Trinity Lutheran Church [ELCA] A Creative Christian Community 810 Fairfax Street [540] 869.4019 trinitychurchviginia@gmail.com Stephens City, VA May 27, 2018 Holy Trinity GREETINGS! We hope you find your me at Trinity this morning fulfilling and meaningful, and that you will leave both refreshed and challenged for the week to come. If vising, kindly complete a card in the pew rack and place in the Offering Plate so we can remain in touch. And above all: please worship with us again! WELCOME, ANNOUNCEMENTS PRELUDE Ach Gott und Herr Marcel Dupre (1886-1971) Stand THANKSGIVING FOR BAPTISM Blessed be the holy Trinity, one God, the fountain of living water, the rock who gave us birth, our light and our salvaon. Amen. Joined to Christ in the waters of bapsm, we are clothed with God's mercy and forgiveness. Let us give thanks for the gi( of bapsm. We give you thanks, O God, for in the beginning your Spirit moved over the waters and by your Word you created the world, calling forth life in which you took delight. Through the waters of the flood you delivered Noah and his family. Through the sea you led your people Israel from slavery into freedom. At the river your Son was bapzed by John and anointed with the Holy Spirit. By water and your Word you claim us as daughters and sons, making us heirs of your promise and servants of all. We praise you for the gi( of water that sustains life, and above all we praise you for the gi( of new life in Jesus Christ. Shower us with your Spirit, and renew our lives with your forgiveness, grace, and love. To you be given honor and praise through Jesus Christ our Lord in the unity of the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen. GATHERING SONG ELW 527 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you.

KYRIE PRAYER OF THE DAY Let us pray. Almighty Creator and ever-living God: we worship your glory, eternal Three-in-One, and we praise your power, majesc One-in- Three. Keep us steadfast in this faith, defend us in all adversity, and bring us at last into your presence, where you live in endless joy and love, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. Sit Just 4 Kidz! Children s message Pastor Boldin Following the children s message, as children leave for Children s Church (to return at The Eucharist) we sing: Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so Li-le ones to Him belong, they are weak, but he is strong. Yes, Jesus loves me, yes, Jesus loves me, yes, Jesus loves me, the Bible tells me so. FIRST READING PSALM choir sings verses, congregaon sings refrain See Insert

SECOND READING Stand GOSPEL ACCLAMATION See Insert GOSPEL Sit SERMON Stand HYMN OF THE DAY ELW 735 CREED We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally bego=en of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, bego=en, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salva?on he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pon?us Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,* who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one bap?sm for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrec?on of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. See Insert The Reverend Dr. Bill Boldin

PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION Filled with the Holy Spirit, we join with the church in every place, praying for the world that God so loves. Sit Abba, when we cry to you, your Spirit bears witness with our spirit. Give to your church the confidence of the children of God, so that we boldly share with everyone your world-saving love. Hear us, O God. The whole earth is full of your glory: cies teem, fields flourish, mountains soar, and waters abound. Blot out our sin of spoiling your creaon. Send us to go for you, mending what is torn and ta8ered in your world. Hear us, O God. You so loved the world that you gave your only Son. In these days, when naon condemns naon, save us. Give us strength and fill us with your jusce and peace. Hear us, O God. Your people cry out to you, seeking the goodness and hope of your holiness. Let the wind of your Spirit blow into the lives of all who suffer from injusce, want, or anguish of any kind (especially). Hear us, O God. In our living and in our dying, we belong to you. In loving remembrance, we honor those who live with scars or have died defending our naon. Beat our swords into plowshares and our spears into pruning hooks, and teach us your ways. Hear us, O God. We pray for all who work to protect and defend others, especially those who are vulnerable. We pray for those in law enforcement, fire and rescue, all who serve in the military, emergency room personnel, and humanitarian organizaons. Guard and protect them as they service. Hear us, O God, With affecon we remember the saints now departed and rejoice in their faithful witness especially John Calvin, renewer of the church. Through their example, provoke us to holy lives of loving service in your name. Hear us, O God. By the sure guidance of your Holy Spirit, O God, we li( up our prayers in trust and thanksgiving; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. PEACE The people may greet one another with a sign of Christ s peace, and may say, Peace be with you, or similar words. Sit OFFERING Our gi,s for God s Kingdom are joyfully shared! OFFERING PRAYER Let us pray. Blessed are you, O God, ruler of heaven and earth. Day by day you shower us with blessings. As you have raised us to new life in Christ, give us glad and generous hearts, ready to praise you and to respond to those in need, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen. The Holy Eucharist

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY THANKSGIVING AT THE TABLE Holy God, Breath of life and Fire of love: with a mighty wind you brought creaon into being, and by a pillar of fire you led your people into freedom. We praise you for the gi( of your Son, who poured out your Spirit on his disciples of every race and naon. In the night in which he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus took bread, and gave thanks; broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying: Take and eat; this is my body, given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again, a(er supper, he took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it for all to drink, saying: This cup is the new covenant in my blood, shed for you and for all people for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. Remembering, therefore, his death, resurrecon, and the sending of the holy and life-giving Spirit, we await his coming again to renew the face of the earth. Send now your Holy Spirit upon us and upon this meal: anoint us with your gi(s of faith, hope, and love,

that, with thankful hearts, we may be witnesses to your Son. Through him all glory and honor is yours, Almighty Father, with the Holy Spirit, in your holy Church, both now and forever. Amen LORD S PRAYER Gathered into one by the Holy Spirit, let us pray as Jesus taught us. Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into tempta?on, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen. INVITATION TO COMMUNION Come to the banquet, for all is now ready. Our Invitation Trinity Church is a member congregation of the Virginia Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church In America [ELCA], one of the world s largest Christian denominations a little: church with a BIG Idea! Our congregation was gathered in 1765 by 16 German immigrants who had migrated from Pennsylvania. The building in which we worship was constructed in 1906, and is the third worship space utilized by the congregation. While our history is vital to who we are as a faith community, we focus on the future and on what God is calling us to be and to do in the present. We are a dynamic, growing, joyful part of the family of God - and we invite you to be a part of our journey of faith. If you re interested in uniting your heart and hands with Trinity Church, please contact the Church Office. The Vision, Trinity s youth, will meet after worship this morning. May Community Meal is Wednesday. Sign up list to help provide a portion of the meal is posted in the Parish Hall. Menu is lasagna, garlic bread, salad and dessert. The Virginia Synod Assembly is June 8-10. William and Darla Wolf will be representing Trinity. Cody and Will Wolf will be attending the Youth Assembly. Be sure to ask them all about it when they return! We extend our thanks to Robert Clark for being our worship leader on the 10th. Attendance last Sunday was 60. Offering figures were not available in time for publication.
