Membership Class The Brethren Beliefs class in for this fall has been cancelled. Pastor Chris is available, however, to answer questions and talk more about the Church, our beliefs and practices one-on-one. Announcements, continued 2014 Photo Directory Oakton Church is going to self-publish its own photo directory for 2014. We are currently looking for volunteer photographers to help take informal pictures of household-groups of everyone in the church. There will also be an opportunity to self-submit your own photo. Please contact Jeff Strong or the church office if you can help with the photo-taking. New Book Studies Begin Next Week An upcoming book study for When Bad Things Happen to Good People by Kushner, at Wayne and Carol Spangler s home, will be meeting from 7-8:30p on Tuesday evenings from October 29 th -December 3 rd. An additional book study for Simply Christian: Why Christianity Makes Sense by Wright, at Marc and Leslie Connolly s home, will be meeting from 7-8:30p on Thursday evenings from October 31 st -December 5 th. Please call or email the church office if you are interested in joining either or both of these!! Choral Concert October 27 th The Rockingham Male Chorus, from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia will present a sacred concert on October 27, 2013, at 6:30 PM, at the Hagerstown Church of the Brethren. Sharing the Good News of Christ is the mission of the men, all of whom are volunteers from various backgrounds, careers and denominations. It has been said that their enthusiastic singing and joy lifts the audiences in praise to the Lord. Admission is free a free-will offering will be accepted and light refreshments (punch & cookies) will be offered after the concert. CBM November 17 th Congregational Business Meeting and carry-in lunch will be held on November 17 th after Worship in Fellowship Hall. Look for more information coming soon! Volunteer Needed We are looking for someone to serve as the church historian to take over the historical archives. Pumpkin Party THIS Saturday, October 26 The annual Pumpkin Party to be held at church on Saturday, October 26 th at 4:00 PM. Please join us for crafts, games, and food. More details to follow!

Announcements, continued Crafters Needed for Christmas Craft Show Nov. 21-23 It s a local holiday tradition now in its 20 th year - Oakton Church of the Brethren s Christmas Craft Show! We are now taking crafter registrations and there s room for more crafters wares. The three-day show is consignment-shop style, freeing crafters to do another show that same weekend. Show hours will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on both Thursday, Nov. 21 and Friday, Nov. 22, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23. A $20 crafter sign-up fee and 10 percent of crafter sales go toward church projects, such as the fund for repayment of the church s disability access renovation loan. For more information, contact Pat Reed. Pioneering is the subject of a three-webinar series Congregational Life Ministries is offering three new webinars on the topic of church pioneering. The webcast presenters are leaders from the Anabaptist Network in the United Kingdom, an organization that models dynamic ministry strategies and creative processes for new church development. The three webinars are hosted by the Church of the Brethren and organized together with Urban Expression, Bristol Baptist, and BMS World Mission.
