Church Life If you are visiting with us for the first time, WELCOME! We are glad it was your choice to worship Christ with us today. We hope this time of praise and the study of God s Word will be an encouragement for you. Please join us for refreshments on the patio at the Royal Palm campus or in the foyer at the Acreage campus. We look forward to meeting you! I love this church because our body is made up of many members who play diverse roles in the sanctification and growth of our community, through service, discipleship and mission. We seek to know God s truth even when it s not exactly what we want to hear. I serve Jesus with you by leading in ministry and service opportunities available to the young adult community. February 12, 2017

Make plans now to attend this conference which will both inspire and challenge us as parents, grandparents, or simply concerned adults who desire to influence children and youth for God. What will the next generation look like? That all depends upon how much we will invest in their future. Church Life When Christ returns, the world will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare (2 Peter 3:10). Does that sound depressing? It would be depressing if this world were our home. But it isn t! It would be depressing if we couldn t use our lives and resource to make a difference for eternity. But we can! C.S. Lewis put it this way: We are halfhearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at sea. We are far too easily pleased. Game Day Fun! Even many Christians have settled for a life of unsatisfying material acquisitions, like making mud pies in a slum. There s something so much better than anything the world can offer eternal treasures and exhilarating joy. From The Treasure Principle February 5, 2017

God s Word - Time With God Today s SOAP from Pastor Jimmy Maltese Scripture: Ruth 1:6-18 Observation: In these verses we have the beginnings of the story of Ruth, a woman who was not one of God s chosen people, but through a series of events found herself loved, accepted, and grafted into God s family. Ruth was a Moabite, an enemy of the Israelites, but had been married to one of God s people. After the death of her husband and father-in-law, Ruth is given an opportunity to leave the people of Israel and return to her country. This opportunity is short-lived as Ruth firmly believes her place is with Naomi, her mother-in- law and with Yahweh, the God of the Israelites. Ruth shows her commitment to Naomi and God in verses 16 and 17, Do not persuade me to leave you or go back and not follow you. For wherever you go, I will go, and wherever you live, I will live: your people will be my people, and your God will by my God. Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May Yahweh punish me and do so severely, if anything but death separates you and me. Application: Loyalty and servitude are two highly sought after traits in almost every relationship that we can think of in our lives. Try and think of a relationship that doesn t have some form of it. If you work in retail you re trusted with merchandise that isn t yours and to take care of customer s that you have no relationship to. In marriage we share some of our deepest secrets and also seek to serve each other like Christ. Loyalty and servitude are two traits that we see every day and how often are they overlooked or dismissed? Ruth s actions in these verses not only shows loyalty and servitude towards Naomi, but a complete commitment to the life God had placed her in. She no longer desired her life of old, but her new life with Naomi. That s something to be praised and this is exactly the example that we as Christians should follow as we continue to walk with Jesus. I m not saying we need to start living with our mother-in-law, but surely we should be seeing an increase in our loyalty and servitude to God in our lives. It s only natural that as God has grafted us into His family, that we respond like Ruth when she became a part of Naomi s family. Prayer: Lord, it is my prayer that you would see our lives as an act of worship toward you. Help us to live a life of loyalty and service to you, the one who saved us from ourselves and delivered us into a life far greater than the one we could have lived on our own. Help us to recognize and affirm loyalty and service to You and your kingdom. Be with us as we continue to seek Your will and do Your work in the communities You have placed us. Amen S.O.A.P. Scripture Observation Application Prayer Grab your Bible, a pen, and a notebook. Get ready to hear from God through His Word! This Week s SOAP Redeemed and Secure M Ruth 3:8-9 T Ruth 3:10-11 W Ruth 3:12-13 TH Ruth 4:13 F Ruth 4:14-16 S Ruth 4:17 Main Passage for February 26 Ruth 3:8-13; 4:13-17 HCSB Memory Verse: Ruth 2:20 Then Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, May he be blessed by the LORD, who has not forsaken his kindness to the living or the dead. Naomi continued, The man is a close relative. He is one of our family redeemers.

Faith Through Trials Scripture 6 She and her daughters-in-law prepared to leave the land of Moab, because she had heard in Moab that the Lord had paid attention to His people s need by providing them food. 7 She left the place where she had been living, accompanied by her two daughters-in-law, and traveled along the road leading back to the land of Judah. 8 She said to them, Each of you go back to your mother s home. May the Lord show faithful love to you as you have shown to the dead and to me. 9 May the Lord enable each of you to find security in the house of your new husband. She kissed them, and they wept loudly. 10 No, they said to her. We will go with you to your people. 11 But Naomi replied, Return home, my daughters. Why do you want to go with me? Am I able to have any more sons who could become your husbands? 12 Return home, my daughters. Go on, for I am too old to have another husband. Even if I thought there was still hope for me to have a husband tonight and to bear sons, 13 would you be willing to wait for them to grow up? Would you restrain yourselves from remarrying? No, my daughters, my life is much too bitter for you to share, because the Lord s hand has turned against me. 14 Again they wept loudly, and Orpah kissed her mother-in-law, but Ruth clung to her. 15 Naomi said, Look, your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her god. Follow your sister-in-law. 16 But Ruth replied: Do not persuade me to leave you or go back and not follow you. For wherever you go, I will go, and wherever you live, I will live; your people will be my people, and your God will be my God. 17 Where you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May Yahweh punish me, and do so severely, if anything but death separates you and me. 18 When Naomi saw that Ruth was determined to go with her, she stopped trying to persuade her. God s Word - Devoted to Him God's Priority By those who come near Me I must be regarded as holy; and before all the people I must be glorified. Leviticus 10:3 The Hebrew term for glory descends from a root word meaning heavy, weighty, or important. God s glory, then, celebrates his significance, his uniqueness, his one-of-a-kindness. As Moses prayed, Who among the gods is like you, O Lord? Who is like you majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders? (Exodus 15:11). When you think God s glory, think preeminence. And when you think preeminence, think priority. For God s glory is God s priority. God s staff meetings, if he had them, would revolve around one question: How can we reveal my glory today? God s to-do list consists of one item: Reveal my glory. Heaven s framed and mounted purpose statement hangs in the angels break room just above the angel food cake. It reads: Declare God s glory. God exists to showcase God. He told Moses: By those who come near Me I must be regarded as holy; and before all the people I must be glorified (Leviticus 10:3) Why do the heavens exist? The heavens exist to declare the glory of God (Psalm 19:1). Why did God choose the Israelites? Through Isaiah he called out to everyone who is called by My name, and whom I have created for My glory (Isaiah 43:7). Why do people struggle? God answers, I have tested you in the furnace of affliction. For My own sake, for My own sake, I will act (Isaiah 48:10 11). Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory (Psalm 50:15). Women s Ministry Join us for this intentional time of prayer and fellowship. Email Rosa to RSVP at duviee@bellsouth.net He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. (Micah 6:8) When our kids were little my husband Brad and I used to hold their hands a lot. Sometimes it was to protect them from danger, like if we were crossing a street. Sometimes it was to calm fears or to help them to feel secure. Sometimes it was because we were on a mission to get through or to a place quickly. Other times it was for the simple pleasure of strolling, skipping, and smiling together. Now that they re teens, my kids aren t so keen on holding hands with mom and dad anymore. Sigh. There is still the occasional watching-a-movie-on-the-couch-at-home handhold, but it s a rarity. And I miss it. I love locking fingers with my people. There s a beauty and intimacy to it. A tangible connection that binds our skin and braids our souls. I love walking with them, hearing their hearts, talking through tight spots, giving advice, laughing and enjoying their company. Similarly, our heavenly Father finds pleasure when you and I walk with Him. When we take His hand and share our time, trials, treasures, and thoughts. The prophet Micah spoke to this. He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. (Micah 6:8) This is a simple, yet profound summary of God s desire for us. A revealing of His longing for you and me to live in constant communion with Him. To lace our fingers with His in good, bad, scary, and sad times. Whether the sun is high in the sky or thunder rumbles low in our hearts. Kids Ministry Today s Sunday School Lesson Today, the children learned how Ruth followed Naomi. They learned that God can use anything - good or bad - to accomplish His good plans for us. Their memory verse today was Ruth 1:16. The verse for next week is Ruth 2:20 "Then Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, May he be blessed by the Lord, who has not forsaken his kindness to the living or the dead. Naomi continued, The man is a close relative. He is one of our family redeemers. Practice this verse with your child throughout the week so that they can earn a Disciple Dollar next Sunday for memorizing the verse. The connection passage today was Ruth Chapter 1-2. The children learned that God was with Naomi and Ruth even when they experienced difficult times. This week we will celebrate Heart Night! Wear red, pink or white! Review questions from todays lesson: Why did Ruth choose to follow Naomi? How did God show love and care for Naomi and Ruth? How did God use the good and bad to accomplish his plan for Naomi and Ruth? What is a present situation that God can use for good? The Disciple Dollar Store will be open EVERY week. Type in this link www.pinterest.com/connect_church on your computer to have access to the Connect Church Pinterest with all the weekly worship folder activities. In the story of Ruth and Naomi, the children were able to see how God was with them during their difficult time. God provided grain for Naomi and Ruth through Boaz's field. To the bottom left is an activity you can do with your child to show how Ruth picked up the grain. Scatter pom pom balls across the yard and have your child go on a hunt for "grain" and collect all they can find. To the bottom right is a craft of a basket of grain that Ruth collected. All you need is construction paper, a paper plate, scissors, glue, and markers to create this fun learning activity. The next derby work day will be held on Saturday, February 25 from 2:00-4:00. We will focus on painting, wheels, axles and weighting the cars. Please contact Wendi with any questions. Preschool Ministry God loves me all the time. Today s Sunday School Lesson Today in class the children learned what the Bible says about when Jesus wakes Lazarus from the dead (John 11:1-57). This week s verse is Jesus said, I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. John 11:25. Please, help your child memorize the verse and review the lesson by asking the following questions. Who did Lazarus live with? How long had Lazarus been dead when Jesus came to Bethany? How does this story help you know that Jesus is God s Son? Do you want to live forever in heaven someday? The children will earn stickers and stamps this week for knowing the verse and the story. Connecting Church and Home Directions Bear Hug 18: Give Him the name Jesus, because He will save His people from their sins. Matthew 1:21 Parents, Here is a fun activity you can do at home with your preschooler which is called Jump up, Lazarus! Using two blankets; one for you and one for your child, each of you should wrap up tightly in the blanket, covering everything but your faces. Rachael Fowler Kids Coordinator rachael@cc.today Cindy Tidd Preschool Coordinator cindy@cc.today While laying on the ground, all wrapped up, take turns with your child shouting, Lazarus, come out! At that time each of you will throw your blanket to the ground and jump up. After this fun activity spend some time talking with your preschooler about how Jesus helps us when we are sad.
