You people come and follow me. If you follow and love you ll learn the mystery of what you were meant to do and be. POSTLUDE I will Sing a New Song of Gladness Soloist: Margaret Duff A. Dvorak Melrose Events Worship Next Week Ted Lowrey and Shari Saunders will be sharing in worship leadership next Sunday, the fourth Sunday of the Epiphany season. Their service is structured around a familiar passage of the Gospel of Matthew (near the end of Matthew 25) where Jesus speaks about the compassionate qualities of worthy citizens of the Realm of God. Among those qualities is the duty of care for neighbours. Jesus reminds his hearers (and us): just as did these things to the least of these who are members of my family, you did them to me. Thank you to our January coffee hosts Denise and Phil Farrauto 2018 Offering Envelopes Now Available! 2018 Offering envelopes are now available for pickup in the church office. If you would like envelopes but do not currently have a number assigned please contact the office. Family Ministry Updates There are lots of exciting things happening with the Family Ministries Program in 2018! Be sure to stay connected to all that is going on by checking the Website, Facebook Page, and e-mails from Meg. Stay tuned for more exciting updates. (6)

An update from Cobourg The office received a lovely card recently from Ruth and wanted to share a portion of it with everyone: My thanks for the emails, notes and calendars I have received from so many of my Church Friends since moving last November. My Church has carried out one of its missions while it is doing outreach. This has helped me with my adjustment to a new home and community. I am so grateful. Many thanks, Ruth McNeely The Prayer Shawl Ministry Saturday January 27, 2018 at 9:30 in the church parlour. Come & join us. Wool, knitting needles, crochet hooks and patterns supplied. Coffee, tea & a light snack. Jam Jars Needed! It s marmalade making time at Melrose! If anyone has jam jars (must be 250ml size) and not using them, we will gladly accept them and use them. Please drop the jars off in the church kitchen anytime. Thanks so much! Jars are the most expensive part of preserve making, so keeping the costs down helps make the profits from the Locke Street Festival higher! We want your used stamps! Melrose United Church continues to support EffectHope (Leprosy Mission of Canada) in their ongoing efforts to eradicate Leprosy. Please drop off your stamps at the Church Office in care of Gwyn. Study Leave Staffing Following worship this morning, Rev. Philip will be on study leave until January 29th. The Rev. Jane Wyllie from First-Pilgrim United Church will be covering urgent pastoral care for the week. Jane can be reached at 905-522-9900 or email: jane.wyllie@gmail.com. Melrose Staff Update The Official Board wants to update you on some recent staffing changes. Darcy Feaver is no longer an employee of Melrose United Church, and we (7)

wish her the very best in all her future endeavours. We will be moving forward with a rotating system of custodian staffing, made up of Al Ritchie, Daniel Payne, and Chris Palmer, with additional support being provided by our Office Administrator Michelle Millson. Kevin Geluch will continue in a custodian/handyman role. We thank all of our staff for their important contributions. If there are any questions, concerns, or compliments related to staffing, please contact Patti Varey or Brenda Moulton. The Prayer Bear Ministry at Melrose is sponsored through a generous gift in loving memory of Easton Carter Strongman, the infant son of Adam and Jessica Strongman, who died in 2013. If you know of anyone in need of some Prayer Bear cheer, you are invited to take one of the bears from the table near the south (right hand) sanctuary door. Please fill in the Prayer Bear registry book also located on the table so that we have some information about the bear s new home. (8)
