March/April 2019 ST. PAUL S MESSENGER O that today you would listen to God s voice! -Psalm 95:7 On January 27, 2019, our church held a Planning and Visioning Retreat. It was SO GOOD! We had wonderful conversation, wonderful listening, and wonderful food. The Holy Spirit was present in every way. The day was roughly divided up into two parts: (1) visioning, and (2) planning. For the first half of the retreat, we listed all the gifts of our church. There were a lot of smiles, and a lot of laughter. From there, we came up with a Vision Statement for our church: Together, welcoming and unfolding the mystery of God. The idea behind having a Vision Statement like this is to be able to quickly tell someone who we are if we had a bumper sticker about our church, it is what we would put on the bumper sticker! This is who we know ourselves to be, and who we are continuing to grow into. I encourage all of you to begin to use these words when describing our church to your friends, family and neighbors. During the second part of the retreat, we got busy in our committees. Each committee came up with a chair person, a board representative, and each committee listed their important upcoming dates for the year. We concluded the retreat with a heartfelt prayer and rendition of This Little Light of Mine. God is still stirring at St. Paul s. Beginning in March, the Completing the Circle group a working group of the church will begin meeting again, as we continue to listen deeply to the Spirit at work in our midst. And, as always with God, more shall be revealed Grace and Peace, Pastor Mary Beth

MESSAGE FROM THE MODERATOR Hello Church Family, my name is Lisa Winnie, I was nominated as your Vice Moderator and have now graduated to your Moderator for the next 2 years. I am honored and privileged to take on this role, fully aware that I follow a long line of big shoes and big hearts. I am looking forward to this opportunity with gratitude as well as some nervousness. I look forward to your support, guidance and kindness, especially from those who have served before. As most of you know, Rick and I moved to Madrid, Iowa from Seattle Washington the summer of 2014. We had moved here to give up the extreme congestion and the high rising cost of living. We left all our family and friends for a calmer lifestyle. I have 2 sons, Andrew 28 and Alex 27, that remain in Washington along with the rest of my family. Miss them all every minute of every day. Sometimes life takes you on an expected turn on our journey of life. This journey, that I believe God has guided me to, is here at St. Paul s Church. He shined a light on a path that included our dear neighbors, Dennis and Juneal, who guided me here to St. Paul s. From the 1 st moment of entering St. Paul s, it felt like family. The church family here is compared to nothing that I have ever experienced before. Putting my faith in God, helps beyond measure to see and hear all those he has put in my path of this life s journey. If we all seek his guidance and pay attention, his love for us all will see us through everything that may difficult and know to savor every moment of wonder he has created. I have learned so much on this journey, but the most important, is that all that matters in this life, is how much you love others and how much you are loved. God loves us all and it is my personal mission to do the same. This life here that God has created for us, is one big test. From my point of view, we do the very best we can do with what we have, share with those who have nothing and give our love back to God unconditionally. Thank you all for being such an important part of my life s journey and I look forward to being a loving part of yours. Thanks Be to God for all of life s blessings. Lisa Diaconate Committee Grief Share St. Paul's will be partnering with Rollin Cronk and the E-Free church to present a series known as Grief Share. Rollin has given this to the community in the past and will help us launch the next session. The diaconate will meet with Rollin on the 24th and final details will be shared after that time. We hope to be able to provide an ongoing program with this shared ministry. Thank you to the congregation for walking this prayerful journey with us. Please feel free to contact me with questions/suggestions. Connie Duling, Chair-Diaconate Visioning/Dreaming Group A Visioning/Dreaming Group is being formed, we are looking for past moderators and those interested in exploring the possibilities of where the Holy Spirit might move St Paul s in the future. Please contact Pastor Mary Beth if you are interested in being part of this group.

Financial Secretary s Report - December and January giving was very good, finished 2018 as largest giving year. (Financials provided upon request) Pastor s Report Two members had requested to be removed from Membership. Visioning retreat went very well, excited about the upcoming ministries of the committees and how God s work will be done. Requests from Committees Diaconate 1. requested that Mike B remain on the committee voted, passed and approved 2. grief counseling researched/investigated and found a program and requested that it would be offered at no charge to any participants. Some costs may come out of Diaconate funds, however, may be determined at a later time, additional funds may be needed. A formal request would be made of the Board if needed in the future Spring Festival/Auction asked for committees help to provide auction items (baskets, gift certificates from local business, special talents) New Business 1. piano needs part and scheduled for maintenance 2. new board meeting agenda form 3. board meetings will be held quarterly requested that committees turn in quarterly reports, due 2 weeks prior to schedule board meeting in order for agenda to be put together and made available so congregation could be made aware of any upcoming items. 4. Carolyn Douglas was presented as our new Administrative Assistant - voted/passed and approved with much enthusiasm. Carolyn has accepted the position with no monetary consideration. The Board approved the line item designated for payment to the position of Administrative Assistant to remain in the budget in the event the position is needed in the future. Thank you to Carolyn for taking on this much needed role. You are truly a blessing to us all. Financial Secretary s Report and Treasurer s Report will be submitted monthly and sent to the Board for Review. Previous Board Meeting Minutes along with financials will be reviewed prior to next scheduled board meeting, by the Board in order to save time during the board meeting which would allow more time for other business items.

We will share our presentation during the 10:30am worship service. Tell your friends and neighbors! Youth Group Activity Schedule Mar 17th 6pm - 8pm Open Mike Night April 21st 8:00am Easter Breakfast Open Mic Night, a Talent Show with a Coffee House Vibe! Sunday, March 17th starting at 6:00pm @ St. Paul s Church Basement. We need all youth to consider performing a talent, help serve light refreshments or being a supportive audience member. Any talent, no matter the kind, is welcome. Please support our St. Paul s Sunday School and Youth Group by inviting your family and friends to come and enjoy our talented youth. Save the Date - April 6, 2019 4:00 P.M. - 6:00 P.M St Paul s Spring Festival and Silent Auction Winter can t last forever, can it? One day the snow will begin to melt and we will want to get out and have some fun. Bring your friends and neighbors, your children and/or parents, or other relatives and come and enjoy some food, fun and games with us. Our mission for this project is Team Tiger with Madrid Elementary School, 25% of our proceeds will be given to Team Tiger. We are planning to serve our famous Labor Day beef burgers. We will also have a few pies, just to tempt your sweet tooth. You must remember your checkbook, however because we have some great items in our Silent Auction. Teaser - one of our members has made an oak table and there are some other fun items you may find that you can t live without. Mark your calendars and join us. The Spring Festival committee has been meeting monthly to hammer out details about the festival and more since we have never done an auction before. Our hope is to inspire our fellow parishioners to showcase their talents and hobbies by donating a sample of such to the auction. The sky is the limit as to what might be on this auction!! We do not want this to be your stuff that did not sell at the garage sale but more so something that reflects what your hobbies (knitting, cooking, gardening, sewing, wood working, lawn work, etc) are. If you would like to join the fun and be a part of this planning group, they will meet Feb. 24th, Mar 10th, Mar 24th and Mar 31st right after worship service. Come join the fun!
