From Mr. Odell s desk: (God s Word given to teachers each week and we want to share with you, also!) 2 Timothy 1:13-14 13 Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. 14 That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us. Jeremiah 20:9 Then I said I will not make mention of Him, nor speak anymore in His name. But His word was in my heart like a burning fire shut up in my bones; I was weary of holding it back, and I could not. The gospel of Jesus Christ is the greatest of all treasures given to the church and individual believer. It is not a message among many but the message above them all. The Gospel is that good thing which has rescued us from God s holy wrath. The result being that we are new creations able to think with the heart and mind of God. Let us run to God s Word as Truth and stand strong to proclaim what God has revealed in the pages of scripture as our only source of absolute Truth. May indeed the wonder of redemption be preeminent in all our thinking to the point it comes burning forth through us to all those God places in our care. How wonderful and comforting to God alone is Mighty to Save. TEACHER S NOTES FOR YOU! Kindergarten Tidbit ~ Mrs. Whitlock Thanks to everyone who drove to Boggio s Pumpkin patch. It was lots of fun. The children loved it but were tired out. We have read books about pumpkins and did a welcome work paper on the life cycle of a pumpkin. I enjoyed our conferences so I could show and tell you how awesome your children are doing. Thank you for taking the time. Report cards will be sent home on Wednesday. We will start gathering donations for the two Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes. We will fill a boy and girl box as a class. Please look into doing a box at home too. All donations need to fit inside the shoebox. Suggestions of donations include: toothbrush (toothpaste is not allowed), wash rag, soap, Kleenex, pencils, markers, crayons, scissors, small notebooks, stickers, eraser, coloring books, a few small toys (girl or boy), hair accessories for girls and etc. Please bring in your donations to the room. This week we will be busy in Phonics as we add the letters J, j and K, k with the sounds, signs, blends and name of the letters. We will add the C, c blends with the K, k blends and finish the F,f blends and words. The rule : K goes with i and e; c goes with the other three, a, o, and u will be introduced. Consistent review of all letters, names and sounds is important to keep us ready to read. In Handwriting we will practice F, f and J, j and complete a written evaluation. K, k formation will be introduced and practiced. We will write blends and words using these letters along with other consonants and vowels. We will practice the skill of tying our shoes which I am sure will be on going. The students will be drawing shapes on our writing papers and they will classify objects into categories and find the object that does not belong. In Numbers the class will count to 59 and the 20 family will be reviewed. Writing the numbers 2-8 will be reviewed. We will learn to write the number 9. Time to the hour will be shown as we move the hands on our clocks. The students will be introduced to 12 o clock and 12:00 written out. Our song poem O clock may help us remember time to the hour. Please keep working on the teen numbers at home. The students enjoy learning about America in Social Studies. We will continue with Blessed by God, Christopher Columbus and the symbols of our country. We will discuss being obedient. Samuel is grown in our Bible Time and he anoints two Kings. One King (David) loves and serves God but the other King (Saul) chooses to disobey. Obedience begins with the right choices. God sees right into our hearts and wants us to choose to obey Him. We will learn two new songs Love the Lord your God and Little is Much Our memory verse is If you love me, you will keep my commands. John 14:15 Mrs. Whitlock

1st grade ~ Mrs. Wilson Bible - This week we will learn about Gideon. Our memory verse is The Lord is my light and my salvation whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:11 Phonics This week we will learn about root words and suffixes and syllables. We will learn the double consonant syllable rule A long word may be divided between double consonants. The two consonants keep the first vowel short (ex. kitten). We will learn how to mark a word with a suffix. We underline the root word and circle the suffix. This week s special sounds are -ing in pointing, -kn in knot, -gn in gnat, -ang in bang, and -ing in king. Math The students had so much fun measuring with rulers last week! This week we will learn about geometric shapes, relate ordinal numbers to the calendar, understand the difference between foot, inch and yard, count by tens to 150, and introduce the 8-addition family. We will review telling time to the hour and months of the year. We will also begin to have special speed drills for our addition fact families. Spelling please practice week #10 words at home. We now have 15 spelling words each week, so please practice each night at home. Thank you! We had a wonderful field trip to Boggio s with the Kindergarten Class last Tuesday! A big thank you to all the parents that came along! The goal for our class is to fill two shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, one for a boy and one for a girl. Students can bring in items for the shoeboxes anytime before November 9th! Please don't forget items like school supplies and toothbrushes! Please check FISH binders for homework assignments. Thank you, parents, for initialing the homework sheets! We have sixteen tallies and need just four more for our class popcorn party! Please continue to fill in your child s Pizza Hut Book It October reading calendar. The calendar is due back to school no later than November 1 st. 2nd grade ~ Mrs. Bickett Report cards will be coming home tomorrow! Be sure to sign it and return it to school by Friday. In Bible class this week we are beginning a unit on Ruth. This week we will learn what it means to be loyal. Our Bible verse is Ruth 1:16b: Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. We will recite this verse on Friday. We will also have spelling test 10 on Friday. Bonus spelling words for the week are: raccoon, instrument, instance, locomotive, and supplied. In math classes this week we will work on the 13 subtraction family, subtracting two digit numbers, and counting money combinations of bills and coins. In Phonics and Language class we will be working on chart 11 and 12 special sounds. We will continue to identify the subject and predicate parts of a sentence, as well as identifying declarative, interrogative, and exclamatory sentences. We will also learn what an imperative sentence is. In history we will finish our unit on colonial days and move on to the pioneers.

4th grade ~ Mrs. Odell Our Scripture focus this week and for the month is I Thes. 5:18 Give thanks in all circumstances for this is God s will for you in Christ Jesus. We are also memorizing Phil.2:5-11. Thank you for donating towards the caps and mittens and the shoe boxes. What a joy!! We are continuing our giving focus toward our community this week. We will be collecting money to buy gloves, mittens, and hats for needy children in our area. I am praying that the children will give from their excess or their own efforts rather than ask you for money. One suggested way is to give up a soda or candy bar and receive the money for the mitten can instead. We are learning about birds in science. We will start the verb chapter in English. Math is keeping us busy dividing and learning about factoring which leads into fractions. Again, please practice facts at home. We will be testing on spelling list 10 Wednesday and then we will begin list 11. Have a wonderful week! 5th grade ~ Mr. Clausen Keep working on your Missionary Project. Students need to create a poster board for their historical missionary (similar to the Mammal Project). The poster board needs to include name, picture, years of life/ministry, map of ministry, notable achievements, important or interesting facts about the missionary, and a meaningful quote. The project is due the week before Thanksgiving. Mrs. Cook s Jr. High News: All projects are accounted for! Thank you everyone! Tomorrow is October 31st. We think of this day as Halloween and the celebration that involves costumes, trick-or-treating, indulging in candy and goodies, but as believers in Christ, we have a different reason to celebrate October 31st...Reformation Day. Reformation Day is a Protestant religious holiday celebrated on October 31. It recognizes the day German monk Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the door of the Wittenberg Church in 1517. This act is commemorated as the official starting point of the Protestant Reformation. The impact of Martin Luther and the Protestant Reformation has been enormous on global Christianity. In contrast to the extra-biblical traditions and practices of the Church at that time, Luther called the Church back to the good news of salvation by grace alone through faith alone (Ephesians 2:8-9 - "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast"). Luther believed the Word of God was the supreme authority for the Christian faith, rather than tradition or papal decrees. In the process of bringing the Scriptures to the common person, Luther translated the Bible into German, published numerous books and sermons of Biblical teachings, and composed numerous hymns based on Biblical themes. Many of his hymns are still sung today. Robert Rothwell (associate editor of Tabletalk, adjunct professor at Reformation Bible College, and a graduate of Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, Fla.) has noted, Today, Luther s legacy lives on in the creeds and confessions of Protestant bodies worldwide. As we consider his importance this Reformation Day, let us equip ourselves to be knowledgeable proclaimers and defenders of Biblical truth. May we be eager to preach the Gospel of God to the world and thereby spark a new reformation of church and culture. Reformation Day remains a central rallying point for all of those who choose to follow Christ by faith according to His Word. The holiday commemorates the actions of a man who was willing to stand against the ideas of his day and to present God s Word as our guide for salvation (John 3:16) and Christian living. PCA MISSION STATEMENT ~ To provide an excellent academic education with a Christian worldview based on the absolute authority of God s Word, the Holy Bible.
