Each church is asked to look at ways in which they can continue to be in ministry to the community and world around them, but also look at new and outside the box ways they can reach NEW people for Jesus Christ. At Annual Conference this year, there are posters all around the room of the ways the churches were accomplishing this challenge. Some of the ideas were amazing. One church has a Sew and Serve group of quilters who make lap quilts and prayer quilts for friends of members who go into the hospital. Another church offered an afterschool program called Jesus And Me for kids to have a healthy snack, play games and hear stories about Jesus. And another church offered a ROMEO Group (Retired Old Men Eating Out) who ate breakfast together each morning at a local establishment and invited their friends and neighbors in the community to join them. Each of these groups built relationships and then invited persons into a deeper relationship with Jesus through their local congregation. As I talked with our District Superintendent, Brad, last December and he asked what I thought a WIG Goal might be for Troy UMC, I said that our immediate focus was to finish the space to do more WIG and complete the Healthy Church Initiative prescriptions that we agreed would make us even stronger than we already are toward welcoming people into the faith. We both agreed that those were vital for the first part of 2018. But now, we are ready to consider in what ways do we want to engage some WIG? I invite each of you to pray about Wildly Imaginative Goals and then share some of your insights and promptings of the Holy Spirit with me. I believe a great many of us have some fantastic ideas and insight and I would LOVE to hear yours! Fall is just around the corner, and the staff has some ideas for WIG too. Let s all pray, listen for God, and then dream ways to reach NEW people in the Troy area for Jesus Christ! Let s take Jesus command in the Great Commission (Matt. 28:16-20) to the next level as we begin year five together. Proud to be your pastor, Rev. Leslie Byrd

News and Notes Online and Text Giving are available! We are seeking ways to make it easier and more convenient to give back the blessings you have received from God. Your giving makes it possible for others to be blessed by the missions and ministries of Troy United Methodist Church. We don t all carry checkbooks or cash anymore so text giving and on-line giving help people continue in their faithfulness to God s glory. For more information, please visit our website, or contact Jamie Roucloux, Administrative Assistant of Finance and Communications. UMW Cookbooks Cookbooks are now on sale for $10 to purchase for friends and family who may not have a church home! We want to be a church that reaches out to our community in any way possible. Grab a cookbook to gift to a friend for $10 and introduce them to our church in a fun way by sharing receipes! Summertime Reminders As you travel on vacation, please take photos of God s beautiful creation around you and send ONE of your favorite photos to Pastor Leslie leslieb713@yahoo.com so that she can add it to the video at the end of the summer of all the places we have all traveled in God s great and vast creation. If you visit another worship service while on vacation please bring back a bulletin to share. Give to Leslie to put up on the bulletin board. We love seeing what other worship services bring to the heart. The church never takes a vacation and ministries continue to happen throughout the summer. While you are away, take advantage of our ON-LINE GIVING or TEXT GIVING, as a way of honoring your tithe back to our amazing God and all the work God asks of us year-round. Both are fast, easy and convenient. Visit the Website under the give tab for information on how to sign-up. Youth Mission Trip Witness July 29 during both services Part of our time in Worship on Sunday, July 29th, will be to hear about the Youth Mission Trip and see photos and hear stories about the work they accomplished. Since each of you are present with them in Mission through donations, prayers and support, we know you will want to hear these youth and adults share how God used all of our hands and feet to build relationships with others in the name of Jesus Christ in the Magnolia, Texas area. So, mark your calendars NOW and make plans to be present in God s house on the 29th! Reaching New People for Jesus - CTC UMC Emphasis The Central Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church has an emphasis for 2018-2019 and that is REACHING NEW PEOPLE FOR JESUS as part of the Conference s Vision Statement of Go and Make Disciples of Jesus Christ for the Transformation of the World. Every single church is being asked to answer these 5 important questions: Why do you want to reach new people? Who are the new people you want to reach? How are you going to reach new people? When are you going to reach new people? (and who are you going to use to reach them) What are your specific goals for reaching new people? We are called to look at these questions and ask ourselves who God is calling us to reach out to in Troy, Texas and the surrounding areas?

Ministry Corner Children s Ministry It's time to start registering for VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL!!! Shipwrecked: Rescued by Jesus VBS will be held Sunday, July 29 - Thursday, August 2 from 5:30-8 pm. Volunteers are needed to be crew leaders and station leaders. VBS is always a very exciting time in the life of our church and Children s Ministry. Your child is sure to have a fun time learning and growing in their faith in a safe and secure environment. Pre-registering your child is a tremendous help so please do so as soon as possible. There is no cost for VBS but a $5 donation is asked for those who can provide it to pay for your child s t-shirt. To register for VBS, please visit troymethodist.org and click on the VBS scrolling banner at the top of the page. This will direct you to a page with all the info you ll need about VBS as well as a link where you ll go to register. Women s Ministry The Women s Retreat Volunteer team is furiously planning this years retreat for September 15. The theme for our retreat is Poured Out. We will be looking at ways that we was women pour ourselves into everything that we do and how sometimes, that can be a bit overwhelming, leaving our cup feeling like it s run dry. We ll also be discussing how women of faith can rest assured that they have a heavenly father who wants to pour into them so that they can freely pour into others. This retreat will be unlike any retreat we ve previously done so you won t want to miss it! This will be an opportunity for all women of faith to come together and learn through worship, fellowship, speakers, table discussion, workshops, and more. Registration will begin on August 1. Make sure to date the date of September 15! For those who would like to volunteer, you must first be Ministry Safe compliant. If you are unsure about your standing with Ministry Safe, please contact Betty in the church office. If you are Ministry Safe compliant, you will visit the same webpgae and click on the same banner to get to the VBS homepage. You can then click on the I want to volunteer button to register as a volunteer. We can use all the help we can get so we appreciate your prayer and consideration about volunteering during this very exciting week!

Getting Ready for the Ministry Activity Ceneter July finds us in an exciting place getting ready to move in to Phase 2 space The Ministry Activity Center (or the MAC as it will be called). This has been a long process, but a beautiful and functional building is the result. Thank you to all who have made this a dream come true. Many, many persons and hours of countless sacrifice and giving have made the MAC a reality! We are grateful for every single person and their listening to God s vision for this church. In preparation for this exciting new opportunity, we will schedule a Grand Opening for the community and invite both the Bishop and the District Superintendent to be a part. The date will be set, based upon the availability of both the Bishop and the DS. We will let you know a date upon coordinating with their calendars. In the meantime, we have approved/ordered/begun using the following to get ready for new ministry possibilities: Children s Nursery Request Form if your group or event needs a Nursery. New Building Use Policy for both Phase 1 and 2. New Wedding Use Policy for both Phase 1 and 2. New Building/Event Scheduling program called PLANNING CENTER Planning Center allows staff (both paid and volunteer) to request date, time, space, room set-up, music needs, audio/visual needs, etc. Betty Hester is the chief scheduler and administrator and all requests come to her and must be approved by her. Church ministry has first-priority over outside events. All other groups would call and schedule upon availability through Betty. Jot-Form is an Advertising Request site that the staff now has access to. These will all go to Jamie for further publicity development. This allows the staff to dream, give Jamie the specifics and she creates the pieces allowing the staff to continue to work on other areas of the event. It is a tremendous aid to the staff. Through Jot-Form you can advertise your ministry event through church website, scrolling banner on website, Instagram, Sunday morning slides, bulletin inserts, bulletin announcements, event posters, flyers or brochures, church Facebook page, weekly notepad, email and pulpit announcements. You choose the places to advertise and provide Jamie with the information and she does the rest. Vehicle Use Policy, vehicle use check list form, vehicle safety check list, vehicle sign-in/out of keys procedures have been established for the two new vans. Tables and Chairs 24 new round tables and 192 chairs (8 per table) have been ordered for use in the gym. Don Havard and I attended STRATEGOS International Church Security Planning and Intruder Response Training. Kitchen Use Covenant and Kitchen Supply order forms In progress as of 6/18/18. As you can see, it has been a busy April June 2018! Each of these accomplishments helps stream-line our work, allows the staff more time to vision and create, and provides more opportunity to build relationships with all who enter this house of faith. We are blessed with a tremendous staff and their God-given gifts are being used for God s purpose and glory.
