Craig Today is the feast of the Body & Blood of Christ. The Eucharist is the center of the whole Catholic liturgy. The Eucharist is most important in the life of the Church because it is Jesus Christ. The Eucharist is a sacrament which really, truly, and substantially contains the body and blood, soul and divinity of our Lord Jesus Christ under the appearances of bread and wine. The substance of the bread & wine changes but the appearance and taste does not. It is called Transubstantiation. The Eucharist was instituted at the Last Supper. We are the only religion which teaches that after the consecration, the bread and wine changes into the body and blood of Christ. It is not a symbol of the presence of Jesus but it is Jesus. When we receive communion, we are filled with God s life which we call grace and our venial sins are forgiven. Let us appreciate this great gift from God and receive our Lord as often as we can. There is a Corpus Christi procession beginning at Our Lady of Lourdes at 2:30 today and finishing at St Peter s Church. This week is vacation bible school. We pray for our young people as they come to know the bible. Next weekend we will have all Masses outside near the garden. Please bring a chair. If the weather is too hot or rain, we will have Mass in Church. This is to celebrate the founding of our parish 40 years ago. We continue to invite all families to have your picture taken for our pictorial directory. You can sign up after mass or online during the week. Go to our website www.stleo.net to sign up. I remind you that our office will be closed all Fridays during the summer. Fr. Craig Thank You St. Leo Parish for your Amazing Support through Omaha Gives! We raised $11,320! That's more than DOUBLE our revenue for this fundraiser last year! Your support of St. Leo through this event NOT ONLY offset the cost of important services and materials we strive to grant access to through our Church, but also provided St. Leo the Great new and vital visibility in our community! Here's to a great summer! God Bless you All! 02 l St. Leo Catholic Church

Suggestions/Questions: contact Linda Leary, 402-350-1788 or lleary1@cox.net Sacred Heart of Jesus Whether statues or stained glass, the image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus can be found in churches all over the world. Jesus looks down, one hand extended out and another pointing to a heart wreathed in thorns and glowing with light. In the Sacred Heart, we see both the sorrow and the joy of the life of Christ, who became one of us out of love. "Jesus knew and loved us each and all during his life, his agony, and his Passion and gave himself up for each one of us? He has loved us all with a human heart" (CCC 478). In the Incarnation, God becomes man. Jesus experienced the fullness of humanity, including its sufferings. June 8th is the Feast of the Sacred Heart. We remember all that Jesus endured for us. We also remember why he endured it -- out of love. In Pursuit of Life, Love and Happiness By: Deacon Jim Shipman A covenant is when two parties make a solemn pledge to keep an agreement with each other and no matter what happens they will honor that agreement. As an example, our Catholic Church, believes that marriage is a covenant relationship between man and women and is a bond that should not be broken. During salvation history, God, has made many covenants with his people that he will protect, guide and provide for them if they follow His statutes and commandments. God always keeps his side of the covenant, unfortunately God s people have not always kept their solemn pledge. We see an example of one of God s covenants in our first reading. Moses is telling his people about the covenant and the sign of that covenant is the sprinkled blood of a lamb. The people proclaimed they would do what the Lord commands. We hear in our second reading from Hebrews that Jesus is the mediator of the new covenant. In our Gospel we hear the story of the last supper in which Jesus gives us the new covenant, which is His body, blood, soul and divinity in the Holy Eucharist. Each time we attend Mass, we are witnessing the memorial of this covenant with God s people. It is presented in the form of bread and wine which Jesus said, this is my body, and my blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many. We are not receiving a symbol, we are receiving the MOST HOLY BODY and BLOOD of Christ. In this Eucharistic celebration we not only receive Jesus, we are affirming our belief in God s New Covenant.
