West Side, we want to say thank you. Because of your generosity this Christmas Season, many families in the Lebanon Community had a better Christmas. West Side Christians generously gave $800 to help support two families that our JoyBelles sponsored through Interfaith Hospitality. The money was divided between the two families, plus $200 in gift cards was given to Interfaith to help in their ongoing efforts. In addition, 17 families in the Lebanon community were given Christmas Food baskets. Thank you to the fourteen plus West Side Christians who helped make these baskets a reality by sorting food and filling bags.

Volume VII Issue 1 Page 4 January 2017 BUTLER SPRINGS CHRISTIAN CAMP & RETREAT CENTER Butler Springs Christian Camp & Retreat Center began when several men had a dream in 1949 to start a new camp to serve the churches of SW Ohio. What began as a week-long age camp is today an all year multi-faceted camp and retreat center. Butler Springs Christian Camp & Retreat Center is a mission near and dear to the heart of the West Side Church. Each year the church not only supports Butler Springs prayerfully and financially, but we also send a team of workers to the camp to lead Adventure 456 for children in 4 th, 5 th & 6 th grades. This week of camp has been a tremendous blessing to many West Side Church members. We may think of camp as a summer place, but it is so much more. Butler Springs desires to be a place that can be used by our churches for retreats, leadership training, discipleship getaways, and many more events. It is through the generous gifts of area churches that Butler Springs is able to fulfill their two fold purpose of bringing people of all ages to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and challenging Christians to a broader lifetime of service through Bible centered programs in a nature oriented setting. Registration for Summer 2017 camp starts January 2, 2017. If you have any questions, see Jeanne Philippo. This year Michael Dawson will again lead our team of volunteers July 16 21 for Adventure 456 which is for kids in grades 4-6. There are also so many other activities and camps that may be advantageous to your child s growth in the Lord. Check out their website at www.butlersprings.com. Winter Weather Alerts: With winter nearly upon us, we want to prepare West Side Christians for the possibility of service and event cancellations. We pray weather will not affect our worship, but know that it could happen. The following will be ways we will communicate any necessary cancellations: West Side Messaging system, our website (www.wscoconline.org), Facebook pages, Cincinnati TV stations WLWT (Channel 5), WCPO (Channel 9), WKRC (Channel 12), WXIX (Channel 19), and Dayton station WHIO (Channel 7).

Volume VII Issue 1 Page 5 January 2017 JoyBelles Christmas Party Rescheduled Due to inclement weather, the Joybelles Christmas party has been rescheduled to January 14, 2017 at 1:00. P.M. Prayer Pals will be revealed and gifts exchanged. This is open to all women of the church. If you do not have a Prayer Pal you can bring a $5.00 gift for an exchange. We will draw Prayer Pals for 2017 that evening. If you cannot attend the party we will have forms you can fill out for a "cards only" Prayer Pal, or a "Traditional" Prayer Pal. JoyBelles Winter Hiatus JoyBelles will take January, February and March off from meeting because of cold weather and early darkness. We will start meeting again April 11 th, but watch for news during these months for activities that will be available for ladies to participate in. Hello to God s Wonderful People: I want to thank God s wonderful people who serve on the Involvement Team. They are Jeremy Bosdell, Carl & Carol Hager, Charlotte Peek, Pete Ream and Bobbie Vires. What a fantastic job you all have done. Some of the things this team did this year was to get people involved in greeting, fixing communion, helping the handicap in and out of services, provide umbrellas to help people in and out of church when it rains. Great job! But one thing that touched my heart this year was the Pie Ministry that was started. The idea was to take pies to different organizations that serve our community. To get this started, we asked our people if they would donate pies. WOW! The response was fantastic. Thanks to all of you for making this such a great success. Thanks to Melody Ashby, Jeremy & Emily Bosdell, Jean Christy, Eleanor Davis, Michael & Crystal Dawson, Linda Fisher, Judy Hudnot, Lexie Kinsworthy, Charlotte Peek, Arretta Rainey, Lois Spence, Betty Wright and to the ones I can t remember (my mind isn t that long). Also, a thank you goes to Carol & Carl Hager for supplying the paper plates and plastic ware. Elder of Involvement Committee, Lew Rainey And now, A note from An elder Lew Rainey

Volume VII Issue 1 Page 6 January 2017 When I was a child people often would declare that the older they got the faster time seemed to go. While I know that is not physically possible; no matter your age, we all have the same amount of time, there is a lot of truth to the statement. I have realized that the older I get, the faster time seems to march on. With that in mind, it is hard to believe that 2016 is nearly over and 2017 is peaking over the horizon. I am looking forward to a new year. 2016 has been a challenging year for me in many ways, and I am excited for what God has in store in the new year. As we look forward to a new year, I want to introduce to you some words we will be using a lot in 2017. Worship, Study, Serve, Sacrifice, Community, and All In. These six words and one phrase are going drive our direction this next year. We are going to challenge you throughout the year to worship an hour, study an hour, and serve an hour at the minimum each week. In that process we recognize two things will happen sacrifices on our part will play out and community will develop. To do this, we have to be all in. I am excited to see where God leads us as we begin to live by these words. Perhaps one area you can plan for as we turn the page into 2017 is with your daily Bible reading. This ties directly to studying an hour each week. If you do not have a systematic way for you to read the Bible already planned, or one you are currently working through, let me challenge you to join me in a chronological study. Starting January 1 st you can begin reading the Biblical text marked out in the chart below (or you can subscribe to a chronological plan on the YouVersion Bible app on your smart device) and then log into my blog, www.michaeldawsononline.com, for my daily thoughts and teaching. The year long chart is available in the stacks in the hallway. If you would like to download a full copy of the reading chart you can do so on my blog, or the church website. Staring in February the Bible reading will be incorporated into the monthly calendar. Will you join my on this journey through the Bible? We are going to challenge you to be all in in worship, study, and service in 2017. We look forward to a new year with new amazing challenges!
