October has a different feel! October is a Fall month, kind of a home feel, a warmth to it, makes you want to reflect. Well reflect it is. The beauty of Recruitment it is a simple concept that gets tweaked, kicked a round, muddled, and then you come back to the reality of how simple it is. Look at the program of work, sell it! Look at the members, be proud of them, sell what they do, sell their spirit of dedication and volunteerism! I am so proud of the men and families of Cardinal Gibbons. Let me sound off! Bingo at the Veterans Hospital in Elsmere. The men under the leadership of Al Ware help the vets in the hospital and Community Home enjoy a game of bingo. They have not missed an assigned Saturday! Twenty to twenty five Vets get personalized help to enjoy two hours of bingo, just bingo. There is more! Gerry Safranski headed a program to get CLEAN fresh socks to soldiers in duty stations around the world. One thousand dollars raised to help man and women in our Armed Services have clean socks. These are just two of our many programs that Cardinal Gibbons partakes. Interested? Would you sell this to a Third Degree to take the next leap of Faith? Men of Faith, Patriotic men and families reaching out to help others in need. Spread he word, be a Knight, a Fourth Degree. We await our new Sir Knights at Exemplification in November, one month away! One

Assembly for Sale! A room called Bingo! Taking a page out of a great article, it is time to let the world know about BINGO at the VA. The Cardinal Gibbons Assembly has chosen to give direct support to the veterans at the VA hospital in Elsmere. Hospitals are really not a fun place. The staff is highly engaged in the care for the patients but supplying them with entertainment is not really the first line of duty. Much like Duty Stations, you need to bring supplies consistently to the serviceman and women. The Delaware Assemblies are supporting an initiative to bring some old fashioned entertainment to the vets, Bingo. The Assemblies participating have a rotating schedule for their turn to help the Vets engage and enjoy this simple game. Quarterly, on a Saturday afternoon, Al Ware assembles a team from the Councils that comprise the Gibbons Assembly. Once a quarter it will be our turn to help the Vets play bingo. The men and women veterans are a cross spectrum of age and military experience. Some WWll Vets, and as can be expected, Viêt Nam, Korea, Desert Storm, to the modern day conflicts. Ages, the vets do not worry about age! The vets arrive on Saturday afternoon in the Community center room, some walk, some need assistance, but they come. Cardinal Gibbons rotation is the second Saturday of the month at two PM. Our next support day will be Nov. We are there to support the vets, some need assistance, some do not. The game of bingo is typically called, our job is to make sure the vets have a great time and win a few games. Yes, they win quarters per win! The stories of what they can purchase at the hospital PX are hilarious. I CAN BUY A NEWSPAPER or CANDY BAR or something for the spouse! Each participating Assembly donates the prize money for the two hours of game time. Attend a few times and you get to know the vets. Be careful, they have stories to tell! You will notice who is a regular or a new participant. We offer them only assistance with the game, no food, no liquids, only a good time. Once a quarter, second Saturday of the month on a rotation plan, 2 pm, a chance of a lifetime. This is one of the rooms or programs in the Assembly. It is up for Sale to you to buy into. Are you a Candidate or current Sir Knight just looking for that right fit? The Cardinal Gibbons Assembly meets the first Monday of the month at Holy Family Church Hall. We have links thru the Parish website and you can find us on uknight.com. Eight
