May 2017 Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church focus SHILOH MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH May 2017 thefamily Love Works Knowing God s Vision for Your Family Do you have a Godly vision for your family? Shiloh has many opportunities during the months of May and June to celebrate families. We have Mother s Day, Graduation Sunday, our 65th Church Anniversary in which we will be celebrating Older Adults, Children s Day, and Father s Day. On each of these occasions we will not only celebrate but we will lift God s plan and vision for each family member we celebrate. The family is the primary cell of society and, surprisingly, it is also the primary cell of the Church. In fact, the family participates in the very life of the Church and is a concrete expression of the Church. It is the domestic church. We are focusing on the family, because the strength, the health, and the vitality of any society and of the Church are based on the health of the family. In the family, we come into being, grow in our identity, and give life to others in numerous ways. Through the family, the faith is taught and the daily experience of grace is lived out. Husbands and wives are to be expressions of the love of Christ for the Church (Ephesians 5:32). But today many of our families are deeply fractured. There are many problems and wounds that often go untreated in families, making it difficult to live out the mission and vision of the family even when it is grasped. The great need today is for families to hear the truth about marriage and family and to experience God s healing grace. As the truth about God s design for the family and marriage is encountered, healing begins to take place. Our preaching series for May and June clearly presents the basic truths about marriage and family, their structure and meaning, and their essential role in God s plan of salvation. These teachings will help people grasp that their family is indeed a domestic church that is, the life of Jesus is lived out in their own midst. I believe God s vision for our families is to create an atmosphere where the presence of God resides an atmosphere where families learn the importance of becoming fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ This can be done by connecting with our family spiritually. Spiritual connection comes by talking, praying, worshiping, and serving together. Leading by example and sharing the relationship with Jesus demonstrate the importance of following Him. Family is a priority in God s vision for our lives. During the month of May and June, I will be encouraging you to find ways to make family your priority as well. You should have a God-honoring, Christ-centered, Spirit-filled vision for your family. Let s vision cast and recapture God s vision for family during the months of May and June! You are my family in Christ... Pastor Alonzo B. Patterson
