First Reading Is 22:19-23 A reading from the prophet Isaiah Thus says the Lord of hosts to Shebna, the master of the palace: I dismiss you from your office, I remove you from your post, and the same day I call on my servant Eliakim son of Hilkiah. I invest him with your robe, gird him with your sash, entrust him with your authority; and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the House of Judah. I place the key of the House of David on his shoulder; should he open, no one shall close, should he close, no one shall open. I drive him like a peg into a firm place; he will become a throne of glory for his father's house. This is the word of the Lord. Responsorial Psalm Ps 137:1-3. 6. 8. R. v.8 (R.) Lord, your love is eternal; do not forsake the work of your hands. 1. I thank you, Lord, with all my heart, you have heard the words of my mouth. Before the angels I will bless you. I will adore before your holy temple. (R.) 2. I thank you for your faithfulness and love which excel all we ever knew of you. On the day I called, you answered; you increased the strength of my soul. (R.) 3. The Lord is high yet he looks on the lowly and the haughty he knows from afar. Your love, O Lord, is eternal, discard not the work of your hands. (R.) Second Reading Rom 11:33-36 A reading from the letter of St Paul to the Romans How rich are the depths of God how deep his wisdom and knowledge and how impossible to penetrate his motives or understand his methods! Who could ever know the mind of the Lord? Who could ever be his counsellor? Who could ever give him anything or lend him anything? All that exists comes from him; all is by him and for him. To him be glory for ever! Amen. This is the word of the Lord. Gospel Acclamation Mt 16:18 Alleluia, alleluia! You are Peter, the rock on which I will build my Church; the gates of hell will not hold out against it. Alleluia!

Gospel Mt 16:13-20 A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi he put this question to his disciples, Who do people say the Son of Man is? And they said, Some say he is John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets. But you, he said who do you say I am? Then Simon Peter spoke up, You are the Christ, he said, the Son of the living God. Jesus replied, Simon son of Jonah, you are a happy man! Because it was not flesh and blood that revealed this to you but my Father in heaven. So I now say to you: You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church. And the gates of the underworld can never hold out against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: whatever you bind on earth shall be considered bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earth shall be considered loosed in heaven. Then he gave the disciples strict orders not to tell anyone that he was the Christ. This is the Gospel of the Lord. Communion Antiphon The Lord says: The man who eats my flesh and drinks my blood will live for ever; I shall raise him to life on the last day. Caritas Australia s East Africa Crisis Appeal Finally, we may mention the situations of poverty - often on an intolerable scale - which have been created in not a few countries the community of believers in Christ is challenged by these inhuman situations: the proclamation of Christ and the kingdom of God must become the means for restoring the human dignity of these people. John Paul II, 1990. The crisis in East Africa has deepened with more communities now declared to be in famine. Caritas Australia humbly requests the Catholic Community stand in solidarity with prayers and support for the 12.4 million men, women and children in urgent need of aid. Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, Eritrea, Tanzania and the world s newest nation, South Sudan, are all in the grip of drought for some, the worst in 60 years. Caritas Australia has launched an emergency response in Kenya and continues to identify areas most in need. Through the East Africa Crisis Appeal, you can help provide food relief, clean water and basic necessities in this time of crisis. JUST A REMINDER OF OUR THANKSGIVING PROGRAM "For the gifts and the call of God are irrevocable ". We are called to be good stewards by using the gifts that God has given us to do the work that God has planned for us alone. If we deny our gifts or fail to use them as God calls us to use them, then some part of God's work will be left undone If you would like to join our Thanksgiving program, please contact the Parish Office Italy Trip 2012 10 th April - 9 th May 2012 Total cost $7200 Tony Centorrino, the travel group leader from St Francis Xavier in Montmorency, who led the parish Italy trip this year is extending again an invitation to Parishioners of St Macartan s to be a part of this wonderful journey. The hospital needs $300,000 to purchase a new echocardiology scanning machine and Austin has set himself a target to raise $3,000 to put towards this purchase. Footy Tipping Round 21. Weather report: Very warm in Halls Creek. Roads packed with caravans, petrol 178 cents. Football premiership won by Ord River Magpies over Halls Creek Hawks. Maybe an omen. Interesting main complaint after and before the game was that the grand final is always played at Magpies home ground. I believe I heard similar comments about another magpie team!!! Round 21 produced two with 8 both Bomber supporters--lucia Keightley and Spencer Meier. The round also produced a change in the leadersboard with Trish Wallace regaining the lead. Denis Rosbrook and Joshua Bryan are one point behind. Trish Duryrea is 4th, James Barrett and Dermot McCarthy equal 5th. Sr.Lois, Dermot McCarthy and John Sheehan were only one point away from correct margin and all scored 7. Looking over the last four rounds we find John Lewis has scored 30 out of a possible 31. He is finishing very well and closing in on the leaders. Others to score a very good 29 out of 31 are Katherine Hawthorne, Lucia Keightley, Terry McKenzie, Dermot McCarthy, Scott Gordon, Ben Hansen and Trish Wallace.
