PALM SUNDAY 8AM Low Mass /TBA 10:30 AM High Mass /TBA 2PM WANTED: Dear St. Bridians: As you know technology is a means of reaching people. This is especially true for the application named Facebook. My grandchildren have gone far beyond this particular application and probably yours have too! But, we folks of earlier generations are still mastering some of the techniques! An idea from a neighboring parish is one I would like to incorporate into our work here at St. Bride s. Basically we have the means by a laptop or even a smart phone to go live and transmit video of our worship and other activities to anyone who has a Facebook account. I am thinking especially of our folks at home. I have a great wish to be able to stream our worship to them. Imagine that on Easter Morning they might be with us via this medium to see and hear our celebration of our Risen Lord, Jesus Christ. It does take planning and work to set this up but we can do it! Don t you think? I need some helpers, who already have Facebook, who would be able to set up procedures and equipment so we could do this. It seems that people outside of our own community would be able to see this stream, too! So it is an experiment. Please give me some feedback. Let me know if you would like to be involved! IN Christ, Still listening, Kirke
Delegate s Report from 126 th Annual Council meeting at Williamsburg, VA February 16-17, 2018 The Episcopal Diocese of Southern Virginia is composed of 85 Parishes, 18 Missions and 1 Ecumenical Community. The most notable item from this year s Annual Meeting was Bishop Hollerith s announcement that, after ten years of service, he is retiring effective December 31, 2018. A meeting of the Standing Committee with the National OfQicer for matching bishop candidates with a diocese has already been scheduled. Fr. Conor Alexander is the new Chair of the Standing Committee. Bishop Hollerith said that it takes, on average, about 18 months to place a new bishop. In his address to Council Bishop Hollerith expressed his desire to see the Diocese be healthy. In his words, the Diocese is a work in progress in the wilderness of the 21 st century. He acknowledged that our demographics are not promising. He expressed the wish that we be more mission- minded, as our Presiding Bishop Curry has preached. Bishop Hollerith stated that he hoped each parish would do a resource inventory where resource is not building and money but spiritual assets. One of the spiritual assets he mentioned was how common prayer brings multiple groups together. Fear of what we might lose cannot overcome what we can give. He announced the retirements of Sam Webster, Chancellor for the Diocese and Caroline Black, the Missioner for Formation. Bishop Hollerith brought to our attention the fact that 9 years ago the Diocese forwarded only about 5% of its budget to the National Church. This year the Qigure in the budget is 13.5%. The Council passed a budget of $2,261,861.00. It also voted in favor of a Resolution, Support for Developing a Plan for the Future Financial Health of our Diocese. Please, see me if you need information about notable highlights of the budget. The Reverend William Hoffman and Stephen Powers were memorialized. Fr. Stan Sawyer of All Saints did both. A moment of silence was held. The bishop Qinished the time of silence with May they rise in glory.

Certainly the continuous drizzle, rain and dreary skies help this Lent to be a time of sober thought and stick-to-it-tiveness! Among all the things I have to be thankful for are my snug quarters under the sink in which to practice my Lenten discipline! One of the most welcome duties of Lent, for me anyway, is attending the evening Liturgy and then a delicious supper in the Parish Hall, not to mention the thought provoking look into the person and character of St. Paul. I m writing this the morning after the first of the Lenten studies and it was so interesting hearing the various opinions of St. Paul from the attendees. The soups and their accompanying side dishes were as delicious as usual and certainly came in the nick of time for me as pickings in my quarters under the sink have been mighty slim. The coffee hours after services have kept me going. I look forward to more evening liturgy, supper and St. Paul. Those who don t come are missing a good thing. I am adding something to my Lenten Discipline instead of removing something and so far I have managed to keep to it each morning and night. I pray it continues to be so and that all who are working at a discipline can reap the benefits of a job well done. There are no two ways about it; it is not an easy thing to do. Can it be that I have become rather lazy and self-indulgent? Trying Hard, Horatio L. N. Churchmouse A.O.A.C.M.+
