You are a vital part of that love story but do you feel it within yourself? Do you awaken each day knowing that God has given you this gift of 24 hours to live to His glory? Do you have the desire, passion and energy to follow Jesus or do you live in a rut, dully walking through each day with nothing special to do and deaf and dumb to its possibilities of abundant life? Each Sunday from January 12 to February 16, we will pray and discuss how to be vital parts of the kingdom of God and to have His Spirit burning bright within us that we make the best use of each day and live them fully alive to His word and glory. Communion Rail & Coins For Christ Our communion rail and Coins for Christ offering for January is the House of Mercy Orphanage in Piedras Negras, Mexico. House of Mercy opened its doors in 2005 to serve abused, neglected and abandoned children in the state of Coahuila, Mexico. Its mission is to provide a safe, nurturing and Godcentered home for these children. House of Mercy is an approved charity of the United Methodist Church, so all of your donations will be used to support this mission. To date, the orphanage has served 160 children, but the needs exceed their space. January 1 will be a holiday for UMW. We will schedule our first meeting of the year for January 8, 2014 at 7:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Doris Saathoff will kick-off the new year with the program Calling to Prepare for Mission. The objective of the program is to encourage women to actively engage in spiritual practices modeled by John Wesley as they begin a new year of mission. Won t you please join us? Mary Heiligman will be our hostess for the evening. A great time was had at the December meeting by both UMW and UMM. Pastor Mel was a wonderful Santa; the UMW members Everyone seems to have at least one resolution that seems impossible to keep. And that can become very discouraging. The prophet Jeremiah, who had his own reasons to feel down, wrote, The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every New Mercies revealed their secret prayer sister/ brother; delicious food was enjoyed; songs were sung and games played. Both groups look forward to meeting together again in 2014. A big thanks to the Seasoned Saints for allowing us to use their table decorations! We also want to thank Imogene Meyers, Fanelle Bohmfalk and Mary Heiligman for hosting this memorable event. God s Peace to each of You, Karen Muennink morning; great is your faithfulness (Lamentations 3:22-23, NRSV). God refuses to give up on us. When we lose hope, when we fail and fall short, his mercy never runs out. Tomorrow is full of promise and our Lord s unceasing love. What if we took our lengthy lists of changes we want to make in the new year and narrowed them down way down? Rather than making a hal dozen or more commitments that we re unlikely to keep, how about zeroing in on a single word that captures the essence of what we want to achieve or become? North Carolina pastor Mike Ashcraft encouraged church members to each find one word that described a characteristic or vision they wanted to achieve in the year ahead. The experiment turned into a movement, with ideas and testimonials available at myoneword.org What would your one-word resolution be?
