Passover. Many Israelites had traveled to Jerusalem to remember what God had done when He rescued His people from slavery in Egypt. Jesus and His disciples were traveling to Jerusalem, too. When they came to the town of Bethphage (BETH-fayj) near the Mount of Olives, Jesus instructed two of His disciples to go into the village. LIVE IT OUT: Help your child remember today s Bible story and recall how Jesus entered Jerusalem. Jesus entered as a king, and people recognized Him as a special person. His entry into Jerusalem was part of fulfilling God s plan. DAILY BIBLE READING: Sunday: John 4:42 Monday: Luke 19:38 Tuesday: Matthew 22:2 Wednesday: Zechariah 9:9 Thursday: Luke 19:40 Friday: Matthew 22:10 Saturday: Matthew 21:6 As soon as you enter the village, Jesus told them, you will find a young donkey tied there. No one has ever sat on it. Untie it and bring it here to Me. If anyone says to you, Why are you doing this? say, The Lord needs it. The disciples did as Jesus told them. They found a young donkey and brought it to Jesus. After they laid their robes on the animal, Jesus sat on the donkey. As Jesus and the disciples made their way to the city, they noticed that a large crowd had gathered on the sides of the road. The people spread their robes on the ground in front of Jesus. Other people cut branches from palm trees and waved them at Jesus. The crowds shouted, Hosanna! Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest. Some of the Pharisees from the crowd told Jesus to make the people be quiet. Jesus answered, If they were to keep silent, the stones would cry out! based on Luke 19:28-40; John 12:12-19 WEEKLY BIBLE VERSE John 4:42 TAKE IT FURTHER: Check out The Triumphal Entry section of the Bible Studies for Life: Kids Family App.

TM THE BIBLE MEETS LIFE: Parents, today in the Bible story of Jesus crucifixion and resurrection, your child learned how Jesus paid the price for our salvation. Remind your child that Jesus is God s Son, who came to save people from sin. SALVATION KIDS LEVEL OF BIBLICAL LEARNING When the Holy Spirit convicts me of my sin, I can trust Jesus as my personal Savior. CRUCIFIXION AND RESURRECTION Jesus went with His disciples to the garden of Gethsemane to pray. While they were there, Judas arrived with a large crowd, carrying swords and clubs. Judas kissed Jesus so the men would know whom to arrest. When they grabbed Jesus, all His disciples ran away. The crowd took Jesus to the high priest, Caiaphas (KAY-uh-fuhs). Caiaphas needed a reason to kill Jesus, so he asked, Are you the Messiah, the Son of God? You have said it, Jesus answered. The high priest decided that Jesus was speaking against God. The crowd shouted that Jesus deserved to die. They spit in Jesus face and beat Him. LIVE IT OUT: Has your child made the decision to follow Jesus? God sent Jesus to provide salvation for the world. There are many resources available to help lead a child to Christ and to help children deepen their relationships with Him. Early the next day, the crowd took Jesus to Pilate, the Roman governor. Pilate did not find that Jesus had done anything wrong, but the crowds yelled, Crucify Him! The soldiers put a robe on Jesus and placed a crown of thorns on His head. They mocked Him and beat Him. They nailed Jesus to a cross, and they put a sign above His head that said, This is Jesus, the King of the Jews. Jesus died on the cross. Jesus was placed in a tomb. A big stone was sealed in front of the tomb so that no one could steal Jesus body. I know you are looking for Jesus. He is not here! He has been resurrected, just like He said. As the women left the tomb, they heard a man say, Good morning. It was Jesus! The women knelt and worshiped Him. Jesus told them, Don t be afraid. Go and tell the disciples to go to Galilee, and they will see Me there. based on Matthew 26:36 28:10 TAKE IT FURTHER: Check out the Crucifixion and Resurrection section of the Bible Studies for Life: Kids Family App.

TM THE BIBLE MEETS LIFE: Parents, today s Bible story was about Thomas. Even after others told Thomas they had seen the risen Jesus, Thomas wanted to see for himself and touch His scars. Thomas proclaimed Jesus as Lord just at the sight of Him. JESUS KIDS LEVEL OF BIBLICAL LEARNING Jesus ascended to heaven but promised He would return one day. THOMAS BELIEVED The disciples secretly gathered in a room on the evening Jesus had risen from the grave. They were afraid the Jewish leaders would come after them, so they locked the door. Suddenly, Jesus was standing in the room with the disciples! Peace be to you, said Jesus. Then Jesus showed them the scars on His hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed to see Jesus alive! Jesus said, As God sent Me, I am sending you. The Holy Spirit will come to you. LIVE IT OUT: Does your child understand that Jesus is alive today? Jesus lives in heaven with God. Jesus left us evidence that He is still alive. Talk about this with your child. Assure him that the Bible gives us plenty of evidence that Jesus is alive. One of the disciples, Thomas, was not there when Jesus came. The other disciples insisted that Jesus was alive. They kept saying, We have seen Jesus! But Thomas did not believe them. Unless I can see and touch His scars for myself, I will not believe you, Thomas declared. Eight days later, the disciples were indoors again. This time Thomas was with them. Even though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood with them. Jesus said, Peace be to you. Then Jesus looked at Thomas and said, Thomas, put your finger here. Look at My hands. Feel My side. TM THE BIBLE MEETS LIFE: Parents, today your child learned about Jesus ascension back to heaven. Jesus promised that God would send a special helper, the Holy Spirit. HOLY SPIRIT KIDS LEVEL OF BIBLICAL LEARNING God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are the Trinity. THE ASCENSION After Jesus rose from the grave, He spent 40 more days with His followers to teach them about God s kingdom. Jesus told His followers to stay in Jerusalem and wait. The Holy Spirit will come to you soon. He explained that God would keep His promise to send the Holy Spirit to be with them. The disciples were confused. They asked about God s plan and when everything would be made right. Jesus told His followers not to worry about knowing what was to happen. He explained that only God knew those things. You will be My witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and all over the world. As soon as Jesus finished talking with the disciples, He was taken up into heaven right before them. The disciples watched Jesus rise up until a cloud took Him out of their sight. As they gazed up into heaven, two men in white clothes stood next to them. The men said, Why do you stand looking up into heaven? Then the men explained that Jesus had been taken to heaven but He would return someday in the same way that He left. based on Acts 1:4-11 WEEKLY BIBLE VERSE John 14:26 TAKE IT FURTHER: Check out The Ascension section of the Bible Studies for Life: Kids Family App.

TM THE BIBLE MEETS LIFE: Parents, today your child discovered how the church began. The Holy Spirit came and empowered the disciples to preach to all who were gathered. Many believed and were added to the church. CHURCH KIDS LEVEL OF BIBLICAL LEARNING A church is a group of baptized believers who meet together to worship and serve God. THE CHURCH BEGAN On a special day called Pentecost, Jesus followers were together in one place. Suddenly, a sound like wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were staying. The Holy Spirit came to the believers like fiery flames and rested on them. When that happened, the believers were able to speak in different languages. Travelers from all over were in the city of Jerusalem. They were faithful men from every nation under heaven. When they heard these sounds, a crowd gathered. The men were confused because each one heard the disciples speaking in his own language. How can this be? they asked. LIVE IT OUT: Does your child love going to church? The church began and helped spread the good news of Jesus throughout the world. That is what the church is still doing. Talk about ways your church spreads the good news about Jesus. Peter stood up and said, Pay attention! These people are doing what the prophets predicted. You allowed evil people to nail Jesus to a cross and kill Him. But God raised Jesus from the grave. We are all witnesses of this, for we have seen Him! So let all of Israel know that God has made Jesus the One you crucified both Lord and Messiah! When the people heard this, they became upset and filled with guilt. They asked Peter and the disciples, What must we do to be saved? Peter said, Confess your sins and turn away from them. Each of you must be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Those who believed Peter s message believed Jesus was the Savior and were baptized. That day about 3,000 people were added to the believers and formed the first church. They listened and learned all that the disciples taught. They met with other believers every day to eat together and pray. They met at the temple to worship and praise God. Every day more people were saved and became part of the joyful, humble group of believers. based on Acts 2 TAKE IT FURTHER: Check out the The Church Began section of the Bible Studies for Life: Kids Family App.

CHURCH KIDS LEVEL OF BIBLICAL LEARNING A church is a group of baptized believers who meet together to worship and serve God. PETER AND JOHN PREACHED One afternoon, Peter and John were on the way to the temple. A man who could not walk was at the temple gate begging for money. He asked Peter and John for help. Peter said, I don t have silver or gold, but I will give you what I have. In Jesus name, get up and walk! Peter took the man by the hand and helped him up. The man walked! He jumped! He praised God! Our power did not make this man walk! God made this man walk! Peter continued to tell the people about Jesus. Many people believed in Jesus because of Peter s words. The temple leaders were not pleased and arrested Peter and John. The next day, they were brought before the high priest and other leaders. By what power have you done this? they demanded. It is because of Jesus this man was healed, Peter replied. No one can be saved except through Jesus. The leaders were amazed that men with little education could preach so powerfully. They had nothing else to say! What should we do with them? the leaders asked. No one could find a reason to keep them under arrest, so they let them go. How are you thankful for the people in your church who teach about Jesus and serve others? CHURCH KIDS LEVEL OF BIBLICAL LEARNING Churches set apart certain people to do certain tasks. THE CHURCH CHOSE LEADERS The church continued to grow because the number of believers grew. One group of people in the church complained that their widows were being overlooked when the daily food was given out. The disciples knew that giving out food to everyone had created a problem. This distraction kept the disciples from preaching God s Word. LIVE IT OUT: Discuss what jobs each person on your church s staff performs. These men would take care of the daily tasks and money so that the disciples could continue praying and preaching to the people. Everyone agreed that helpers were needed. The men chose Stephen, Philip, Prochorus (PROK-uh-ruhs), Nicanor (ni-kay-nuhr), Timon, Parmenas (PAHR-mee-nuhs), and Nicolaus (nik-uh-lay-uhs). The disciples laid their hands on the seven men and prayed for them. The disciples continued to pray and preach about God and Jesus to the people. TM THE BIBLE MEETS LIFE: Parents, your child heard about Stephen, the first Christian martyr. Stephen was accused of blasphemy, but he stood and preached a powerful message about the risen Christ. How does your family tell others about Jesus? CHURCH KIDS LEVEL OF BIBLICAL LEARNING Churches set apart certain people to do certain tasks. STEPHEN PREACHED Stephen was full of God s grace and power, which helped him perform great wonders and signs among the people. Some of the people who heard Stephen preach did not like what he said, especially when he talked about Jesus. They gathered some men to lie about Stephen. We have heard Stephen say bad things about God, the liars told the people. These liars stirred up the crowd, and the people dragged Stephen to the Sanhedrin, the highest Jewish council in the land. Again, liars spoke against Stephen. This man does not stop speaking bad things about this place and about the law. We heard him say that Jesus will destroy this place and will change all our customs that Moses gave us. LIVE IT OUT: God s plan is for believers to tell others about Jesus and how to be saved. Then Stephen began to preach to them. He reminded the crowd of God s promises to Abraham and to Isaac hundreds of years earlier. He told them about Jacob, Joseph, and Moses. He reminded them of how God had saved the Israelite people from slavery in Egypt. Stephen also spoke about the tabernacle and King David and about the temple and King Solomon. Then Stephen told the Jewish leaders how they had been the ones to kill Jesus, the Righteous One of God. When the crowd heard Stephen, they became angry! Stephen, however, was filled with the Holy Spirit. He looked into heaven and exclaimed, Look! I see the heaven opened and Jesus standing at God s right hand! The Jewish leaders began screaming. They rushed against Stephen and threw him out of the city. There they began to throw stones at Stephen. Stephen cried out, Jesus, receive my spirit! Then he knelt down and cried out with a loud voice, Lord, do not charge them with this sin! With those words, Stephen died.
