This morning we welcome Dr. M. Wilma Welsh. She was born in Black Lands, New Brunswick. Her family moved to Guelph, when she was a young child. In 1960, Wilma moved to Toronto to work at the Church Offices of the Presbyterian Church in Canada. In 1969, she responded to a call to serve the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan and had the privilege of working with the Rev. Dr. C. M. Kao. When she returned from Taiwan in 1975, she joined the staff of the Board of Congregational Life. In 1992, at the time of the major restructuring of the national church, she joined the staff of International Ministries serving as Personnel Administrator. Wilma was one of the first women ordained as an elder in The Presbyterian Church in Canada. (March 1967). She is presently on the Session of St. Andrew s Kitchener. Wilma was national treasurer of the Women s Missionary Society and continues as President of Waterloo-Wellington Presbyterial. One of the highlights of her career was when she was elected Moderator of the 132nd General Assembly of The Presbyterian Church in Canada in June of 2006. She is the only lay person to date who has held this high office. In May 2010, Wilma was honoured by Knox College, Toronto, in the bestowing of the degree of Doctor of Divinity (honoris causa). She continues her work in the church and was Clerk of the Presbytery of Waterloo- Wellington from 2011-2017. Wilma served The Presbyterian Church in Canada for over forty-two years both in Taiwan and in Canada. After her retirement, she continues to share the mission story across the church.

NOTICES FOR CALVIN PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH July 29, 2018 Good morning to all who are worshipping with us today. If you are visiting, please make yourself known to us. We encourage you to fill out one of the visitor envelopes in the pew and give it to an usher or put it in the offering plate. Nursery care is provided for young children. Join us for communion services at Calvin first Sunday of February, June, October and December plus Maundy Thursday and Easter. Minister s Intermission Rev. Frank Szatmari is off until September 25. Ministers in the Presbyterian Church are encouraged to take an Intermission as a time of rest and reflection. Intermission is a full-time experience and is for 10 weeks. There is to be a five year period of employment in the denomination before an intermission may be granted. Twelve months prior to the anticipated start of the Intermission, a proposal must be submitted and approved by Session and Presbytery. Full stipend and benefits will be maintained during the Intermission including the person s contributions to all benefit plans. Pulpit supply is the responsibility of the minister. Rev. Szatmari s request for an Intermission was approved and we encouraged him to take this time away. Please pray for our minister and for this opportunity that he may return to us recharged and refreshed. Rev. Bob Duncanson is available for pastoral care during this time. Summer Sunday School - During the summer, we give our Sunday School volunteers a break. We are trying something new this year. Sunday School and Nursery will be together in the Lounge. Two adults will be with all the children. We will be having a short Sunday School lesson and video, along with a colouring craft and activity. Please speak to Michael Turman if there are any questions. (Note no Sunday School on August 5). Staff Vacation Margaret Woods is on vacation July 22-August 4. Volunteers to read scriptures during the worship service are needed. Please sign up in the Narthex. Habitat for Humanity We will again be sponsoring the local Habitat for Humanity build with a financial donation for snack. Please consider supporting this worthwhile cause with a contribution in your envelope marked Habitat for Humanity. Coffee Hour for July and August will only be on the first Sunday of each month. Please take a moment to greet your neighbours after the service. Are you interested in sending your kids to camp this summer? Camperships are available to attend one of our Presbyterian Camps: Camp Kintail or Camp Cairn. Please see the brochure rack for information about camp sessions and registration; talk to Michael Turman for more information about applying for camperships.

Deadline for the Fall CLARION Newsletter is Sunday August 19. Please send all articles to clarion@calvinchurch.ca or put in Mary Hetherington s mailbox. Vacation Bible School registration is now open online at www.calvinchurch.ca/blog. Space is limited. We still need a few volunteers. Contact Michael Turman if you can help. Dates for Fall Calendar: Annual Golf Tournament - Sunday September 9 at Grand Valley Golf and Country Club. Fall Garage Sale - September 21 and 22. Start saving your treasures now! Queen Street Singers Concert Saturday October 20. Canadian Foodgrains Bank - The Missions and Stewardship Committee is again working to raise funds for this local growing project in cooperation with St. Andrew s Presbyterian in Molesworth. The Canadian Foodgrains Bank is a partnership of fifteen Canadian Christian Church Denominations and church based agencies (including Presbyterian World Service & Development) that works to end hunger in developing countries. The Bank, which is a registered charity, collects grain and cash donations to procure and supply food. It also engages in educational activities related to hunger and food security. CFB has a funding agreement with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) that provides 4:1 matching grants up to a maximum of $25 million a year. Our goal is to raise at least $2,500.00. Mark your regular offering envelope Canadian Foodgrains Bank. Mission Moments Pancakes and a Play Last winter, the caring Sunday School class at St. John s Presbyterian Church in Toronto, ON, hosted a pancake lunch in support of Presbyterian World Service & Development. After reading a short play to illustrate PWS&D s mission and vision, the children invited guests to feast on pancakes and syrup, yogurt and fruit as they passed around a donation basket. St. John s Sunday School pancake lunch raised over $900 for PWS&D, shares Laurie McGugan, the event organizer. We were happy that we got so many people out! Whether saving pennies, launching a campaign or holding a fundraising lunch, generous support from Presbyterians across Canada sustains programs that are building a more sustainable, compassionate and just world. Faithful to our calling, we respond together Diverse people praising God together In Psalm 86, David praises God saying, All the nations you have made will come and worship before you, Lord; they will bring glory to your name. With support from Presbyterians Sharing, the members of Montreal West Presbyterian Church are

experiencing this beautiful vision in their own church. God brought a new diversity of people into this once small congregation and the people responded with welcome. The growth of Montreal West over the last several years, and their renewed sense of vitality and joy is a testament to the importance of inter-cultural ministry and the power of the God who created all nations.
