Hot dogs will be served in Kobler Hall between 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Ice Cream Dessert and Mission Trip Photos/Heritage Committee Display on the Methodist Green. Please plan to stay after the service to enjoy food and fellowship. Where s Pastor Hank? Starting in September, Reverend Hank McCaslin, Pastor of Congregational Care, will participate in worship services one Sunday each month. On other Sundays, Pastor Hank will greet persons in the Ministry Center, visit Sunday School classes and care for the needs of the congregation. In this part-time position, this arrangement will permit Pastor Hank to devote more time to pastoral care needs of the congregation. On Sundays, when Pastor Hank is providing worship leadership, you may find Pastor Lee or Dr. Biler in the hallways or classrooms around FUMC. Serving from the Heart Small Group Study Serving from the Heart is an 8-week small group Bible study that helps participants find their spiritual gifts and talents for service. You can sign up online at the church website at www.fumcva.org or you can stop at the sign-up table in the Gathering Space. We share patterns and helpful hints to improve our knitting. Bring your current project and join us. If you haven t used your talents (knit and/or crochet) in some time, and would like to refresh those skills, you are invited to meet with us. If you wish to give a prayer shawl, pick up a request form from Mona Lamb s office. MONDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY We resume September 15 th. FUMC S CHILDREN S MINISTRY Train a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not turn from it. - Proverbs 22:6 Promotion Sunday Children move up to their new Sunday School classes TODAY. Everyone should go straight to their new classes at 9:45. Second graders will come up to the top floor to Rotation Station. Sixth graders will go to the sixth grade Sunday School class. Children s Ministry Fall Newsletter Be sure to pick up a copy of the Children s Ministry Fall Newsletter for information about all of the upcoming activities for children. You can get one from your child s Sunday School teacher, outside the chapel, the children s ministry office, or at the Ministry Fair in Kobler Hall! There is a lot of excitement coming. Kids With Purpose This year we will have our annual Kids With Purpose program in the fall on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 until 7:30. We will begin this Wednesday, September 10. Many adult helpers are needed! Please contact Shannon Bolick if you and/or your child would like to participate. Rotation Station Today our 2 nd 5 th graders will begin studying The Ten Commandments in Rotation Station. This unit runs through October 5. The following session will be focused on Ruth. We still need leaders for storytelling, science, cooking, music, games, second grade, and fourth grade. The unit runs from October 12 November 16 (but not on November 9). Please let Shannon Bolick know if you are willing to lead one of these workshops or shepherd a grade level. Sunday School Registration As we begin another year of Christian education classes, please fill out a registration form for your child. We want to be sure that we have the correct contact and health information for everyone. We are also asking you to list all persons who may pick up your child from class.

INSTRUCTOR AND ASSISTANTS NEEDED Do you have the heart and passion for children and youth who have special educational and developmental needs? We are seeking persons who are able to teach and assist with the Special Needs Sunday School classes. Contact Rev. MOTHERS OF PRESCHOOLERS (MOPS) Fredericksburg MOPS meets on the 1 st and 3rd Friday mornings, October to May. Registration is open, but childcare spots are limited. MOPS encourages, equips, and develops every mother of preschoolers (birth to 5 years) to realize her full potential as a woman, wife, and leader in the name of Jesus Christ. A PLACE OF GRACE--GOD S GREATEST GIFT United Methodist Conference and Retreat Center, Blackstone, September 19-20 All women (18-35) are invited to participate in the annual UMW Young Women s Event. It begins with supper at 7:00 p.m. on Friday (pick up registration materials between 5:00 and 6:45 p.m.) and concludes at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Cost is $75.00. Financial support is available; contact Jean Himmel, our UMW treasurer, at dhimmel1@cox.net. Brochures with registration form are on the UMW bulletin board (right of the Parlor). Registration deadline is September 12. TRIP TO HISTORIC HOUSE This is a reminder to those who have signed up for the trip Saturday, September 13, to visit the historic Edward Dromgoold circuit rider home in Valentines, VA. The van will leave the church parking lot at 8:00 a.m. and return at approximately 5:00 p.m. You may bring your check or cash for $10 the day of the event. WEDNESDAY NIGHT FELLOWSHIP DINNERS Wednesday Night Fellowship Diners return September 10. Join your friends for yummy food and a chance to meet new friends in a warm and relaxed atmosphere. When you decide that you don t want the evening to end, stay and help clean up! Sign up each week BY MONDAY on the bulletin board outside the church work room, in the Gathering Space or contact Lisa Earnesty at earnesty@verizon.net. Standing reservations will be accepted. If your plans change, please cancel your reservation so that we can maintain an accurate count for food shopping and preparation. Dinners are served from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Tickets will be sold for take-out meals. Adults - $6.00; Children - $3.00 for ages 3-12 under 3 is free, Families - $25.00. Menu for September 10: Chicken BBQ Cole Slaw, Baked Beans, Potato Salad, Fruit, and Make-Your-Own Sundae. MERRY MAKERS - SAVE THE DATE September 25 for a trip to Petersburg. We ll visit the Blandford Church and Cemetery and the Siege Museum all for the low price of $10.00. Lunch details will follow.
