POPE JOHN PAUL II ASSEMBLY NEWS Volume 5, Issue 5 November 2013 Affiliated Councils: Monsignor James Corbett Warren Memorial Council 5073 St. Gabriel Council 10061 Conseil St. Antoine-Daniel 10340 Faithful Friar's Message: If Faith is dimmed and we walk in darkness, We lose our way in the journey of life. Rather, perseverance in Prayer is an expression of Faith In God who calls us to fight with Him every day, Every moment to overcome evil with good. Pope Francis, Oct. 21, 2013 (VIS) In our own journey of life, beginning with our conception in the womb of our mothers, a mother has a relationship with her child before she even knows she is pregnant and the child has a relationship with the mother before the baby is born. This is not only a physical relationship but a spiritual one as well. Our relationship with God is the same. He knows us and has an eternal relationship with each of us before we even know who God is. Most of us learned of God and Jesus from our parents, the most sacred responsibility of a caring parent (to know Him is to love Him). As we grow from baby to child to an adult, we learn to trust the words of our parents and hope that they guide is in the ways of faith. In our journey as baptized people, we come to know God more closely through our Faith, our Church and our prayer-life The three theological virtues of Faith, Hope and Charity are the pillars of our lives as faithful Knights of Columbus. Let us walk and serve with a renewed faith in God and one another in our council. As an aside, Congratulations to our Councils in Quebec and Ontario for placing 1st and 2 nd in North America in contributions to our Supreme Council. Well Done! Pax Tecum, Fr. Bob Faithful Friar MEMORIAL MASS ST. GABRIEL CHURCH NOVEMBER 21 *** 7:30 PM ~ 1 ~

Faithful Navigator s Message: Full speed ahead! With the start of November here, we have many events and activities to keep us busy. Our Faithful Captain has mentioned many of them, but a few additional are worth mentioning: Confirmations will be held at St. Gabriel s church in the afternoon on November 10 th and 17 th (exact time to be confirmed at our meeting on Thursday, November 7 th ). During our December meeting, we will hold our traditional Christmas Social. There will be no formal business meeting, but a nice meal, some music, and potentially a gift swap (?) for all Sir Knights and their Ladies. Please mark Thursday, December 5 th on your calendar for the social we would love to have as many of our members attend as possible. A confirmation on the gift swap will be communicated separately. We had a very good turnout for the final 50 th anniversary celebrations at St. Gabriel s church on October 13 th. Bishop Ustrzycki, as usual imparted words of wisdom and kept everyone amused with a good story or two. He also spoke both Polish and English during the Mass, which made the event even more special. Being part of the celebration recognizing the 10 th anniversary of the installation of the statue of Blessed Pope John Paul II, located in front of St. Gabriel s was fitting for our Assembly Honour Guard. As we are now in the final month of the Year of Faith declared by his holiness Pope Benedict XVI, please make every effort to reflect on what it means to be Catholic, and indeed, what it means to be a Sir Knight. Vivat Jesus, John Rynn, PGK Faithful Navigator *************************************************************************************** Third Degree Council Events We encourage all members to support our affiliated Councils With Unity and Fraternity, let us join our Councils on their meeting night Msgr. Faithful Captain s Message: There are several events coming up in November. First of course is our exemplification on November 2 nd were we will be bringing 9 new members into our ranks. Please plan to come out to our November 7 th meeting to welcome these new members into our assembly. Again this year we will honour those who gave so much for us and their country by attending the annual Remembrance Day service at Burlington City hall on November 11. As in previous years we will parade to city hall as part of the services. We have been invited by our Burlington councils to attend a Memorial Mass for our deceased brother Knights on November 21 st at St. Gabriel s church. This Mass and reception is sponsored by St. Gabriel s council. Please plan to attend this event to honour our deceased brothers. On your longer range calendar, we are planning our annual Assembly Dinner for next spring. More on that later. As we move into November and the approaching Advent season let us keep our focus on our mission as knights of putting our faith in to action. Let s remember those that went before us providing us the great gifts of Christian values and the things we take for granted about our country. Also let us remember those less fortunate as we carry out our works of Charity. Vivat Jesus Jere Hartnett PGK Faithful Captain Faithful Admiral s Message: November brings us to a time within our Order when we should all reflect on the continued growth and development of our Assembly. With the completion of the recent 4 th Degree exemplification we need to make sure that we continue to be speaking to all 3 rd degree members of the Order. Some things to keep in mind: The 4 th Degree is there to support the Community and take on the role of being the visible arm of the Order Be the helpful hands to all the Councils in the community to insure their success and growth Be that continued strength and support to our clergy in these trying and testing times Food for thought: Just for a moment think of assembling a chair, as you attach the 1 st leg of the stool it has no stability at all. Add the 2 nd leg to the seat and there is a little stability but still can't stand alone. Add the 3 rd leg and know the chair has more stability but the task is not complete. When that 4 th leg is added now that chair becomes complete, stable and functional in all aspects. In your discussions with our Brother 3rd Degree Knights think of how the Order is like a 4 legged chair help our Brothers get to completion and see the full benefit of the Knights of Columbus.
