Volume VI Issue 12 Page 4 December 2016 Mission Journeys (formerly known as Teen Mission USA) is an organization dedicated to sharing God s love with teenagers and to lead and challenge them to serve Christ. Ken Henderson, a former West Side member, began Mission journeys in 1970 as Teen Mission USA. He is semi-retired after serving over 40 years as executive director. He continues to lead mission trips and represents the work of Mission Journeys to congregations throughout the USA. Ken was also one of the resource persons used by the Creation Museum during its beginnings. Mission Journeys exists to CONNECT people to WORTHWHILE mission projects and to CHALLENGE and CHANGE lives in churches and communities throughout the world for CHRIST. This is their vision statement. Their heart begins and ends with the ministry of and the person of Jesus. They will continue with the areas they have ministered to in the past, Appalachia, Belize, Honduras, Barbados, and Haiti, (and others) but it seems other areas may be opening for them, too, such as Cuba. Larry Mullholand, the Executive Director is an enthusiastic and energetic leader. His vision is what is needed to carry us forward. In addition to his evangelistic abilities, Larry s carpentry and electrician skills are exceedingly valuable in this work. There is much work to be done. Since the beginning, Mission journeys has sponsored mission trips involving teens under adult supervision. The teens work to construct or repair houses, schools and church buildings while also assisting in Vacation Bible School programs and helping lead worship services. Mission journeys has taken almost 3,000 persons on over 200 work, teaching and evangelistic trips in more than 20 countries. Our former minister, Marty Egelston has led trips for Mission journeys in the past and in the summer of 2003 West Side partnered with Mission journeys for an evangelistic and VBS campaign to the Yakima Indian Reservation near Seattle, Washington. Check out their website at www.missionjourneys.org. Christmas Card Delivery Every year, our widows collect and deliver Christmas cards within the church. You can bring your cards to the church and for $0.10 per card, they will be delivered. If it is for someone out of town, please send it. This service will be starting December 4 th through December 18 th. If you need a members list, see Cheryl Fox.

Volume VI Issue 12 Page 5 December 2016 JOYBELLES MEETING The Joybelles Christmas party will be December 13 at 7:00. Prayer Pals will be revealed and gifts exchanged. This is open to all women of the church. If you do not have a Prayer Pal you can bring a $5.00 gift for an exchange if you want. We will draw Prayer Pals for 2017 that evening. If you cannot attend the party we will have forms you can fill out for a "cards only" Prayer Pal, or a "Traditional" Prayer Pal. These will be in the hallway after Thanksgiving. Interfaith Hospitality Christmas: We are collecting cash donations as well as gifts for the Interfaith Hospitality Christmas Families. All donations need to be at the church by Sunday, December 11 th. Please give your monetary donation to a JoyBelles board member, or put it in the offering, with "Interfaith Christmas" in the memo. If you would like to donate items, contact Melodee Ashby for details. Ladies will be going shopping Thursday, December 15 th. Meet at the church at 9:00 A.M. for shopping, lunch, and wrapping. Let s help these families have a better Christmas! Winter Weather Alerts: With winter nearly upon us, we want to prepare West Side Christians for the possibility of service and event cancellations. We pray weather will not affect our worship, but know that it could happen. The following will be ways we will communicate any necessary cancellations: West Side Messaging system, our website (www.wscoconline.org), Facebook pages, Cincinnati TV stations WLWT (Channel 5), WCPO (Channel 9), WKRC (Channel 12), WXIX (Channel 19), and Dayton station WHIO (Channel 7). Let s show our support for Jordan! As you know Jordan Meilstrup is working with Campus Crusade for Christ on the Jesus film project and is currently out of the country. Let's show him our support with a Christmas card shower. The Missions team is asking all cards to be mailed to following address by December 12 th. As of now, Jordan plans to be home for Christmas but in the meantime let him know you are thinking and praying for him. His address is 10429 Kristen Park Dr., Orlando, FL 32832.

Volume VI Issue 12 Page 6 December 2016 In 1963 Andy Williams released his Christmas album, containing a popular Christmas song, It s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year. In the song, Williams declares that kids jingle belling, and everyone telling you Be of good cheer makes this the hap-happiest season of all. In addition, there ll be parties for hosting, marshmallows for toasting, and caroling out in the snow. These elements come together to make this the most wonderful time of the year. (Be honest with yourself how many of you looked around to see if someone caught you singing while reading?) Many recognize the truth to these lyrics. When people are asked to talk about their favorite times of year, the Christmas season is no doubt among the top answers. But what is that makes it so great? Is it the Christmas parties? Is it the good cheer? Is it the shopping to find that perfect present for each person on the list? Is it spending time with family and loved ones? Is it the celebrations at church that remind us of the birth of our Savoir? My answer is yes yes because all of these things combined together drive the excitement of the season. There is something magical and wonderful about this season. People tend to walk through life with a bit of extra pep in their step. But, this season can also be a drain. Too many Christmas parties. Too many shopping trips to buy all the necessary gifts for loved one. Too many families are pulled in multiple directions so they see everyone during this season. By December 26 th, too often that pep in our step is gone. So the with the hustle and bustle of this season, how do we make sure it remains the most wonderful time of the year? Let me encourage you now, as we quickly slip into December, to remember the reason for the season. Nearly 2,000 years ago, God sacrificed life in heaven, to be born of a virgin, in a lowly stable, to begin the process of bringing salvation to the entire world. This is why we get together with family. This is why we go caroling. This is why give presents and put up decoration. The birth of Jesus is why this season is the most wonderful time of the year. Keeping our focus on Jesus will help us make this the best Christmas season ever. In Christ s, Michael Dec. 4 Dec. 11 Dec 18 Dec. 24 Dec. 25 He Will Be Called Wonderful Counselor Mighty God Come Le Us Adore Everlasting Father Prince of Peace There are many names for Jesus, but what do they really mean? Join us as we discover why He is called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. You'll gain a new and relevant perspective on the Savior who was born and placed in a manger over two thousand years ago.
