FROM THE TOP OF 4TH News and Events from Trinity Heights United Methodist July 2016 Vacation Bible School is coming July 18-22! The theme for this year s Vacation Bible School is "G-Force: Putting God s Love into Action," and it s going to be amazing. Registration forms are available online or in the church office. There are also three ways that youth and adults can help: First, you can sign up to volunteer! Are you a good reader? Actor? Walker? Decorator? Play games? Can you build things with popsicle sticks? Giving kids a good time at VBS requires a lot of hands to be involved, so we need you! Be a hero and contact Kevin to join the volunteer team! Second, we have a few supplies that are still needed for VBS. We are working hard to make VBS free for kids so we can reach more families in our community, and we can do this with your generous support. Look in the narthex on Sundays for information about donating. Third, On June 17, consider staying after church to help decorate and prepare for the exciting week to come. No skills necessary, just a willingness to help make VBS come alive. I m so excited to be part of this ministry of our church - VBS will be the first time that many kids may see God as their Savior and Friend - it s going to be wonderful. Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it. Our Youth Group is not meeting at its regular time (Sundays at 6pm) during the months of June and July, but we do have some special events coming up! Meet Elisabeth Sims, Trinity Height s New Youth Director Elisabeth is a "funner" who loves to play. She has belonged to Jesus since a very young age. She grew up in the heat of Phoenix with her parents and two older brothers, and lots of boy cousins... so she loves the cool weather and four seasons of Flagstaff, where she came for college and never left; and the fun of raising girls now! Being a mom has made her more brave in her life. Her family mission statement is: Love God. Love People. Choose Joy. Take Courage. God's word tells us 365 times to take courage and have no fear, so she is trying to live into that. She is a mom, daughter, sister, friend, mentor, and mud monkey. She has a heart for the furthest out kids- having worked in child welfare and as a Young Life leader with teen moms. Her Big Hairy Audacious Goal is to live at camp and to care for youth (about ages 16-24) who are transitioning from foster care and homelessness. Camp is one of her favorite things in this world, probably because it is such a wonderful picture of Heaven- the feasting and game playing and worship and people and solitude and adventure and naps and beauty and fun and... Elisabeth says: I love the Church, I am a networker and connector, I love adventure and naps in my hammock... My favorite prayer is the Prayer of Jabez and I love Zephaniah 3:17... my favorite holidays are Passover, Purim, and Jesus' birthday... though I love all birthdays and I just love celebrating people... I love weddings... I love pictures, both taking them and being in them; and then making books out of them on shutterfly... Welcome to Elisabeth! She will be working at THUMC on a part-time basis, beginning July 18. Be sure and say hi to her when you see her! Thanks for your prayers for our 20 youth and chaperones on their mission trip to San Francisco, July 9-16

MARK YOUR CALENDAR! "How to Reach New People" - led by Jim Griffith How will you infuse your church and the community that surrounds it? During the Day of Learning at Annual Conference, attendees will have the chance to participate in a session led by Jim Griffith, founder of Griffith Coaching. He began his ministry by starting new churches for the purpose of reaching new people, including five new churches in Florida, North Carolina, and Denver. Since then, he and his network of associates have assessed over nineteen hundred church planting candidates, trained thousands of planters, and coached hundreds of new churches. Leveraging that experience, Griffith Coaching focuses on training and coaching churches of all ages in their efforts to reach the mission field around them. Jim lives in Orlando, Florida and is married to Kim Griffith, a United Methodist Minister. We are planning to take a team to this training. Please mark your calendar and consider joining us! Friday, October 28, 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm Saturday, October 29, 8:30 am - 4:00 pm Prescott Valley UMC Our Annual Charge Conference is scheduled for October 1. Mark your calendar and watch for more information! Construction Notes The Lift The Lift is complete! After many months, the lift on the west end of the building is completed. We will be having a formal dedication of the lift at a later date; watch the newsletter for more information when that is scheduled. In the meantime, it is open for use. However, please do not use without first seeking instructions from the office. Once you are trained, then please use it as you need. We ask that children under 6th grade not use it without an adult. Parking Lot update We are beginning construction on the parking lot project in the middle of July. Once construction begins, please use the east parking lot or the lot upstairs. Air Conditioning Added The Trustees added central air conditioning to the central hall, between the Fellowship Hall and Celebration Hall. These are the infant and toddler sections of the Ark. This addition replaces window units that were not energy efficient. The upgrades will continue through the west wing in the coming year. An FYI We will be closing the north parking lot due to increased inappropriate use in the evenings and weekends. Details are being worked out. There will be signs indicating more information when this begins.
Trinity Heights Helping our Community and World Did you know that Trinity Heights, during the two months of June and July, will lodge 10 different youth mission groups, scout troops, or youth choirs for a total of 15 nights and involving 273 people. In addition, we have hosted 2 Emmaus Walks during the month of June for 6 nights. Plus each week, we open our doors to a wonderful preschool, a narcotics anonymous group, an alcohol anonymous group, Cub Scouts, 3 bible studies, a prayer group, and a meditation group. Our building is doing great ministry! The Salvation Army Thank you Trinity Heights for your generous donation of 54 food items totaling $227.67. This food directly benefits those in the community who are food insecure. Often, those we provide food for have to make difficult choices of which life necessity they could afford such as food medicine or housing. Your continued donations make it possible for us to provide for the less fortunate. Captain Ryan Miller Good Samaritan Bags The Wednesday Morning Bible Study, with the help of our congregation through monetary donations, donations of needed items, and donations of your time, were able to assemble 200 Good Samaritan Bags. If interested in passing some out yourself, stop by the office and we would be happy to give you some to share with those you find in need. Foster Teens Mission Project For the Desert Southwest Conference Mission Project to help Foster Teens, you gave 43 $25 gift cards. With your help we were also able to include recipes with each card. We delivered them to Coconino CASA for Kids, Inc. and they were thrilled to receive such a wonderful gift to pass on to struggling teens. Stuff the Backpacks July 14, 4:00-7:00 pm 20-30 volunteers are needed to help stuff 500 backpacks with school supplies for the upcoming school year. We will be meeting at Coconino County Career Center on King Street behind the Cal-Ranch, on Thursday, July 14 from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Anyone 12 and older is encouraged to help out.
