Sunday Worship Westminster Church The United Church of Canada Sunday, September 22, 2013 Eighteenth after Pentecost (Year C) 10:30 a.m. Our service begins with the Prelude, inviting us to prepare for worship. ORGAN PRELUDE Crown Imperial - W. Walton Prelude on Rhosymedre - R. Vaughan Williams Given by Lynne Mavins INTROIT Joyful, Joyful - Hymn to Joy, VU #232 Joyful, joyful we adore you, God of glory, life and love; hearts unfold like flowers before you, opening to the sun above. Melt the clouds of sin and sadness, drive the gloom of doubt away; Giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day. GREETING Leader: People: The Lord be with you. And also with you. CALL TO WORSHIP HYMN O God Beyond All Praising VU #256 PRAYER OF APPROACH PRAYER OF CONFESSION O God, in whom we trust, and who is ever to be found by those who seek you: We acknowledge that we have nothing of our own that is worthy of your loving kindness:

And we confess that there is much in us that deserves your sore displeasure. In your presence we deplore the coldness of our love, the feebleness of our faith, the poverty of our service. Forgive us, O merciful God, restore and renew us. Unbind from us the chains our sins have wound around our lives. Set us free to serve you with willing minds and dedicated hearts. For in your mercy is our hope, in your goodness our strength and support, and in your love our perfect life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Moment of silence for personal confession. Leader: People: Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. ASSURANCE OF PARDON WORD OF WELCOME ANTHEM And the Glory of the Lord from Messiah by G.F. Back to school was a little easier for the Westminster Daycare kids and their parents this year. All thirty-eight of them received new indoor shoes to use at the Daycare. The initiative was spearheaded by past Outreach members Pat Miles and Carol Harvey, and the present chair, Boyd Rausch, carried the ball through his committee and got the project through the Board. Buying the shoes was quite an adventure. Shoes for big feet and little feet, for boys and girls, regular and wide. Armed with a list of the kids' sizes and their gender, Pat & Carol hit the Back-to-School sale at WalMart and with the assistance of a young woman from the Shoe Department managed to meet all the requirements. Amazingly, not one pair of shoes had to be exchanged! Happy feet and happy faces were captured in the photos taken on the first day of school, September 4 th, with Robert Campbell & Boyd Rausch. P.S. Stay tuned for the next installment of Outreach's efforts to be good neighbours.
