THE CALL TO WORSHIP (from Psalm 33)
Minister: Shout for joy in the LORD, O you righteous! Praise befits the upright. Give thanks to the LORD with lyre; make melody to Him with the harp of ten strings!
People: Blessed are the people whose God is the LORD, the people whom He has chosen as His heritage!
Minister: The king is not saved by his great army; a warrior is not delivered by his great strength. The war horse is a false hope for salvation, and by its great might it cannot rescue.
People: Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him, on those who hope in His steadfast love, that He may deliver their soul from death and keep them alive in famine.
Minister: Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield. For our heart is glad in Him, because we trust in His holy name. People: Let Your steadfast love, O LORD, be upon us, even as we hope in You.
Prayer of Confession O God of heaven, we confess that we have not lived our lives in the light of eternity. We have not held fast to the truth that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing to the glory that will be revealed to us.
We have not set our eyes on the unseen eternal things, but set them time and time again on transient things; things we hope will save us; things we hope will give us joy; things to keep us from becoming bored.
But Lord, we also confess that we have not sufficiently thanked You for the provision You make for our lives now. We seldom thank You for the men and women who serve and protect our nation.
We are not in the habit of praying for the governors which You have set over us. We are ungrateful for the liberties we enjoy every day, always craving more than we deserve.
Lord, save us from our sin, and guide us in Your ways. Lord, hear our prayers
