Love Triumphs Over Hate July 1, 2015 Hymns 351, 7, 263 The Bible Acts 8:1 there (to ;), 3 There was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; As for Saul, he made havoc of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison. Acts 9:1-5 (to :), 6, 7 (to 2nd,), 8-15, 17-22 AND Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus. And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink. And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord. And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and inquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth, And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight. Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem: And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name. But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized. And when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus. And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God. But all that heard him were amazed, and said; Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent, that he might bring them bound unto the chief priests? But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is very Christ.
Acts 13:9 Saul (to 3rd,), 10 said (to 1st,) Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, said, Col. 1:23 I, 25 I I Paul am made a minister; I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God; Col. 1:29 I I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily. Gal. 1:13, 15 (to who), 15 called, 16, 22-24 For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it: But when it pleased God, who called me by his grace, To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood: And was unknown by face unto the churches of Judæa which were in Christ: But they had heard only, That he which persecuted us in times past now preacheth the faith which once he destroyed. And they glorified God in me. Rom. 11:11 (to :) I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: II Cor. 5:17 if If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. I Thess. 5:5 (to :), 9, 11, 15-18, 21, 23 (to 2nd and), 28 (to 1st.) Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do. See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy SH 326:23 Saul of Tarsus beheld the way the Christ, or Truth only when his uncertain sense of right yielded to a spiritual sense, which is always right. Then the man was changed. Thought assumed a nobler outlook, and his life became more spiritual. He learned the wrong that he had done in persecuting Christians, whose religion he had not understood, and in humility he took the new name of Paul. He beheld for the first time the true idea of Love, and learned a lesson in divine Science. SH 43:32 (only) Love must triumph over hate.
SH 327:9-13 (to 2nd.) Evil is sometimes a man s highest conception of right, until his grasp on good grows stronger. Then he loses pleasure in wickedness, and it becomes his torment. The way to escape the misery of sin is to cease sinning. There is no other way. SH 540:5-16 In Isaiah we read: I make peace, and create evil. I the Lord do all these things; but the prophet referred to divine law as stirring up the belief in evil to its utmost, when bringing it to the surface and reducing it to its common denominator, nothingness. The muddy river-bed must be stirred in order to purify the stream. In moral chemicalization, when the symptoms of evil, illusion, are aggravated, we may think in our ignorance that the Lord hath wrought an evil; but we ought to know that God s law uncovers so-called sin and its effects, only that Truth may annihilate all sense of evil and all power to sin. SH 186:17-22 Evil is self-assertive. It says: I am a real entity, overmastering good. This falsehood should strip evil of all pretensions. The only power of evil is to destroy itself. It can never destroy one iota of good. Every attempt of evil to destroy good is a failure, and only aids in peremptorily punishing the evildoer. SH 405:2 Hatred, 17-18, 19 This (only, to 2nd.) Hatred inflames the brutal propensities. The indulgence of evil motives and aims makes any man, who is above the lowest type of manhood, a hopeless sufferer. Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. This is sin s necessity, to destroy itself. SH 1:1-4 The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God, a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love. SH 206:13 This prayer, governed by Science instead of the senses, heals the sick. SH 6:3 (only) Divine Love corrects and governs man. SH 224:31 No power can withstand divine Love. What is this supposed power, which opposes itself to God? Whence cometh it? What is it that binds man with iron shackles to sin, sickness, and death? Whatever enslaves man is opposed to the divine government. Truth makes man free. SH 469:13-17 The The exterminator of error is the great truth that God, good, is the only Mind, and that the supposititious opposite of infinite Mind called devil or evil is not Mind, is not Truth, but error, without intelligence or reality.
SH 192:24 Evil Evil is not power. It is a mockery of strength, which erelong betrays its weakness and falls, never to rise. SH 5:3-6 Sorrow for wrong-doing is but one step towards reform and the very easiest step. The next and great step required by wisdom is the test of our sincerity, namely, reformation. SH 339:1-2 1st The, 3-4 The destruction of sin is the divine method of pardon. Being destroyed, sin needs no other form of forgiveness. SH 102:30-31; 103:6-9 Mankind must learn that evil is not power. Its so-called despotism is but a phase of nothingness. The destruction of the claims of mortal mind through Science, by which man can escape from sin and mortality, blesses the whole human family. SH 335:25-31 Mind Mind is the divine Principle, Love, and can produce nothing unlike the eternal Father-Mother, God. Reality is spiritual, harmonious, immutable, immortal, divine, eternal. Nothing unspiritual can be real, harmonious, or eternal. Sin, sickness, and mortality are the suppositional antipodes of Spirit, and must be contradictions of reality. SH 151:24 The human mind is opposed to God and must be put off, as St. Paul declares. All that really exists is the divine Mind and its idea, and in this Mind the entire being is found harmonious and eternal. The straight and narrow way is to see and acknowledge this fact, yield to this power, and follow the leadings of truth. SH 323:19-24 When the sick or the sinning awake to realize their need of what they have not, they will be receptive of divine Science, which gravitates towards Soul and away from material sense, removes thought from the body, and elevates even mortal mind to the contemplation of something better than disease or sin. SH 404:19-25 This conviction, that there is no real pleasure in sin, is one of the most important points in the theology of Christian Science. Arouse the sinner to this new and true view of sin, show him that sin confers no pleasure, and this knowledge strengthens his moral courage and increases his ability to master evil and to love good. SH 324:19-26 Paul was not at first a disciple of Jesus but a persecutor of Jesus followers. When the truth first appeared to him in Science, Paul was made blind, and his blindness was felt; but spiritual light soon enabled him to follow the example and teachings of Jesus, healing the sick and preaching Christianity throughout Asia Minor, Greece, and even in imperial Rome.
SH 108:3-4 According to St. Paul, it was the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of His power. SH 67:23 Grace and Truth are potent beyond all other means and methods. SH 538:3 (only) Truth should, and does, drive error out of all selfhood. SH 304:5-11 (to ;), 14 Understanding this, Paul said: Neither death, nor life, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God. This is the doctrine of Christian Science: that divine Love cannot be deprived of its manifestation, or object; The perfect man governed by God, his perfect Principle is sinless and eternal. SH 300:9-12 So far as the scientific statement as to man is understood, it can be proved and will bring to light the true reflection of God the real man, or the new man (as St. Paul has it). SH 322:3-7, 9 When understanding changes the standpoints of life and intelligence from a material to a spiritual basis, we shall gain the reality of Life, the control of Soul over sense, and we shall perceive Christianity, or Truth, in its divine Principle. It is highly important in view of the immense work to be accomplished before this recognition of divine Science can come to turn our thoughts towards divine Principle, that finite belief may be prepared to relinquish its error. SH 596:23 Though the way is dark in mortal sense, divine Life and Love illumine it, destroy the unrest of mortal thought, the fear of death, and the supposed reality of error. Christian Science, contradicting sense, maketh the valley to bud and blossom as the rose. SH 288:3 The suppositional warfare between truth and error is only the mental conflict between the evidence of the spiritual senses and the testimony of the material senses, and this warfare between the Spirit and flesh will settle all questions through faith in and the understanding of divine Love. SH 264:24 Spiritual living and blessedness are the only evidences, by which we can recognize true existence and feel the unspeakable peace which comes from an all-absorbing spiritual love. SH 454:22 Wait patiently for divine Love to move upon the waters of mortal mind, and form the perfect concept. Patience must have her perfect work.
