The Happiness Myth Sermon by David Denison 28 October 2018

Good Morning and Welcome! You had lots of choices this Sunday, and we are so glad that you are here with us! We want to connect with you at your speed and in your way. Please take a moment to complete a Connect Card from the seatback in front of you, and bring it by the info center to receive a special gift. About Us We follow Jesus Christ, believing that he not only provided a way for us to have peace with God, but gave us an example of how we should live. Our doors and arms are open humbly and joyfully to anyone who wants to learn with us how to follow Jesus Christ as Lord. As we say, "Grace happens here." Kids & Babies During our Modern Worship service, our nursery is fully staffed to care for children from birth through 3 years old, while kids in pre-k through grade 5 are encouraged to join Little Eden Kids Church for a special worship time of their own. Parents can register children in the Kids Courtyard beginning at 10:30am. Pickup is immediately after the service (unclaimed children will have to paint with James and the crew). Courtyard Café ~ offers coffee, tea, hot chocolate, juice, and water from 8:30 11:15 am each Sunday. Please stop by and enjoy a cup o joe and catch up with friends. Refreshments & hugs are always free. Did you know on this day in history 28 October 1962 Nikita Khrushchev informed the United States that he had ordered the dismantling of Soviet missile bases in Cuba. The US informs the Soviet Union that they will not invade Cuba. Do you remember where you were when you heard the news?

The Happiness Myth Message by David Denison What do most American adults say they want most in life? To be happy. The pursuit of happiness is so central to our national identity that it s even written into our constitution! How then can it be possible that so many Christians find themselves unhappy? And what does that say about God? Join us this Sunday as David Denison brings us a sermon titled The Happiness Myth, exposing the biblical truth about happiness. Happiness might be great, but God s plans for you are even greater. (a great little place to take notes ) You can stop by the Info Center & order a DVD or CD for $3

Did you catch the entire Sins of the Parent s Series? If not, you re in luck! We are taking pre-orders for the 3-disk set that will be available soon, in a gift case for a $10 donation. The series will be available on DVD or CD and would make an encouraging gift to anyone for the coming holidays. Please sign up at the Info Booth to reserve your copy! Your parents sinned against you. Now what? As much as you want to honor them, the reality is they weren't perfect, and they left marks on you. You learned things from them about how to do life, and some of those "family traits" continue to bear negative fruit in your life. Or they inflicted wounds on you that continue to fester and infect every relationship. Or perhaps you feel no animosity toward them at all, but you live with the scars from those past wounds. The traits, the wounds, and the scars all affect how we do life, but they shouldn't get to have the last say. In this three part series Pastor Roger will explain how to overcome the things that aren't your fault. 1. Traits We Inherited 2. Wounds We Received 3. Scars We Live With

We currently have some Usher and Greeter positions open and need filling in both morning services. If you're ready to take the next step, or feel the urge to help, we could really use your skills! Special Person Needed~ From time to time we have small meetings, gatherings, and events where we serve coffee and light snacks. We are looking for someone to pick up treats, make coffee, and clean up (the snacks not the meeting). You do not need to be Martha Stewart because there is no cooking involved. You may serve twice a month for groups of up to 20. And ACTION! We are looking for someone to run cameras on Sunday morning once a month or more. Get a glimpse of all the behind the scenes action and all the mints you can eat. Volunteers Needed to Paint the Church~ Please come and join James and help beautify our church. We meet Thursdays @ 9 am right here, come make your mark Davinci! Need a Hug? Awesome people just like you are greatly needed in the nursery and in Little Eden Kids Ministry. Security~ We need some passionate people who care about keeping the campus secure. If safety is a high priority for you, consider joining our Security Team on Sunday mornings. You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. ~Galatians 5:13

Each year the congregation elects members to the Board of Overseers to replace the members whose terms are expiring. The outgoing members this year are Karissa Miller and Danny Remchuk. Additionally, while the terms of Nic King and Dave Kniss are expiring also, they have agreed to serve another term so we will be seeking an election by affirmation for those seats. The Overseers will accept nominations from October 25 through November 11 for the positions of Overseer (2 available seats). Anyone who regularly attends SCC may nominate individuals. Nominees must be a member or associate member of SCC. Nominations should be submitted in writing to Danny Remchuk, Chair by leaving this form at the Info Center, emailing your nomination(s) to dremchuk327@gmail.com, or completing and mailing this page into Sarasota Community Church, 4041 Bahia Vista St, Sarasota, FL 34232. The Bylaws and Policy provide that the nominations will be reviewed with the Pastor and Board of Overseers to determine those names which will be submitted to the members for a vote at the Annual Meeting which will be held on December 2, 2018. I nominate the following person(s) for the Board of Overseers: 1. 2.
