Mother's Day Prayer Loving God, you wrap your arms around your people and show your everlasting love in the same way a mother loves her children. We are grateful for the love you have taught us through the mothers in our lives: our own mother who brought us into this world, the mothers of friends who have welcomed us into their homes and families, our grandmothers who took time for us, and the mothers who have helped us even though we were not their children. Bless all the mothers of this world today. May they know the fullness of love they have shared and be blessed every day of their lives. +Amen. Good News from St. Pius X/St. Leo School Hello St. Pius X / St. Leo Community members, Congratulations to our 87 students who will graduate this Thursday evening, May 17th during a Prayer Service which will be held at St. Leo the Great Church! The parents and students will have a Graduation Mass in the morning at St. Pius X Church followed by a breakfast. We are most proud of these graduates and thank them for the hard work as students in our school. We wish them much success in their future endeavors as young women and men who we re sure will affect our world in a very positive way because of their many gifts and talents. Our appreciation also to the parents of these young graduates who have been supportive of their children's hard work and helpful in the whole educational process in our school. We are also so grateful to the faculty and staff who have supported these students during their years in our school. Besides the 8th graders graduating this week, we have several other major endings to the school year for some of our younger students. They are: The 67 pre-kindergarten students will gather on Friday, May 18th with their parents in the Father O Brien Parish Center. They will have a little program for their parents at 8:30am. Following the program the children go with their parents as this is the end of the school year for the kindergarten children. The 68 kindergarten students will close their year with a musical show for their parents and other relatives in the gym on Tuesday, May 22nd at 8:30am. Following the program the children go with their parents as this is the end of the school year for the kindergarten children. We certainly have a lot of endings for the school year, but look forward to great beginnings next school year after you have, we hope, a most enjoyable summer. Also, I want to wish a very Happy Mother s Day to all of our mothers who bless us with their love and help each and every day! Thank you for a wonderful school year and we are praying for a blessed close to our 2018-19 school year. Thank you for all your support. St. Leo Ministry Drive will be May 19 and 20: PENTECOST Weekend. Please give some prayerful consideration to new and exciting ways we can all celebrate through ministry at the Mass and check out Laity in Liturgy for more info! Laity in Liturgy May 13 Next weekend we will be performing our after-mass liturgy drive to coincide with Pentecost. For some theological reflection on getting involved in the Mass I hope you will look at my previous two columns. I am promoting a vision of Mass participation where all parishioners feel welcome and invited to develop a more personal relationship with the Mass by learning, growing and diversifying in ministry. For a parish of our size we would love to see an increase in ministry engagements. The goal for this year is to fill much needed holes of 30 greeters, 25 EMHC s, 20 Ushers, 20 Altar Servers, 15 Lectors, and 10 Sacristans in our Mass Ministries. We would also dearly benefit from a team of 20-30 new faces to help with Assisted Living Communion Ministry, Hospital Communion Ministry and Homebound Communion Ministry. A Coordinator for Homebound would also be ideal! Omaha Gives 2018 is approaching! St. Leo Parish is proud to be participating in Omaha Gives!, a 24-hour charitable challenge organized by the Omaha Community Foundation. The online giving holiday will take place May 23 from midnight to midnight. Mark your calendars because we will need your help! We will be joining more than 800 local nonprofits to raise money together and compete for prize money the more donors we get to give to us, the more likely we are to win prizes. Save the date for this 24-hour, online giving event organized by the Omaha Community Foundation on May 23, 2018! You can schedule your donation early at www.omahagives.org. Search for St. Leo the Great Catholic Church. In our growing music ministry, we could use 40 new Choir Members, 8 Bell ringers and as many Cantors, Pianists and Guitarists as we can find. Regardless of our musical back ground there may be a place for you. You can always set up a consultation with our Liturgist, Drew, who happens to be a sought -after music teacher in the region. He will give you some personalized direction, training, recommendations and an honest calendar for success as a music minister. Email drew@stleo.net if you have any questions in advance of the drive. Thank you! 08 l St. Leo Catholic Church

Seventh Sunday of Easter B May 13, 2018 In Pursuit of Life, Love and Happiness By: Deacon Jim Shipman One of the most difficult issues we face as Christians in today s society is: what is truth? Relativism is the current world s belief system; your truth is not necessary my truth. Your way of looking at life is not my way of life. Your values are not my values. Obviously, this way of thinking can really confuse and contradict what should be the correct and logical truth. There is only one truth in everything that we see, hear, smell or believe and anything else is false. So how do we know what is true? How do we make sense of all the information that is thrown in our face every day? In the eighth chapter of the Gospel of John, Jesus said, If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. In our Gospel today, Jesus is praying for his disciples at the last supper. He said they are in the world, but do not belong to the world. Jesus also asked the Father to protect them from the evil one. That should be a hint for us. We live in the world, but we must not be part of the world. As long as we remain in union with our Lord, we are separated from the world.. Jesus also said, Consecrate them in the truth. Your word is truth. Then he asked our heavenly Father that they be may be consecrated in truth. If we want to know what is truth, then we need to follow the word of God and to ask our Lord to consecrate us in His Truth. Take on prayer for vocations as your personal effort to increase the number of priests, sisters, brothers, deacons, and lay ministers. New Book in Parish Resource Library-Moving Mountains by Terri and Mike Kern St. Leo parishioner Kathy Hayes brother, Fr. Ron, introduced her to the inspiring book, Moving Mountains. Fr. Ron often visited the author while she was recovering from a debilitating accident. Terri Kern s life was full. She was a busy mother of five, an avid runner, and a dedicated volunteer. An expert at managing everyone s schedules and caring for everyone s needs, she made it look effortless. All of that came to a halt one morning in April, when Terri, while on a run, was struck by a car and thrown thirty-five feet. The internal injuries and massive brain trauma Terri sustained should have killed her, but God had other plans. As miracle after miracle unfolded, it became clear that God had more in store for Terri and her family. Moving Mountains is the inspiring true story of one faith filled woman s will to live and her family s journey through suffering to joy.
