G R O W I N G I N F A I T H p. 3 Word of Life Solemnity of Christ the King (Jn. 18:33-37) My Kingdom is not here. (Jn. 18:36b) When Jesus was brought to Pilate, He said to him, My kingdom does not belong to this world. Pilate could not understand why he had to intervene in this mocked trial, because he actually did not have a problem if Jesus claimed to be the King of the Jews. The Roman Empire by policy, allowed kings to rule in their realm for as long as they are under his authority. When Jesus claimed He is the King of the Jews, many did not understand Him, because His statement should be understood in context of His Messianic Mission. Christ s Kingdom is here and now, but not yet. How can we make His Kingdom here, a now reality in our daily life? What are some of the steps we are taking to be part of that Kingdom? What can I do to allow the rule of Christ s Kingdom in my heart? Be in God, Fr. Bing Simbáng Gabi is a Filipino term for Evening Mass", popularly known as Misa de Gallo or sometimes called Misa de Aguinaldo. It is a devotional nine-day series of Masses, and Novena Masses practiced by most Roman Catholics in the Philippines in anticipation of Christmas celebration and to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Simbáng Gabi masses, typically start on Dec 15th-23rd. In the Philippines the masses are held daily from December 16 24 and occur at different times from as early as 3:00 am to 5:00 am (break of dawn). During the Spanish time, the Simbang Gabi started early to accommodate the farmers, who began work before sunrise to avoid the noonday heat toiling in the fields. It all began in 1669. Priests began to say Mass in the early mornings, instead of the evening novenas, which were more common practice to the rest of the Hispanic world. This cherished Christmas custom eventually became a distinct feature of Philippine culture and became a symbol of good will and fellowship. From the Spanish tradition of lighting small oil lamps on Christmas Eve, Filipinos adorn their homes with Paról, colorful star-shaped lanterns. Believed to be originally used by worshippers to light their way to church in the early morning, as well as to symbolize the Star of Bethlehem. Paróls continue to be popular yuletide decorations in the Philippines, as iconic and emblematic as Christmas trees are in the West.

First our baseline understanding and then the questions: Tithing is Biblical. God doesn t need our money. Tithing was created for our benefit. It teaches us how to keep God first in our lives and how to live unselfishly. 4. Do I donate 10% of my income before or after taxes? And do I factor in income from side hustles? Honestly, whether you tithe from your gross pay or your take-home pay is entirely up to you. The point here is you re freely giving that 10% of your income. Dave gives off the top of his taxable income, but he ll be the first to tell you, "Just give and be a giver. It s about changing your spirit anyway." As for your side hustle the 10% should be a percentage of your entire amount of income. So if you take a parttime job on the weekends that brings in $300 extra each month, add that amount to your total monthly income. 5. I m making more money now. I want to know how to increase giving above the tithe. When things are going well and you find yourself with lots more income than you need, it can be easy to accidentally spend all that extra cash on yourself. But it should be a great opportunity to begin thinking about other ways to give above and beyond your tithe. That s why it s a good idea to budget what you ll do with the extra so you can make sure you re giving some of it too.. Once you ve calculated your tithe, plus any saving and spending you re doing, see what your surplus is. Divide that surplus among extra offerings, extra investing, and some fun money. It might help to specifically budget a certain amount each month for special giving opportunities above the tithe. Then look around you ask friends if they know of anyone in need, and watch for opportunities to give that money away. If you re intentional about seeking out those circumstances, you re going to find them! Want to get more out of Mass? Come to Mass prepared with Prayer and Insights for the Sunday Readings. Contact: Rhoda 602-228-2579 Dave says that tithing softens the heart of the giver and frees their soul from dependence on money. You ll never walk away from giving feeling bad! Giving comes in many forms, with your tithe being the most important, because it s a biblical mandate. So, let us each consider how we respond to His call to Come, follow, me and remember Luke 6:38 Give and gifts will be given to you.
