may / june 2014 A Note from the Vicar : When I look at the calendar for this month, I see that the 29 th is Ascension Day. It falls on a Thursday and will go unnoticed by most persons. The Gospel lesson for the day is Luke 24:44-53 (NRSV), Jesus said to his disciples, These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you- that everything written about me in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms must be fulfilled. Then he opened their minds to understand the scriptures, and he said to them, Thus it is written, that the Messiah is to suffer and to rise from the dead on the third day, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And see, I am sending upon you what my Father promised; so stay here in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high. Then he led them out as far as Bethany, and, lifting up his hands, he blessed them. While he was blessing them, he withdrew from them and was carried up into heaven. And they worshiped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy; and they were continually in the temple blessing God. I find that, in a way, I am quite jealous of the disciples. Not only were they able to walk with Jesus, and listen to him speak only to them, but also Jesus opened their minds to understand the scriptures. Everyone struggles to understand Holy Scripture. Some are sure of the meaning, some believe they are led to the right meaning, and some hope and pray that their understanding of Scripture is, at least, headed in the right direction. Whether you are one of these, or have some other belief about the interpretation of Scripture is between you and our Lord. Each of us is given gifts in order to carry out different ministries for our Lord (clothed with power from on high). Each of us listens to and reads Holy Scripture. And, we all take meaning away from what we have read or heard (your mind has been opened). My time and your time was not to walk with Jesus in his earthly time, but to walk with Jesus and be his disciple now, in this world, in this place, and at this time. Preach the Word of our Lord by deed and word in this time and place. Walk with Jesus in your life and know that you are a disciple of our Lord. Jesus is and will be with you always, to the end of the age. Tom +

Church Office The church office is relocating to Our Saviour in June. Please let us know if you can help in any way packing and unpacking boxes, moving furniture, cleaning, the list goes on and on We will be working the week of June 9th and hope to finish on June 14th. Please let Tom know if you will be able to help at any time during that week. INTERCESSORY PRAYER LIST Receipts for March 2013 Actual Budget Difference Plate $ 1,398.00 $ 2,211.00 -$ 813.00 Pledge $ 10,317.00 $ 10,408.00 -$ 91.00 Total $ 11,715.00 $ 12,619.00 -$ 904.00 Food Bank Report Thank you for continuing to support the food bank outreach ministry! We raised $581 in the collection plate in March. We have continued distributing food to both Johnston and Saluda. We divide the donations of food and money between the 2 food banks on a 2-1 ratio, since we have two churches in County and one in Saluda County. Thanks to Ric Vann for helping transport the food to the food banks! We continue to provide food for both humans and their pets to each location. Bring your food donations (non perishable items, no glass please) to church each Sunday! We are trying to add 'donation boxes' at various locations in the community to make it more convenient for people to donate food items. If you are unable to bring food to church, you may take food donations to the Chamber of Commerce in Johnston or Tom Long's insurance office. If you would like to participate in this exciting outreach ministry but are unable to attend church, you may make a donation and mail to our church office address!
