THE ANGLICAN PARISH OF ST STEPHEN AND ST MARY MOUNT WAVERLEY WELCOME Easter Day 24 April, 2011 Easter Day Easter Day is the day Christians celebrate Jesus' resurrection into new life, and God's great liberation of humanity from death, pain and suffering. St Paul said that nothing, in life or death, can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus (Romans 8.39). Easter is the great proclamation of this profound truth. Nothing, not tsunami, or earthquake, or flood, can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus. Christ is Risen, Alleluia! Easter message from Dr Philip Freier Anglican Archbishop of Melbourne

AT WORSHIP TODAY Prayer of the Day: Glorious Lord of life, by the mighty resurrection of your Son you overcame the old order of sin and death to make all things new in him: grant that we, who celebrate with joy Christ's rising from the dead may be raised from the death of sin to the life of righteousness; through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. 7.45 am (BCP) Book of Common Prayer: Presiding and Preaching: Fr Grant Edgcumbe Hymns 361, 362, 380 10.30 Contemporary Eucharist: Presiding: The Vicar Preaching: Fr Grant Edgcumbe 9.00 am Easter Booklet Presiding at the Eucharist: The Vicar Musical Setting: Holy Trinity Mass John Ross Introit: Hymn 360 (Part 1 only) Sentence: The Lord is risen indeed alleluia: glory and kingship be his for ever and ever, alleluia, alleluia First Reading: Acts 10.34-43 Gradual: Hymn of the Risen Christ (APBA p.718) Response: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia. Second Reading: Colossians 3.1-4 Gospel Acclamation: Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia Christ has become our paschal sacrifice: Let us feast with joy in the Lord. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia Gospel: Matthew 28.1-13 Sermon: Fr Grant Edgcumbe Offertory: Hymn 393 Anthem: Surrexit Christus Jacques Berthier (trans: Christ is risen Sing to the Lord.) Recessional Hymn: Hymn 386 The flowers for our Easter Celebration have been given by the family of Beth Smith in loving memory of a very special wife and mother, who always liked preparing beautiful flowers for the Church.

First Reading: Acts 10.34-43 34 Then Peter began to speak to them: "I truly understand that God shows no partiality, 35 but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him. 36 You know the message he sent to the people of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ--he is Lord of all. 37 That message spread throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John announced: 38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; how he went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. 39 We are witnesses to all that he did both in Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree; 40 but God raised him on the third day and allowed him to appear, 41 not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as witnesses, and who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. 42 He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge of the living and the dead. 43 All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name." Second Reading: Colossians 3.1-4 3:1 So if you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth, 3 for you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your life is revealed, then you also will be revealed with him in glory. Gospel: Matthew 28.1-13 28:1 After the sabbath, as the first day of the week was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. 2 And suddenly there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord, descending from heaven, came and rolled back the stone and sat on it. 3 His appearance was like lightning, and his clothing white as snow. 4 For fear of him the guards shook and became like dead men. 5 But the angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid; I know that you are looking for Jesus who was crucified. 6 He is not here; for he has been raised, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. 7 Then go quickly and tell his disciples, 'He has been raised from the dead, and indeed he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him.' This is my message for you." 8 So they left the tomb quickly with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 9 Suddenly Jesus met them and said, "Greetings!" And they came to him, took hold of his feet, and worshiped him. 10 Then Jesus said to them, "Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me." 11 While they were going, some of the guard went into the city and told the chief priests everything that had happened. 12 After the priests had assembled with the elders, they devised a plan to give a large sum of money to the soldiers, 13 telling them, You must say, His disciples came by night and stole him away while we were asleep.

Palm Sunday Decorations Thank you to Ron Ritchie, Brian (Ron s brother) and Adrian McKenzie, for their decorations of the church for Palm Sunday. Paschal Candle Once again, Jason Phillips (Kevin and Shirley s son) has painted a magnificent Paschal Candle for 2012. Each year Jason presents a different Easter theme this year it is sheaves of wheat on a golden background, Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains just a single grain, but if it dies, it bears much fruit. John 12.24 We urgently need to find a new supply of palms for 2012. If you or a neighbor/friend could help, please speak to Ron or the Vicar. RENTAL NEWS We have been successful, following approval from the Wardens, Vestry, and the regional Archdeacon, in renting the two general purpose rooms next to the main church office (these are the two rooms formerly used by U3A as their office). These rooms will be rented as from May 1, 2011 for an initial period of twelve months, to a women who will use them for the purpose of establishing an Acupuncture practice. This person is well known to our Real Estate agent and comes with good references. Usage will be quite light, and confined to office hours on weekdays and Saturday mornings. It will have little or no impact on the parish s usage of the building and place no pressure on the car park. There will be no permanent signage on our property. This goes a significant way to replacing the rental income lost with U3A s departure. The Wardens
