DAY 1 READ LUKE 2:8-20 Can you imagine being one of the shepherds in this story?! Before Jesus birth, there had been 400 years of silence after the last of the Old Testament prophets told the Israelites of a Messiah that was to come. These shepherds probably knew the prophecies from the Old Testament, but they most likely did not expect the prophecy to be fulfilled that night in their little no-name town. And they surely did not expect to be first ones to hear the news from an angel of the Lord! No wonder they were filled with fear! This passage teaches us that God often works in unexpected ways to accomplish His plans, and He used an angel to share the good news of what He had done. What exactly was the good news of great joy? Reread verse 11 aloud. You don t want to miss it! DAY 2 In the verses you read yesterday, we see the shepherd s response to the good news that the angel told them: First, they went to Bethlehem to see the baby for themselves. (verse 16) Then, they told everyone the news. (verse 17) And finally, they gave glory and praise to God. (verse 20) Spend some time today following the shepherds example by singing along to your favorite Christmas music about the birth of Jesus and giving glory and praise to God! HEAR FROM GOD PRAY TO GOD 6
DAY 3 DAY 4 Ask a trusted adult to tell you about the time that they first heard the Good News of the Gospel. How did they feel when they first heard and understood what God had done for them? How is their life different now than it was before they knew about God s greatest gift? THINK ABOUT YOUR OWN STORY. When did you first hear and understand the news of Jesus being sent into the world to save you from your sins? How did you feel? What is different about your life now? When you receive an awesome gift, the natural response is to share your exciting news with others. This should be our reaction to God s compassion to us through the sacrifice of His one and only Son. We should be so grateful and overjoyed about God s amazing gift that we can t help sharing that news with others. Think about people in your life that need to hear the Good News of Jesus. Who are they? How and when can you tell them? Now, don t stop there. The compassionate thing to do is to put those thoughts into action and do something about it! WHO NEEDS TO HEAR THE GOOD NEWS?
