Dear Church Family, I pray that each of you reading this are doing well! I can t believe November is here! That means the holiday season is quickly approaching! Often times we quickly get caught up with the business of the holidays and forget to take time and reflect. I would like to take a little time and thank all who helped at the Fall Festival. Thank you Greenfield family for the hay bale maze and providing a hayride for us! Thank you to Josh Maurer for firewood and managing the bonfire all evening! Thank you to those who served food, face painted, helped with Operation Christmas shoebox packing. I would like to also thank everyone who brought chili Tyler Morgan won the contest of best chili! God provided us with amazing weather for this event and it was a wonderful time! I would like to continue with being thankful. Thank you to all who serve in Children s Ministry!!! There are lots of you and ministry to all our children is only possible because of you. It is a blessing to work with each of you and watch as the children are growing in their faith! hand and feet and to share some love. I will be gone until November 17 th, but am so excited about the opportunity God has given me. Thank you to those that have donated items for us to take, given to help financially, and most importantly for your prayers. Please continue to pray for us as we are gone. Soon you will be celebrating Thanksgiving with your families. Take time to be truly thankful for all you have. As a family take time to share ways you are thankful and finding ways to be thankful and show it to others. Christmas will be here before you know it! I am including an advent reading schedule for you in this newsletter. I love using the Jesus Storybook bible for this. You can begin December 1 st and read 1 story each night and on Christmas Eve it will take you to the story on Jesus being born. I wanted to include it this month so you will have it in time to begin on the 1 st of December. Joyfully, Serving Him, Jenny Auld I will be leaving November 3 rd for China to serve in 3 different orphanages. I am excited to be God s Adopt-A-Child Christmas Program Help a child in need at the Christian Activity Center in East St. Louis! This program provides gifts to children that attend the center and otherwise would receive no Christmas gifts. Two options are being provided: Full adoption - purchase gifts totaling $100 Partial adoption - purchase gifts totaling $50 (the CAC will make up the difference). In the past, Small Groups or families joined together to adopt one or more children. A sign up form will be in your Sunday bulletin and after we receive it you will be assigned a child. Thanks so much for your willingness to share God s love! For more info, contact Sherry Martin (618) 409-0787.
Heart for God Student Ministry Thank you church for the appreciation cards and gift cards. Many have shared their love and prayers for the ministry and our family. It is a privilege to serve and face the challenges that this ministry offers. The rewards are more than worth it. Seeing our students grow in Christ and share their faith is reward in itself. However, we really appreciate a church that demonstrates it cares for its servants. May the Lord continue to bless the ministry and His church. Time to brag on our students and leaders: Isaiah Campbell shared with his school class Life on Mission (3 circles gospel presentation), his instructor picked it up and shared it at a conference with over 500 there. Jake Turner used Life on Mission to share the gospel with his class Our students are faithfully serving at the CAC. Helping with homework, small classes, a little basketball and loving on the kids. We packed 100 Christmas Shoe Boxes last Wednesday as part of our church s mission project. Thank you Amanda Vandever. The worship team is adding new members and learning new challenging music. Our drama team will help lead worship on Dec 4 th at another church. Thank you Cheri Courtney for leading. Many of our students share their God stories every Wednesday on how they have engaged others for Jesus. Please pray for Mindy Guethle as she recovers from surgery and prepares for Chemo. She and Lee will be greatly missed in the ministry and we pray for healing and a closer relationship with the Lord through this walk. There many faithful leaders who come every week to lead and love on our students. The list is long and faithful. Pray for them and let them know they are appreciated. If I miss anyone, it is not intentional, I am doing this from memory (it s old and pretty full): Lee and Mindy Guethle Erin Westfall Mark and Michelle Tullis Taff Harris Diana Goleaner Shannon Flowers Phyliss Kaiping Shannon Laxton Rachel Ebner Mike Ramsey Mark Walter Cheri Courtney Amanda Vandever Please drop in any Wednesday night and join us for worship and Bible study. It s the best way you see what we are doing. Here is our schedule as I know it currently: Every Monday (school day starting Sept 12 th ) we meet at McDs at 7am and work through Proverbs together. I will take Columbia students to school afterward. (during the school year when school is in session) Every month 3 rd and 4 th Tuesday of the month we go to the CAC in East St Louis to work with students. This a great opportunity for us to begin to be missionaries right in our own backyard. As with all that we do, never let money get in the way of your student attending. I have a budget and know folks willing to sponsor students. If you are willing to sponsor a student, please let me know or simply put a check in to FBC and in the memo, student ministry. So sign up and come, just let me know your need. Also, if you come as a sponsor for the students, student ministry will pay your way (many come and pay their own, but we are willing to take care of you so you can love on students). If you are so led, feel free to sponsor a student to camp on mission and or just support the ministry. Please contact me and I will let you know the need. Pray for us as we follow what the Lord has prepared for us. I am blessed and privileged to work with our students. Watch our FaceBook group for updates and news of the week. Church, I would like to thank you so much for being such a loving and welcoming body of believers. Keren and I have felt right at home with all of you over the last 2 weeks. We were also overwhelmed by the words of encouragement and gifts many of you gave. Thank you for your thoughtfulness and generosity. We look forward with great excitement to get to know each of you and hear your stories in the coming weeks and months. Please don t be shy to stop by my office and say hi! Soli Deo Gloria Jonathan Cole A big thank-you to all who helped make our Fall Festival a success! You are appreciated. Approximately 200 people attended. Congratulations to Tyler Morgan who won the chili cookoff!
Missions Minute Your Missions Committee has been busy at work over the last few months. Please join us for Missions 2017 on th November 6. This will be our Thanksgiving meal with a focus on our heart for missions. We will have tables set up with all of the current ministries our church supports (Baptist Children s Home, Life Network, Oasis, etc.) along with some information from recent/current mission trips. Join us for an evening of food, fellowship and missions! The following is from Brian Harriss after recently returning from Haiti: We had a really good trip to Haiti this October. We spent the week working on the pavilion, we were able to add Solar and get electricity working. We painted the boys home that had recently been completed. We were able to paint some boxes for the kids that were made by a previous team to keep their stuff under the beds. We did daily Bible studies with them, this gave the team a chance to do crafts, games and really connect with the kids and the house moms. Through the money brought in by the pancake breakfast this summer, we were able to start life books for the kids. These are books for each of the sibling groups and individual children that help them to keep memories of their time at the In His Hands home. We hope they will be adoptable someday and go on to forever families. These books will be their memories. Plans are starting to build a guesthouse. We were able to identify the location and will hopefully start a foundation soon. We are calling the church to join together in prayer for our China team November 3rd-17th. We are asking the church to pray for them every evening at 7:00 p.m. Please consider setting an alarm on your phone each evening to spend a few minutes in prayer for the nannies, the orphans and our team. Also, be on the look out for our World Missions Offering to kick off. We will be collecting through the month of December. Feel free to contact the team with any questions you may have.
