Ideas for Including Person-First Language Words can be one of the most powerful ways in communicating dignity to each other. When it comes to the area of special needs, always put the person before the diagnosis. For example, rather than saying, special needs people, say people with special needs. This kind of person-first phrasing can give dignity to a person with special needs. Also, whenever you are able, use their name. You would rather be known by your name than by your haircut or shoes. No one wants to be known as the balding man or the long-legged lady. Next week s article will get a little more in depth on this subject. At CWC, we strive to empower and be empowered by our brothers and sisters with special needs. OPPORTUNITIES DOCUMENTARY FEATURING KINWELL ACADEMY TOMORROW "Last Year at the Crossing," a documentary about four at-risk Grant County teens and the school administrator trying to help them overcome obstacles to earn their high school diplomas, will be shown at Indiana Wesleyan University s Globe Theatre at 7:00 pm on January 28, 2019. The heartbreaking and ultimately hopeful film features Roger Younce who administrates Kinwell Academy (formerly The Crossing), a CWC ministry partner organization. BRAIN KITCHEN VOLUNTEERS The Brain Kitchen is looking for volunteers to help with their after school ministry program from 2:10-5:30 on Thursdays and Fridays. Volunteers will be given the opportunity to partner with 4th grade students to help them with homework, play games with them, do movement activities, or teach them how to cook. If this is something you are interested in please email thebrainkitchen@ gmail.com. SPLASH VOLUNTEERS SPLASH is currently interviewing interested individuals to join our team! We are looking for men and women with a heart for 2nd graders, Two-yr olds, Threeyr olds, and Four/Five yr olds. We also are recruiting for individuals to welcome families at the new nursery welcome desk. If you feel a burden for the spiritual growth of youth in our church and city, please email Stephanie Freemyer, the children's director at stephanie.freemyer@collegewes.com. Our Epiphany show is now open in the CWC Art Gallery (located in the atrium)! This show highlights a variety of artists who have depicted early scenes of Jesus' life on earth. During Epiphany, we remember and celebrate God's revelation through a person, Jesus Christ. "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth" (John 1:14).

Rylan Hurd asks us to pray that his hunger for God never ceases. Ray Glass continues to need prayer as he regains his strength following his recent hospital stay. Paul Sebree was transferred from MGH earlier this week, to Lutheran in Fort Wayne. Your prayers are much appreciated. If you would like to be part of the Prayer Team which receives prayer requests via email, send a message to Pastor Alex (alex.mandura@collegewes.com). OUR MISSION Making More & Better Disciples We are blessed to be adjacent to the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University and consider it a gift to be part of raising up students for leadership in the world. We are excited by the numbers of students from both IWU and Taylor University who worship with us each Sunday, who serve in ministry with us and are part of Spiritual Formation groups. As a sending church, our Ministry Development Program (MDP) continues to equip and send out leaders into youth ministry, denominational headquarters, church revitalization and other ministry areas. Transforming the Community With more than 300 commissioned shepherds, we are committed to influencing our neighborhoods, workplaces, and homes with the transforming power of Jesus Christ. We seek to develop strong and healthy families which aid in the revitalization of our community. Resourcing the Church In building partnerships with other churches, we have opportunity to influence, serve, and lead beyond our own congregation. These partnerships inspire and produce events, curriculum, and services that promote a nurturing ministry and revitalization of smaller local churches.
