February 24, 2019
Our Schedule for February 2019 is as follows: February 24 Class in session JESUS REMEMBER ME - OUR LENTEN CROSS OF PROMISED PRAYER In the Gospel of Luke, as Jesus hung upon the Cross, one of the criminals hanging next to him said, Jesus, remember me when you come into your Kingdom. How often have we uttered those same words? How many times have we asked Jesus to remember us and our loved ones in prayer? No one wants to be forgotten. We all want to be remembered by someone. This Lent, we want to remember ALL the members of our Parish Family in a special way each time we gather together for prayer whether it s within the context of Eucharist, Morning Prayer, praying the Rosary, Stations of the Cross, a prayer service, or any other time we may gather together as a Parish Family. On the weekend of February 23rd and 24th, you will be given a small cardboard cross as you leave church to take home with you. On the cross is inscribed the words, Jesus remember We invite you to write your name (or the name of your family) on this cross and then bring it back with you on the weekend of March 2nd and 3rd and drop it into the collection basket along with your Weekly Offering. We will then collect all the crosses and put them up on our LENTEN CROSS OF PROMISED PRAYER, where we will remember in prayer ALL those persons whose names have been inscribed on each cross. This CROSS OF PROMISED PRAYER will be located right in front of our Baptismal Font, where it will serve as a reminder to each of us of our promise to remember each other in prayer throughout this Lenten Season. Brownbaggers Homeless Outreach The Brownbaggers project serves the poor in the NYC parks during the winter months. Since 2009 we have delivered thousands of lunches. Meeting monthly in the Parish Hall at 12:30 pm, we assemble 100 brown bag lunches with food and clothing items donated by our volunteers. We then travel via subway to multiple Manhattan parks to distribute our lunches to those most in need, returning to Brooklyn by 3:30 pm. John Olash is the current director of our Brownbaggers HomelessOutreach Program. Volunteers can reach John at: johnolash@hotmail.com Twenty five volunteers are needed for this event. RSVP to: johnolash@hotmail.com Please RSVP now for Sunday March 10, 2019 Please consider donating warm socks, hats or gloves into the Brownbaggers Donation Box which will be located in the vestibule of the church after every Mass. Any donations received will be distributed at that month s Brownbagger event. Also, financial donations used to purchase food items can be made in the Parish rectory. Thank you for your support. * Just a reminder that all adults must complete VIRTUS training in order to participate. I have decided to stick with love. We do hope you will consider joining us for some (or all) of the many opportunities we have planned this Lent so keep your eyes open for more information in the next few weeks. DAY OF LENTEN PRAYER & REFLECTION On Saturday morning/early afternoon, March 23rd, Deacon Paul Norman will be here at Saint Saviour Parish to lead us in a day of prayer and reflection. The theme of his reflection will involve Being Still For the Presence of the Lord. We will begin our time together at 10:00 a.m. in the church with the celebration of Eucharist, followed by Deacon Paul s talk and reflections. We will then share in a little soup luncheon and then conclude our time together by 1:00 p.m. We are confident this will be a spiritually uplifting experience for everyone. ALL the members of our Parish Family are invited to join us for this special Lenten afternoon of prayer and reflection - especially all those persons who serve here at Saint Saviour as Ministers (Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Catechists, Teachers, Choir Members, Sacristans, Collection Counters, Ushers, Ministers of Hospitality, Scouting Leaders, Finance Council and Parish Council Members). BRING BACK THAT OLD PALM! Everyone wonders what to do with that old palm they received last year on Palm Sunday. Well, wonder no more! We are ALL in need of prayers, and there is no greater prayer than the celebration of Eucharist. Each Mass Intention is only $15.00.
