CHRIST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH June 7, 2015 A place where visitors become friends. Welcome to Christ United Methodist Church! We especially greet those who are worshiping with us for the first time and rejoice that you have chosen to spend this special time with God and us. Feel free to secure a maroon colored information packet about Christ Church found near each door. As God leads, we welcome you to become an active participant with us!! If you desire to speak with our pastor, please contact the church office. If you have a prayer request, you may call the prayer-chain, starting with Linda Miller, 532-8000. Flower on the altar are in honor of the anniversaries of John and Becky Gehres & Steve and JoAnn VanDixon. Both anniversaries are today, June, 7 and both are for 29 years. Congratulations!! A reminder that ALL volunteers in the local church who work with children and youth are required by PA State law to be in compliance with the new background clearances by June 30, 2015. If you have not completed these please see Mandy Gehres to take care of this as soon as possible. 29th ANNUAL GARDEN TOUR SCHEDULED, JUNE 14TH It is hard to believe, but this will be the 29th Garden Tour. Each year we wonder where we will find gardens as lovely as the ones we had the year before. This year is turning out to be a surprising one. Last year I had a number of gardeners say, "Not this year. How about next?" A number of "Will do it next year s" called me to make sure they will be on the tour. We will have six gardens, among which are some surprises. One is at a horse farm, another featuring a hill side garden, with ponds, and others completely different. So now we need your help. 1. If you have perennials flowers divide some and to be sold at the plant sale. Get them divided, keep them watered, and mark them with their name. They will be collected closer to time. 2. Please bake some cookies and put them in containers ready to share. Extras are always valuable for other activities after the tour. 3. Please sign up on the sign-up sheets to offer to sit at a garden and to help. 4. Please sell the tickets you are given. The money has many uses in this church. And, please buy yourself two tickets and enjoy what others have done for us. LET'S MAKE THIS 29TH ONE OF THE BEST. THANKS, ROSE DILLNER The Yarnspinners will not be meeting again until September. Keep those needles going over the summer. Outback Rock Weekend VBS 2015 by Group, Saturday, July 11 all day. Get hoppin to the wildest weekend Down Under! On this Aussie adventure, kids explore God s monumental love and discover what it means to have an unshakable faith. At Outback Rock vacation Bible school, kids learn one important Bible Point, which is reinforced through Bible adventures, a key Bible verse, songs, and hands-on activities. Your VBS kids will also learn about two amazing Bible stories! Every session of Group s Weekend VBS focuses on the same simple, powerful Point: God is always with us. The church is again placing free bottled on the church steps every day, and providing 100 bottles each week for the clients who wait in the hot sun each week for their food. Could you add a case of water to your grocery shopping? If not, $10 can buy 3 cases. If writing a check, be sure to note on the memo line, " Water Ministry," We will use at least 270 cases (yes, thousands of bottles!) of water this summer for this ministry, so every case donated is a wonderful help!
If you would like to place flowers on the altar this summer, please sign the flower chart on the bulletin board outside the sanctuary. Those in charge of making sure there are flowers every week, will appreciate it!! If you want your flowers to be in memory or honor of someone, just call the church office by Wednesday. Both Fishers and Victorian Corner will provide flowers for $30, or you can use your own flowers. The church does NOT order or pay for flowers, so please be sure you either pay the florist directly or put a check in the offering plate--clearly marked "flowers." There will be a celebration of Rev. Dennis Keller's ministry as our District Superintendent on Sunday, June 21st, at Camp Hill UMC, 417 South 22nd Street in Camp Hill. Clergy and laity are invited to come between the hours of 3 to 5 pm to greet Denny and Betsy, wish them well and enjoy an ice cream social. We will be collecting monetary gifts to contribute in Denny's honor to the Bishop's Partners in Mission. If you would like to donate, please send your gift to Grace UMC, 433 East Main Street, Hummelstown, PA 17036 with the envelope clearly marked Dennis Keller. Have you ever wondered who that was that spoke to you during church? Well, now you can look them up by their picture and find their name. Our church is going to have a new pictorial directory made by LifeTouch! Pictures will be taken on two days, July 14 and 15. Sign-ups will begin June 14 following each church service. For information see insert in today s bulletin. Nursery care is available during worship service for children under the age of 5. If you have a young child and would like to take advantage of our nursery care please do not hesitate to contact one of the greeters or any of the ushers before or even during the worship service. Because we are a Safe Sanctuaries compliant church, if you wish to volunteer at any of our service opportunities, you must get state mandated background clearances. If you wish to volunteer please see Mandy Gehres, our nursery coordinator, and she will help you through the process. We thank all of our current volunteers that have completed the process and made our church a safe place for all. Please remember the immediate and continued need for family size boxes of dry cereal for the families of our community. Place boxes in the bin marked King s Kettle Cereal. Thank you!
