First Presbyterian Church of Westminster We are seeking an experienced Senior Pastor who will serve our Bible believing church. The Senior Pastor will provide leadership for our weekly worship services, serve as moderator for session, be a primary counselor for church members in crisis situations, and perform all other duties associated with this role. We praise God for our 145 years of ministry in Westminster. Our 219 members are predominately white (81%), female (61%), and of older generations (62% are 65+). With many Bible studies and prayer groups throughout the week, our members are strong in faith and believe that teaching the gospel is among FPCW's priorities. FPCW provides a wonderful place for a rich variety of people to fellowship. We have two English speaking services every Sunday. Our church also provides multiple programs that range from
teaching the young during Sunday services to working with and supporting many local missions. FPCW has a local ministry at the Huntington Westminster Senior Apartments allowing senior residents to learn about the gospel. We also offer a Student Improvement Program during the school year, allowing students to grow into our junior and senior high school programs. Besides a strong youth program, our church also has a strong mission program led by our Associate Pastor that includes recent trips to Haiti, Mexico, Peru, and Romania. FPCW holds a conservative viewpoint on social issues. Our church is committed to knowing who Christ is so that we may go and teach others who He is and what He has done for all. Senior Pastor Job Description We are seeking a full-time Senior Pastor to lead, shepherd, and bring creative strategies to develop First Presbyterian Church of Westminster. We seek a leader to grow a multi-cultural and multigenerational congregation into a life that exemplifies the life of our Lord Jesus and to bear witness to the Good News. We hope for a genuine, humble, and passionate follower of Jesus Christ in our next senior pastor to lead our congregation into knowing Christ and making him known. Thus, we are seeking a Senior Pastor who finds joy and is called to minister in Westminster- an urban and rapidly changing neighborhood. This pastor passionately loves God and people, and possesses the following areas of gifting or experience: The candidate can deliver strong, dynamic, faithfully Christ-centered, and applicable preaching and teaching of the word. This pastor is experienced in inspiring, leading, training, and equipping the congregation, elders, deacons and church staff in boldly living out their gifts and in sharing Jesus Christ with neighbors. They must have a clear calling from God to grow a church and proclaim the gospel in the urban community such as Westminster, Midway City, the surrounding areas, and beyond. They are gifted or experienced in connecting with a multi-generational congregation and doing outreach to cross-cultural and multi-ethnic areas with familiarity to the Vietnamese and Hispanic cultures/traditions a plus. As head of staff, the Senior Pastor will be responsible to lead the spiritual life of the congregation, including worship, teaching, pastoral care, and church administration.
Education and Experience A master's degree or higher with an emphasis in biblical and/or theological studies from an accredited academic institution Commitment to the ECO Essential Tenets and Confessional Standards 5 or more years as an Associate Pastor, Senior Pastor, or similarly titled position 3 or more years managing staff Ability to relate to diverse cultures a plus Responsibilities 1. To provide leadership in worship that is biblically-based and theologically sound. Plan worship services with the Moderator of Worship and Music, emphasizing God s Word such that our worship will yield unity and spiritual growth of the congregation and encourage them to an active mission locally and in the world. 2. To give dynamic/energetic scriptural centered sermons that provide current practical application. 3. To function as Moderator of Session, providing strong but collaborative leadership to Session Elders as they reach out to members and plan programs which will enable the church to grow and glorify God. 4. To help create and implement a vision for First Presbyterian Church of Westminster to move forward into the future. 5. To supervise and direct the church staff to grow in their God-given potential and fulfill the vision and mission of the church. 6. To be a role model of ethical and Christian living. 7. To communicate with all ages and nationalities within the First Presbyterian Church of Westminster family. 8. To administer the sacraments of baptism and the Lord s Supper. 9. To provide counseling, nurturing, home visitations, and pastoral care to the members and friends of First Presbyterian Church of Westminster, especially in crisis situations. 10. To conduct weddings, funerals and celebrations of life as pastoral services of First Presbyterian Church of Westminster. 11.To volunteer within our denomination and other organizations as church duties permit.
