Twenty Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time Contemporary Rite, p. 63 Penitential Rite, p. 65 Entrance Hymn V. Two things I ask of you, deny them not to me before I die: Put falsehood and lying far from me, giving me neither poverty nor riches; R. [Provide me only with the food I need;] Lest, being full, I deny you, saying, Who is the Lord? Or, being in want, I steal, and profane the name of my God. V. Glory be... R. As it was A Reading from the Book of Isaiah. Isaiah 25:6-10 On this mountain the LORD of hosts will provide for all peoples a feast of rich food and choice wines, juicy, rich food and pure, choice wines. On this mountain he will destroy the veil that veils all peoples, the web that is woven over all nations; he will destroy death forever. The Lord GOD will wipe away the tears from every face; the reproach of his people he will remove from the whole earth; for the LORD has spoken. On that day it will be said: "Behold our God, to whom we looked to save us! This is the LORD for whom we looked; let us rejoice and be glad that he has saved us!" For the hand of the LORD will rest on this mountain. This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Psalm Response I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. (Ps. 23) A reading from the letter of St. Paul to the Philippians. Philippians 4:12-14, 19-20 Deacon s Dialogue Rev. Mr. Richard Kasprzak These shocks just keep on coming. I get up this morning, turn on the news, and quietly sit and drink my coffee. Liz calls me in for breakfast, and in the middle of eating, she announces that today is my daughter s birthday. Today of course, is Wednesday October the 11th. I know that time marches on, whether we want it too or not. But when your child crosses over to where she is closer to fifty than forty, it s a big step. It is a time for reflection, a time to review what you ve done over the years, and how you could have made things better and easier for both yourself and your children. But also it is a time to thank the Lord for all He has done for your family, for the health that you all have had, for the trials that you have lived through, and for all the good things that shall befall your family as time moves on. And out in the world, it looks as though our country is going through trials once again, and it looks like all the troubles are reaching a huge point three hurricanes which devastated Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana and Puerto Rico. Thousands of homes destroyed by wind and water. Property destroyed, acres of forest gone, wild life and livestock gone. All of the farms in Puerto Rico have been devastated, all their food is being imported. These were bad enough, and now fires that are sweeping through California, leaving thousands of homes and businesses burned to the ground, with nothing left but chimneys standing. The Lord is really putting us through trials, let s all of us pray for the people affected by these disasters. WE SHALL STEER SAFELY THROUGH EVERY STORM, SO LONG AS OUR HEART IS RIGHT, OUR INTENTION FERVENT, OUR COURAGE STREAD- FAST, AND OUR TRUST FIXED ON GOD. ~ST. FRANCIS DE SALES Brothers and sisters: I know how to live in humble circumstances; I know also how to live with abundance. In every circumstance and in all things I have learned the secret of being well fed and of going hungry, of living in abundance and of being in need. I can do all things in him who strengthens me. Still, it was kind of you to share in my dis- October 15, 2017 2 October 15, 2017 11

He dispatched his servants to summon the invited guests to the feast, but they refused to come. A second time he sent other servants, saying, 'Tell those invited: "Behold, I have prepared my banquet, my calves and fattened cattle are killed, and everything is ready; come to the feast."' Some ignored the invitation and went away, one to his farm, another to his business. The rest laid hold of his servants, mistreated them, and killed them. The king was enraged and sent his troops, destroyed those murderers, and burned their city. Then he said to his servants, 'The feast is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy to come. Go out, therefore, into the main roads and invite to the feast whomever you find.' The servants went out into the streets and gathered all they found, bad and good alike, and the hall was filled with guests. But when the king came in to meet the guests, he saw a man there not dressed in a wedding garment. The king said to him, 'My friend, how is it that you came in here without a wedding garment?' But he was reduced to silence. Then the king said to his attendants, 'Bind his hands and feet, and cast him into the darkness outside, where there will be wailing and grinding of teeth.' Many are invited, but few are chosen." This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise be to You, Jesus Christ. October 15, 2017 3
